Sheldon awoke to the giggles and whispers of his children.
"No Marie, pink is for girls," he heard Tyler speak.
"Ty, pink is just axio...matically for girls," he heard from the young girl.
As he opened his eyes he was met with two sets of eyes staring back at him, both surprised and excitement staring back at him.
They squealed in delight as he sat up on the couch.
"G'morning, daddy," Marie was first to greet.
"Good morning, Marie," he replied as Tyler spoke.
"Hi daddy," his son said.
"Hello Tyler," he paused, "Where's Amy?"
They stared back at him.
"Who's Amy?" Tyler spoke before Marie nudged him.
"Amy is mommy's real name," she said before bursting into a fit of giggles.
Tyler looked stunned, "Amy?" he repeated.
Marie nodded amidst her amusement as Sheldon realised they weren't about to answer him any time soon.
"Good morning, Sheldon," he heard from behind him.
He turned and saw Amy standing by the door.
"Good morning Amy," he replied, causing both Marie and Tyler to burst into a fresh set of giggles.
"What's so funny?" Amy asked as she approached them and sat next to Sheldon.
The twins just laughed loudly leaning against the coffee table with their backs letting their heads roll back in laughter.
"It appears they find amusing that your name is Amy," Sheldon responded.
Amy smiled, "Well that's great," she said looking at Marie who was beginning to breath again.
"Sarcasm?" he asked.
Marie was now leaning on her knees so Amy scooped her up into her lap.
"Yes, Sheldon," she replied, smiling back at him.
"Oh," he nodded.
Tyler was now leaning against Sheldon before reaching up to him with his tiny arms.
Amy held her breath, Sheldon looked down at Tyler and found him looking up at him expectantly.
"Would you like me to pick you up?" Sheldon queried.
Tyler just nodded sheepishly and Sheldon did so, placing him on his lap just like Amy had.
Amy smiled and realised she needed to talk about something with him.
"How about I get breakfast started?" she asked looking down at the twins.
"Yay!" they shouted in unison, quickly scampering off their parents and running to their bedroom.
"Sheldon, I need to talk to you about something," she began as she stood up and motioned for him to follow her.
"Amy, you will have to excuse me but it's 8:05 and I'm late for my morning ablutions," he said, looking at his watch.
She nodded, "Of course, you know where the bathroom is, right?"
He nodded before turning and leaving the living room.
Amy turned to the kitchen, it was open plan, kind of like her old apartment.
As she began to make french toast, she thought about what she was about to say to Sheldon. What would the repercussions be for her?
As she began taking out plates Sheldon walked out.
"May I help you with anything?" he asked.
Amy shook her head, "It's fine, the toast isn't ready yet,"
She left the pan in low heat and turned to look at him.
"Sheldon, as I may have mentioned to you, I no longer speak with my mother," she paused as Sheldon nodded slightly, " So the twins don't have any extended family...apart from yours," she hoped Sheldon knew where she was going with this.
"I haven't told my mom about them,"he said almost in realisation, "I suppose she and Missy would want to meet them very much, oh not to mention Mee-Maw," he said, his face lighting up.
Amy smiled, she wanted the twins to meet their family. She was kind of scared though. Would they be angry at her for not telling them from the beginning? And what if they were just too hurt to even agree to meet them?
She shook the thoughts and focused back on Sheldon.
"Actually Amy," he began nervously, "I have a trip planned for Friday, to visit Texas," he said, avoiding her eyes, "Maybe you and the twins could accompany me?"
Amy smiled, "We would love to Sheldon,"
Sheldon looked up at her and grinned.
It was moments like that that destroyed and built Amy's world. They stared deeply into their eyes and they could almost feel the heat emanating from the other person even though they were about a feet away from each other.
Sheldon always liked Amy's smile, but there was something about right now that was making his heart beat uncontrollably. Amy found her palms getting sweaty and when she realised how long they had been staring at each other, she began to blink uncontrollably and quickly turned back to the kitchen.
Breakfast was uncomfortable, Sheldon and Amy seemed to be avoiding all eye-contact but of course the twins were oblivious to it.
Once everyone had finished, Sheldon offered to was the dishes. Amy nodded and helped to clear the table.
As Sheldon was drying his hands he turned to find Amy leaning to the kitchen island, moving around some fruit.
