*Annabeth's PoV*
Most people wonder what it would be like to die. Would it be painful? What would you see? People say your entire life flashes in front of your eyes. Some people say that you see the faces of the one's you love. However, if you want to know, I am not the girl to tell you. There was no way I was dying tonight. I won't lie. I was very tempted to step into the Isles of the Blessed and live out my afterlife next to the lake eating BBQ and relaxing, not having to worry about monsters that want to eat me for lunch. But I would never have been able to rest in peace knowing what I've left behind. The moment I looked through the portal and saw the lake the first thing that came to mind was Percy. Could I leave him behind? No way. We had been though thick and thin and there was no way I was taking the easy way out. I was way too much of a fighter for that.
I fought against the drowsiness that was threatening to take over and stood before my mother.
"Mother, I would like to go home now," Suddenly the biggest smile came across her face. Her grey eyes turned from a storm into more of a cloudy day.
"Of course Annabeth," She waved her hand in front of the portal and the scene changed. Instead of the Isle of the Blessed, I saw the green strawberry fields and the lake that now held very fond memories. I was about to step though the portal when I felt a strong hand on my arm. "I don't get to say this very much due to the rules, but I am very proud of you Annabeth. You have no idea just how proud I am." Now I know this next part probably wasn't allowed and punishable by being zapped into oblivion by Zeus or turned into a dolphin by Mr. D. but I ran over and gave my mom the biggest hug I could.
"Love you too mom." And with that I walked right through the portal, back home. Back to Percy.
*Percy PoV*
The heat was becoming unbearable. With Athena going super nova four feet away from me, I was wondering how she was possible helping Annabeth. At all. Suddenly, all the light and heat died down and I turned to look at Athena.
"That hurts Seaweed Brain," A voice croaked from my right. My head whipped around as I stared down at my girl. Utterly confused on what she was talking about, I noticed I was squeezing her hand with all my strength (and not to brag or anything but it was a lot). I quickly let go and my hands went to either side of her face and I looked into her eyes to make sure she was ok.
"Annabeth-" I couldn't finish my sentence because, well, I just couldn't.
"You look awful," She chucked which ended up coming out like a raspy noise. Her hair was plastered to her skin from the sweat, and she still had dirt all over her face from the rock climb that seemed like years ago. At that moment though, she never looked more beautiful
"Thanks Wise Girl. I've only been sitting at your bedside for the past few days trying to be a good boyfriend," I felt a smirk slide across my face, but then the seriousness of the situation came over me. "How do you feel?"
"Like death warmed up. Very, very warmed up. You will not believe what I saw. But first. WHAT THE HADES HAPPENED." Annabeth started to sit up, but I pushed her back down.
"Just rest up girl. I'll tell you everything later."
"I'm fine Perce. I need to get up. I hate the infirmary."
"Annabeth," I said putting my hands on my hips like a mother scolding her child.
"Percy," She said right back mimicking my actions. Well yup. She was almost back to normal already. At that moment the doors opened and Chiron walked in.
"Thank you Lady Athena," he said, nodding his head toward the towing goddess that I had completely forgotten was still standing there.
"Anything for my daughter," And with that she walked out. No anything? No goodbye? I looked at Annabeth expecting to see a look of disappointment but instead she just looked content. Um ok?
"Chiron can I please go. I feel fine!" She said trying to get out of her bed. But once she tried to stand, she almost fell over.
"Oh no you don't. You are way to weak to stand," I said looping one arm under her legs and one around her back. She looked very angry, but didn't try to argue as I placed her back on the bed
"The poison has just barely left your system leaving you weak. You need to stay here so you can rest and also so we can check up on you." Chiron said glancing at an Apollo kid.
"Wouldn't I rest up better in my own bed?"
"But I won't have the medics having to make an extra trip down to your cabin. It is too much. Now no. Rest, relax, and recoup. You will be up in no time.
"Ugh. Fine," Annabeth glared at me like this was all my fault.
"Oh come on! Why are you looking at me like that!" I was completely confused. I had saved her life and now she was giving me a death glare?
"Because. If you weren't so freaking attractive then Lacey wouldn't have poisoned me," Annabeth said while folding her arms.
"Uh thanks? Wait how did you know she was behind this?" Annabeth looked at me again, but this time she looked hurt.
"Oh come on. Um hello daughter of Athena here. It really wasn't rocket science. The little skank likes you, but I'm in the picture so what is the best way to get rid of me then using my worst fears. Quite brilliant actually for an Aphrodite kid," Annabeth actually looked impressed. What was wrong with her?
"You scare me sometimes," I say staring at her. Annabeth's face lit up at my remark.
"Good. I like to keep you on your toes," She smirked, and consequently my knees became unsteady. I couldn't hold my self back anymore. As I walked over to her bedside and bent over I gave her a ghost of a kiss. I knew she hated that. When I pulled back she gave me a look of confusion. So I kissed her again lightly, and pulled back.
"Ugh you are the worst!" She collapsed onto her pillow, and glared at me while I laughed. Finally, I decided to put her out of her misery. And mine for that matter. Dang I missed her.
