The next few weeks were the same. It seemed like every time she went to say something, Sirius would be there, ready to shoot her down. And every time, she would look to Remus only to find that he would simply smile or wink at her, and carry on with whatever he was doing at the time. It was slowly but surely driving Hermione mad. She had half the mind to confront Sirius about it, but then she would remember her conversation with Remus, and that Sirius could not know that it ever took place, at least not for now.
Hermione was slowly reaching the end of her thread. Nearing the point where she no longer cared what Sirius, felt for her. If this was the way that he showed it then she wanted no part in it. This, however, was soon to change.
It happened during Defence against the Dark Arts, when Professor Hecate Parkes had set up a duelling practices session, between Gryffindor and Slytherin. The atmosphere in the clad had been feisty, but nothing out of control. Until the unthinkable and yet unavoidable happened.
"Mr Lucius Malfoy and Miss Solarius Malfoy." Professor Parkes called out. It was certainly a pairing that caused the majority of the class to begin buzzing with Gossip, as the volatile relationships within he Black family as well as the Malfoy family were well known of, throughout the school. Amongst the Mauraders, Lily and Hermione, it was a different story. They had all fallen deathly quiet. Half wondering what they would do, and half worried for their friend's welfare. None more so than Remus, who had taken a step forward, ready to pounce at any moment. If it meant keeping Sol safe. Sol must have seen, or sensed, this as she quickly reached out a hand behind her in a calming way. The last thing she needed to worry about when up against her brother, was an over protective boyfriend. Lucius of course did not miss the gesture.
"Trying to protect your boyfriend are you?" Lucius sneered, as he began to stalk her, much like a lion stalks his prey. In the distance, she could hear a low growl come from Remus, and James calling to him softly to get him to calm down.
"From you dear brother?" she hissed with menace, "Oh, it is not worth the time in the day, to protect anyone from you." The students around her gasped, and a few giggled at the insult, but for Lucius, it appeared that this was an insult that he was not prepared to let go unpunished.
"Well dear sister, perhaps it is you that needs protecting from me!" Remus sensed that something was going to happen before it did, and so by the time that Lucius began to articulate the curse, he had already leapt forward before the Mauraders had a chance to grab him. "SECTUMSEMPRA!"
Sol had little time to prepare for what was to come next. She had never heard the curse before, so she had little knowledge of what to expect, but what did happen, was certainly the last thing she ever expected.
One minute she was standing, wand at the ready, prepared to face anything that came at her, the next she was laying facing the ceiling, senses dulled and with a dead weight lying on top of her. Somewhere in the distance she heard a girl scream and Hermione's voice cry out a disarming spell. The only thing is that she was no longer standing behind her, but rather she was now towering over her, facing to where Lucius had been moments before.
"Mr. Malfoy! 100 points from Slytherin, now follow me, you have a date with the headmaster for this!" Professor Parkes exclaimed as she picked up a dazed Lucius, and escorted him out of her class. "Mr. Potter, Mr. Black, please see to Mr. Lupin and Miss. Malfoy. The rest of you, if I hear of a single spell being cast you will be expelled faster than you can say expeliamus!" she said as she left the class room.
Sol could feel moisture seeping through her robes and heard a groan as the others came to her side, and looking down she was shocked to see Remus lying on top of her, eyes screwed tight in pain. "Remus!" she called as she placed a hand on his shoulder, in hopes of getting his attention, but nothing. "REMUS!" she called a bit more forceful, moving to shake him, before the Hermione's voice rang through telling her to stop.
"He was hit by the slicing curse; do try to shake him, until we know the damage." Hermione said as she came and knelt next to him, and together with the boys gently and carefully rolled over, a slightly groaning, Remus. The sight of her boyfriend lying here with his chest ripped open, made Sol hold her breath and let out a little sob.
"Yeah Malfoy! Listen to the mudblood!" Came a voice from the crowd, and it was seconds later that the group saw Severus step from the crowd.
"Watch it Snivellus. You would not want to lose your trousers here for everyone to see would you Snivillus." Sirius said as he stood, and came to stand beside. A move that truly shocked her. "Lily, James, Sol, get Mooney to the hospital wing. I will take care of Snivellis." He said with a sneer, and watched as the trio gently took hold of Remus and quickly made their way to the hospital wing.
"Why you, you will regrett the day that you ever crossed me mutt. You and your mudblood whore!" Severus roared with fire in his eyes. "SECTUMSEMPRA!" Sirius having seen the curse once already was ready for it, taking a deep breath, he grabbed hold of Hermione and muttered a shield spell around them.
"Bad move, worm," Sirius smirked as he raised his wand, with his other arm still around Hermione's waist. "RICTUSEMPRA!" he watched with glee as the curse hit him straight on, Severus hit the floor giggling like a little school girl, and the other students around them burst into laughing, but before Sirius could do anything more a stern voice came from the doorway.
"SIRIUS BLACK!" there standing in the doorway was Professor Parkes.
A/N: Sorry to all Severus fans, but it had to be done.
I do not know who the DADA professor was during the Maurader erra so I created Hecate Parkes.
I hope you liked it. Please review. The more you review the more I write ;).