"Amy," he asked.
She turned to look at him surprise, almost as if her thoughts had been very far away.
"Would you mind if I called my mother now and told her about our impending visit?" he said.
She suddenly felt nervous and moved to sit on the sofa, "I don't know,"
Sheldon followed her and sat down beside her, "Are you upset?" he asked.
Amy shook her head, "Nervous," she breathed.
Sheldon furrowed his eyebrows, "Whatever for?"
Amy sighed, "What if they hate me for not telling them about the twins earlier?"
Sheldon looked at Amy wring her hands on her lap.
"Amy, I don't think they would hate you," he began, "They may be upset but the initial sadness begins to wear off after you meet them,"
Amy looked up at him, "You were sad?"
He nodded, "When you first told me about them, yes,"
Amy felt tears glisten in her eyes, she didn't want to cry but she felt so bad, she would have died if Sheldon kept her children from her for years.
She looked down, "I'm sorry, Sheldon,"
He nodded and almost as unexpectedly as this entire situation, he took her hand.
"Amy, you needn't feel bad, we were in a relationship when I decided to leave, therefore as an equal participant in the relationship I have my own shares of faults," he paused, "I am sorry,"
She looked up at him and felt like a weight she had been carrying around since he left had been lifted and in all this she moved to hug him.
She wrapped her arms tightly around him and he placed his hands gently on her back. It was electric, it was as if they had taken their rightful places, in each others' arms. They found it hard to let go, but when they heard giggling coming from behind the sofa they quickly pulled back, Sheldon keeping a tight hold on her hand.
"Mommmmmy," Marie sung.
Amy stood up and realised the twins probably wanted to change clothes. She let go of Sheldon's hand and turned to look at him, "Call them,"
TBBT
As Sheldon stood in Amy's bedroom, the dial tone rung in his ear.
It wasn't long before he was met with the Texan love and warmth emanating from his mother.
"Oh, Shelly baby, hello," she laughed, "What a wonderful surprise,"
"Hello mom," Sheldon began, "How are you?"
"I'm fine thanks, preparing everything for your visit on the weekend,"
Sheldon felt his stomach twist into a tight knot, "Mom, I saw Amy again,"
Mary Cooper raised her eyebrows at this but decided to play it cool, "Oh right, how are your little friends,"
"They're fine," he took a deep breath, this wasn't going to be easy, "But mom, who I want to talk to you is Amy,"
"O–kay," Mary answered.
"Mom before I left, Amy and I, we," he couldn't bring himself to say it.
"Shelly are you trying to tell me you sinned?" she asked, oh boy if she was to go with every single one of her break ups, then they sinned alright.
"Not in those words but yes," he continued, "Mom are you aware of Darwin's survival of the fittest?" he asked trying a different tack.
"Shelly you know I love you, but don't get me started on sciencey stuff, especially that Darwin man," she warned.
Sheldon sighed, "Mom what I'm trying to say is that," he was just going to tell her, "we procreated,"
There was a long silence on the other end of the line, before his mother spoke again, "Shelly are you trying to tell me you're a father?"
Sheldon smiled, "Yes,"
Mary erupted into tears back in Texas, "Well how old are they? I want to meet them!"
Sheldon spoke, "They're four mother and–"
"Four!?" she shouted.
"Why didn't you tell me?" she said trying to return her voice to normal.
"I didn't know," he continued and there was another silence, but as he felt his mother getting angry he continued, "Mom, Amy and I didn't end our relationship on good terms and I am correct to say that I share a fair share of the fault, but that's not the point," he said, "Amy and I have spoken and have decided to move on, so I was wondering if you would be prepared to welcome Amy and the twins–"
"Twins!" his mother shouted.
"Yes, like Missy and I," he continued smiling, he knew his mother couldn't help her excitement, nor could he," But mom I want them to accompany me to Texas so that everyone can meet them,"
"Yes, yes!" she shouted, "Oh just wait till I tell Missy,"
Sheldon smiled, "Ok mom, I have to go, we'll see you on Friday,"
"Wait!" she said before he hung up.
"Yes?" he asked.
"Thank you Shelly," she said.
"Whatever for?"
"For making me a grandma, for making me the proudest mom in the world,"
