I am so so so so so sorry for being such an awful updater! Especially after leaving you on a cliffhanger like that! I am a full time swimmer and a full time student so as you can imagine I don't have much time for anything else. But here is chapter 14!
*Annabeth's PoV*
I awoke to the gentle breeze while laying in a field of tall grass. The sky was clean and the air felt like a perfect 70 degrees. Just like the perfect weather in California. There wasn't a cloud in sight and the sky was a rich, deep blue. Of course everything felt to perfect so the first thing I thought was "Where are the monsters" and the second being "Where in Hades am I".
I was getting sleepier and sleepier just laying there in the grass, so I knew I had to get up. Once I was able to see above all the tall grasses, I wished I had just stayed down and gone to sleep. What was more unnerving then being completely alone was the fact that there was absolutely nothing around. I don't mean nothing around as in no houses I mean this-is-the-flattest-land-I-have-ever-seen-and-there-are-no-trees-or-animals-or-ANYTHING-around. Also, I was in a sleeveless, spaghetti strap, ankle length, pure white dress. And if you know me at all, I DON'T DO DRESSES. The first thing the wood nyphs teach us woodland survival is get good bearing of your surrounds. So naturally, I spun in a circle to see everything around me.
"Grass, grass, oh lovely more grass." Suddenly the earth started shaking and I lost my footing, and yes, fell on my face. To my right the grass started glowing (yes glowing) and then suddenly sunk back into the ground leaving a clear-cut path. What the first thing to do when something seems to easy? Run the other way of course. So I turned to my left to cut through the grass and find my own way, but as soon a I touched the grass blade it felt like a razors edge. I flinched as blood started running down my arm.
"Ok, lets try creepy trail number 1." At this point I figured I had been drugged and left in a field, and I wished I had my dagger. Or Percy. I walked down the trail for no more then 10 minutes when I started to feel sweat role down my neck. That's weird. The temperature must have risen at least ten degrees. Quickly doing the calculations in my head, I came to the conclusion that that isn't possible. Where was I? As I looked down the path trying to find a clue about where I was headed, all I could see was a bright light.
About 30 minutes and 15 degrees later, I was completely drenched in sweat and my dress clung to my waist. On the plus side, I stood in a clearing with a bright light (yes very cliché. Exactly what I was thinking). I really shouldn't say bright light because really it looked like a glass portal with light glowing around the edges. Through the portal I could see a crystal clear lake surrounded by beautiful mansions with perfectly cut green lawns. In that moment I knew exactly what it was.
"The Isles of the Blessed," I said, standing in awe. It was gorgeous. Even through the glass I could tell the architecture of each building was meant to last thousands of years.
"Yes, Annabeth. The Isles of the Blessed. Home of the bravest heroes that have ever lived and died. Where you can be," Suddenly, my mother was standing next to me. She looked the same as she always does, tall, blonde, strong, and beautiful in her golden gown.
"Why am I here mom? Where is everyone? Am I dead?" All these questions blurted out of my mouth as fast as they came into my head.
"No, not yet sweetheart. I am here to give you a choice, but you must make it quick. The Fates will not linger forever, for their knife is almost about to cut your string of life." Come again?
"What choice?" The air was becoming unbelievable hot. I felt like I was walking through Hades again. I felt like I was being fried alive.
"Choice to stay or go. Stay with the mortals or go live in peace forever in the afterlife," She was still staring into the portal, with an almost peaceful face. Like she wasn't asking me to choice life or death, "Poison runs through your veins Annabeth, I am doing my best to help, but you are almost beyond help. Hurry, and this door may not be open forever. The next time you come here , the Isle of the Blessed may not be an option." Anyone would think this would be the easiest choice of their life. Live forever in peace or go back to Earth and fight monsters everyday. I could almost taste the BBQ roasting over the pits and feel the crystal clear lake. My mind was beginning to fog over and my vision was going dark.
Is this what it feels like to die?
