I own nothing
"My house on base." Fiona panicked for a second "S… how am I going to get you past the guards wearing that? We are going to have to go shopping for clothes first and sorry James but the Hook will have to go until I get you past the guards. Maybe I will be able to get a prosthetic hand for you."
"My dear you promised no funny business, now you are asking me to remove my hook? Is that not a little suspicious? Hmm and what on earth is wrong with my clothes, yes they may be a little dated but gentleman's fashions can't have changed that much over the years."
"Just get in the car James; I will have to sort everything when we get to the shops. The hook will have to come off in public though or you will get us arrested for possession of an offensive weapon."
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Hook sat in the front seat of Fiona's car marvelling at the comfort that the seat afforded instead of the old carriage seats he was used to in London. He also found that there were loads of strange buttons and knobs that he couldn't wait to touch to find out what they did.
"James you need to put on your seatbelt on."
"Sweetheart if I knew what a seatbelt was I would happily put it on for you." Fiona gave an exasperated sigh.
"Sorry I should have explained that. The black looking thing that is hanging by your left side you need to pull it around your body like this and clip it into this little clasp at the side of your chair. It's to stop you from going flying through the window if we happen to have an accident. "
"Ahh a safety device, this car must go at some speed for such a thing to be needed? Roughly how fast will we be travelling?"
"Erm, around 60 miles per hour."
"That's amazing you can travel a distance of 60 miles in an hour in this contraption. This must be one of the fastest vehicles on the planet. Are you sure you are qualified to be in charge of such a vehicle, you are but a woman?"
Fiona growled at the comment about women.
"IF you don't feel comfortable in my car with me driving then feel free to get out and walk."
"Don't be like that precious; things have obviously changed a great deal since I was last in your world. You are obviously very talented if you can control such a vehicle at the speeds you are suggesting that it can travel."
"Thank you for the compliment James but I think you will be in for a big shock as most people in this country own a car or two. 60mph is the normal speed that people travel on main roads which are out of cities and villages. Now please will you just sit back and let me drive you to somewhere we can get you clothes."
Hook sat back as Fiona started the car but kept his eyes on everything that she was doing as it was fascinating that something could travel as fast as she said it could go without the need for lots of horses. After around 15 minutes of watching her control the car Hook turned his gaze to the other controls in the car. There was one in particular which he was longing to touch, the knob had the words on and off on either side of it and also volume written across its middle. Being inquisitive by nature Hook reach out and turned to knob towards the word on. The room was suddenly filled with noise music was blaring through the speakers causing both Hook and Fiona to jump.
"JAMES can you please just keep your hands to yourself you're going to cause me to have an accident?" Fiona switched the radio off again and glared at Hook for a brief moment before quickly turning her eyes back to the road ahead.
"Precious I'm afraid all these buttons in front of me are very tempting and you haven't had the grace to explain what any of them are. How do you expect me not be in the least bit curious?"
"If I explain some of the controls to you will you stop pressing things?"
"I give you my word sweetheart."
"Fine, you just switched on the radio which is a device for listening to music, receiving news updates and travel updates etc. The knob underneath it on the far left is for controlling airflow in the car by use of fans. The knob immediately to the right of it controls the temperature in the car. To the right of that controls which area the fan blows its heat or coolness too. The button marked AC is for air conditioning and aids the fan in cooling you down if it's a particularly hot day. Now sit back and keep your hands to yourself as I need to concentrate on driving if you want us to get to our destination in one piece."
"Can we turn the radio back on?"
"No."
"What about the fan?"
"No."
"What about..." Fiona growled again with frustration "HOOK I'm warning you."
"About what my dear?" Hook smirked at Fiona knowing he was getting on her nerves.
"SHUT UP!"
"Do you know you are even more beautiful when you are angry at me?"
"ARGHH"
"Oh come on sweetheart, relax"
"James we have a 10 minute journey ahead of us until we reach the nearest town, please just look out of the window or something so that you are not distracting me and we will get there soon."
Hook decided to take Fiona's advice and started paying attention to all the different wonders out of the window. The road they were travelling on was a lot smoother than any of the roads he was used to. The houses didn't look that much different but the equipment that was being used on the farms they went past certainly had much more complex than anything from his time. As they were nearing the town Hook saw many different changes. As Fiona had said there were many cars on the road and they came in all different colours shapes and sizes. There were many people on the streets and their state of undress certainly had Hook raising an eyebrow. Women were wearing trousers, skirts and shorts as it was a warm day in summer. The men were wearing t-shirts and shorts or trousers.
"You weren't joking when you said styles have changed my dear. Some of the clothing these women are wearing is scandalous, soo much leg on show. Even ladies of the night in my day would wear more when out and about."
Fiona smiled at this. "You should the see what some women wear on nights out these days."
"Do you expect me to wear what the men I am seeing are wearing?"
"I think maybe we can get away with some trousers and t-shirts. It will certainly be more comfortable that what you are wearing at the moment. You must be extremely warm."
"I'm sure I will look good in whatever you put me in and if not I will be happy for you to get me out of it."
Fiona just ignored his final comment and pulled into a parking space outside the local supermarket.
