DISCLAIMER: Still own none of this although I'm getting close to plotting a major theft so we can have a DS9 film and a new Sherlock season MORE THAN ONCE EVERY TWO FUCKING YEARS OH MY GOD SERIOUSLY
Short-ish chapter
Beth laughed as she rolled up the window and switched off the radio.
'Nicely done,' laughed Irene as she and The Doctor spun back to face the front, 'I didn't know you knew Czech. And an impressive variety of curses too.'
'Thanks,' replied Beth, 'It's been a while since I've been on a job where I can use it. I don't think they'll be following us anymore! Do you want to drive now?' she asked, peering in the mirror at her passengers.
Adler glanced at Sherlock and titled her head, deciding. 'No; you keep driving for a bit. I'm sure Sherlock will be fine on the floor.' Beth nodded in the mirror and carried on driving. After that they drove in relative silence for a while, broken only by the occasional mumble from Sherlock as the drug slowly drained out of his system. The Doctor stared out the window, leaning his head against the glass, letting his mind wander. He didn't notice himself drift off but was woken as the cab slowed and his head slipped off the glass. He blinked a couple of times and yawned, looking around. Sherlock was now sitting up, his back against the front seats, his legs stretched across, taking up most of the floor space. He turned his eyes from the window to look at the Doctor.
'Morning' he said.
'Morning to you' replied the Doctor. 'How do you feel?' Sherlock thought for a moment, moving his feet from side to side.
'Lightheaded,' he decided eventually, leaning his head back. Just then the cab pulled to a stop in front of what looked like a closed newsagents.
'Here we are,' said Beth, pulling on the handbrake, 'Home sweet home.' Adler slid open the door and jumped out followed by the Doctor and an unsteady Sherlock. Beth parked the cab around a corner to the left before taking her laptop out of the boot and joining them on the pavement. The Doctor looked up at the building; the broken Post Office sign leaning against the wall, the painted out windows, the faded paint. It was certainly inconspicuous. The only thing that looked new about it was the security pad on the door that Beth punched four numbers into before leading them into the building. The inside looked pretty much as you would expect; it was empty expect for the shelves still standing against the two walls with a counter at the back leading to another door. The group walked through the door at the back and up a flight of stairs with a locked door at the top.
'Beth' said Adler, moving to the side so she could reach the door. Beth walked up and pulled out a key, unlocking the door and stepping inside, flicking on a light. Inside was a medium sized room with two doors on one side, presumably to a bedroom and bathroom. In the centre of the room were two sheet-covered sofas with a table and a mis-matched set of chairs by the side. However what caught the attention of Sherlock and the Doctor was the right-hand side of the room. The wall was almost entirely covered with a map of London, covered in newspaper articles and photos, much like Sherlock did when he was on a case. However they could tell it hadn't been used in a while as most of the paper had fallen off and was lying, covered in dust, on the floor below. In the corner was a desk with a computer sitting on it and three different landlines neatly lined up next to it. Beth walked over to it and sat her laptop down out of habit.
'My first apartment' she announced to the group. 'The lady who owned the shop let me rent it when I worked there. Of course she kicked me out once she found out my… other occupation.' The last statement came with a pointed stare at Adler. Beth walked past her and pulled the tattered curtains open on the left hand side, coughing at the cloud of dust that came from them.
'Well that evidently didn't stop you coming' pointed out Adler. 'Well,' she continued, 'you two might as well try and make this place habitable while Beth and I get to work.' She turned back to Beth and smiled. 'Let's find your doctor.'
