Revolution
Chapter 11; Extra Chapter: Laid to Rest

Soft blue tides washed against the pale white beaches. Trees rustled in the gentle summer breeze. Sunlight lit the cloudless blue sky with the autumn glow. Colours of orange, red, brown and green fell around the tree trunks and clung to branches. A sigh escaped the lips of the blonde haired mage, admiring the beautiful colours of the island.

"Lucy, what are we doing here?" Natsu grumbled tiredly behind her. "You're not even supposed to be out of bed yet and here we are." He shrugged, showing no respect for the natural beauty around him.

"I didn't force you to come with me, Natsu." Lucy growled back, keeping her nose high as she gave him an irritated glare out of the corner of her eyes. The wind brushed her blonde hair back over shoulders as they walked under the rustle green canopy. Birds whistled among the tree tops with the flutter of their wings.

"I know, but I couldn't just leave you alone! Look what happened last time!" Natsu exclaimed. A fist caught him on the back of his head, slamming his face into the ground. An injured whimper came from his mud filled mouth as he slumped against the floor.

"You didn't leave me alone last time, you fainted from poison. And don't speak of my sacrifice so lightly!" Lucy warned, continuing her unhesitant step across the ground.

A few moments later, she became aware of the footsteps following her from behind. For a moment, it felt as if Natsu had learned to be quiet, but that moment went away too fast. The dragon slayer opened his big mouth to speak again.

"Hey, how did you know about Juvia and the guild?" Natsu asked with curiosity alight in his eyes like it always seemed to be.

"You mean that the government was a double agent? Or the fact that they were all arrested by the government for protection? Or how I knew that Juvia was going to get the guild when I dropped her off the edge of the tower?" Lucy asked, raising her blonde eyebrow.

"Umm...yeah, that one." Natsu replied, unsure what his question had evolved into.

"A woman's intuition." Lucy shrugged. Natsu wasn't sure how to respond or if he should respond at all. In the end, he fell silence for long while, trying to find a different trail of conversation to follow. Eventually, he found something off his interest, disturbing Lucy's peaceful admiration of nature once again.

"Hey Luce, show me your wings!" Natsu demanded like an excited puppy bouncing along besides her. A suggestion in her mind thought it would be best to ignore him, but Lucy knew him better than that. If she remained silent, he would just press her until she answered.

"I don't have any more wings Natsu." Lucy replied, looking down at the folded piece of silk in her hands.

"Why?" Natsu bluntly replied as his bouncing turning into an awkward side walk as he tried to face her at the same time as moving.

"Because the angel allowed me to borrow her wings, it was only temporary." Lucy explained.

"But her wings were red weren't they?" The slayer's curiosity pushed.

"Not originally. Like all the rest of the Angels, her wings were white." Lucy answered. "She gave them up for her child's life." Dark onyx eyes watched Lucy's soft brown orbs looking empathetically down at the piece of silk in her hands. There was a need to satisfy the part of his mind that burned with curiosity, but he decided it could wait. Instead he fell silently into pace by her side as they closed in on the big tenrou tree, stood as tall and mighty as ever.

They both ducked and weaved in and out of the thick roots rising up out of the ground, finding the entrance to the catacomb hidden underneath its bark. They slipped through the green plant life that had become over grown since the last time anyone had visited. Thinking about it, the last person who ever came was the Angel's daughter hundreds of years ago. Natsu pulled apart the thorned bushes guarding the entrance, careful not to burn the plant with his hot hands. Lucy paused as she passed through the shrubbery, looking up at the beautiful white roses weaved in and around the tree trunks. Their snow-colour buds reached up through the darkness to the small circles of sunlight spilling through the root canopy.

"Where is this place?" Natsu grumbled, snagging the edge of his vest on a thorn. He tugged it free, following after Lucy. The dragon slayer was surprised to hear his voice echo as they entered a vast space. The wide, old bark stood towering about them, hiding the secret space beneath itself.

"It's a grave, Natsu." Lucy replied softly with a smile. The dragon slayer was slightly caught off guard by her words, looking down at the empty space, scattered with autumn leaves. Lucy brushed aside the leaves, revealing the imprint of what looked like...wings. Pale legs crouched down above the fossil, holding out the piece of silk in her hands. Gentle fingers unfolded the silk corner by corner until it revealed the little ruby cross. Sunlight shimmered across the gem in her hands, like a welcoming greeting. Where the sunlight shone in a spotlight around the fossil, Lucy carefully laid the jewel in the centre.

As she took several steps back, she saw the red gem begin to glow. Black and brown eyes both watched it in confusion as the red jewel burned brighter and brighter. "What's it doing?" Natsu asked, nudging Lucy, but the blonde just shook her head in puzzlement.

Suddenly, the red jewel shattered. Lucy's breath caught in her throat as she took a short step forwards in surprise. The shattered pieces didn't fall to the ground, instead, they hovered in the air in a circles. A small rumble in the ground caught their ears as the dirt beneath it suddenly broke apart. The wings erected from the ground in the stone base they were set into. The wings split in half, standing in the ground side by side. The mages watched as the red crystals moved over the stone. Their sharp edges broke into the hard material, cutting out shapes in line with each other.

When the crystals were finally finished, they disintegrated into a red glowing dust, falling over the rocks. Rock exploded with white light in front of them, spreading a warm burst of heat around them.

Lucy's arm shielded her eyes as the glow began to fade away. As it did, she slowly brought it down, meeting the sight before her with a gasp. Two stone wings had turned into beautiful diamond headstones. Together, they read: 'Love and Freedom – The final resting place of the Last Angel, and her daughter, Lucinda' Small tears rolled down the brown eyed girls cheeks. It seemed as though the Angel had given a name to her young demi-angel child. The sunlight shone upon their sparkling graves casting a rainbow on the walls of the catacomb as they were finally laid to rest.

At last, the revolution was over.
