Chapter IV: Dead Where We Stand!

A/N: Apologies on the long wait. Combination of real life, computer issues, and starting another story distracted me from BMR. Thanks go out to Roeksva, Lexim325, MidnightMoonWarrior for their help with this chapter! Enjoy! SSD

Scott walked into the school in a daze. He just could not catch a break. First he and Sam get bitten by a werewolf. Then they nearly get killed by werewolf Hunters. And the icing on the cake was that Allison's father had been one of the Hunters that had tried to kill them both.

One small blessing was that Allison's dad didn't seem to have recognized him. It was something that he was quite thankful for.

Scott also realized that his sister needed to be given a heads up about Allison's dad.

"Shit. I know which Hunter Sam saw. It was Allison's dad," Scott thought ruefully. Leave it to Sam to notice someone's eye color.

Scott trudged into the locker room. Pressing his back against his locker he replayed the events of what had just happened. How am I supposed to tell Sam that I'm dating the daughter of the hunter who shot us? How am I supposed to say that out loud? I can barely believe it now. Staring into the space and trying to get the events out of his head. Stiles was walking by and stopped to see him.

"So, did you talk to Allison?"

"Yeah."

"Is she gonna give you second chance," Stiles asked with a sad expression, worrying for what his friends answer was likely going to be.

"Yeah."

Stiles smiles and says "That's great." Stiles started to walk away.

"No," Scott said.

Stiles was quick to come back. "No?"

"Her father, shot Sam and I," Scott said, trying to process the words himself.

Stiles then says "Her father?"

"With a crossbow," Scott said ignoring Stiles' question.

Stiles then says with disbelief in his voice, "Allison's father?"

"Yes, her father!" Scott snapped. He felt his heart beating faster. "Oh no. What am I gonna do?"

Stiles got in front of him and grabbed his shoulders. He shook him out of his panic and Scott looked into his friends eyes. Stiles continued with

"Listen, it's ok. Maybe Allison doesn't know about her family being what they are."

Scott continued rambling with, "And what if she does and she's only getting close to Sam and I so her dad can finish us off? Sam's gonna kill me when she finds out!"

Stiles replied, "No, she won't."

Scott gave him a look and Stiles began to reconsider the possibility of Sam attacking Scott.

Stiles then says "Yeah, you're so dead."

Scott replied, "I know. What am I gonna do?"

"Go to practice. Act as normal as possible and tell Sam when you get home," Stiles passed Scott his equiptment as he said that.

"Why at home?" Scott asked curiously.

Stiles replied with a snort, "I don't wanna see my best friend get murdered."

Scott's eyes widen in shock. I am totally dead when she finds out. I wonder if I can tell her over the phone or through text. Scott then follows Stiles onto the field for practice.

Scott took a deep breath and looked towards his sister, who seemed to be regaining her control as well. It had been a close one at the lacrosse training, but he was not willing to give up. He was going to play on Saturday, and he was certain his sister was too. At least she had enough control not to shift until she had to protect Stiles.

From him. He was a danger, even to his best friend!

Also, on Saturday, Allison would be there to see him, what if her father was there also? Her father the werewolf hunter...

Perhaps it was not such a good idea to play, Scott thought. That thought he pushed aside almost immediately. Of course he was going to play!

But he needed to tell Sam about Allison's father! She was so not going to be happy about this! He swallowed and took another deep breath.

"Uh, Sam?"

She looked up. "Yes?"

"Are you going to play on Saturday?"

"Yes, of course!" She gave him a miffed look. "What did you think?"

"Me too," Scott confirmed.

"That... may not be a good idea," Stiles told them, looking from one to the other of his friends. "What if you kill someone? Or if either of you just lose control and change?"

"We'll just learn to control it," Scott insisted.

"Before Saturday?" Stiles scoffed. "Yeah, right! Don't forget Allison will be there." He wiggled his eyebrows. "Allison, Scott! You know how she affects you!"

Scott sighed. "Yeah, I know. I just hope her dad isn't there?"

"Her dad? Aren't you a bit touchy? You haven't even kissed her, and you're already afraid of her dad?" Sam rolled her eyes.

"He's a hunter! He's the hunter that shot us both with a crossbow!" Scott told her.

"The guy with the gorgeous blue eyes?" Sam asked.

Scott rolled her eyes at her. "Yes. That one."

"Niiice!" Sam grinned. "That means I can get to meet him!"

"Are you crazy? What if he recognizes you - or just somehow finds out you're a werewolf! He'll kill you!" Scott hissed.

Sam sighed. "True." She looked unhappy.

Stiles shook his head at them. "You're both crazy, do you know that?"

A short time later, they were leaving the school. Turning to her brother and their best friend, Sam pled, "Please try to avoid getting into too much trouble while I'm at work. I can't just up and leave if anything happens without a good reason that I can give to Mr. Curtis."

"Chill out Sam, nothing's going to happen. This is us remember?" Scott smirked.

As she left, Scott could hear Sam mutter, "That's what concerns me."

Sam tried again to pull the valve out, but it was still stuck. She grabbed a small file and filed it a little, and after wiggling the valve a little, it finally slipped through the guide. She smiled, satisfied, and put it with the other three valves.

She suddenly froze and looked up from her work on the forest green Honda CB750, when she caught a scent she had smelled before. She wrinkled her brow, as the memory played out.

It had been that night when they had just turned the first time, when they had run into the werewolf hunters!

She listened nervously as someone got out of a car outside, and walked up to the repair shop. Had one of the hunters somehow found out who she was, and tracked her down?

No, that was just silly, she told herself. There was no way for any of them to possibly know. She forced herself to relax, and decided she would just keep out of the hunter's way. Staying in here would probably be fine.

She listened to her boss talking to the hunter for a little while, then decided to go back to work on the motorcycle. She did not have time to do so before her boss walked into the room together with the hunter... the man with the gorgeous pale blue eyes. She remembered his scent now. It was Allison's father, Chris Argent!

"Sam?" her boss called. "Why don't you take a break from what you're doing right now, and go take a look at Mr. Argent's car. He has some work he needs done quickly."

Today was not her day. Her brother having an episode right out there on the pitch, and now she had to work on the car who belonged to the absolute last person she wanted to help at the moment.

Sam grabbed a rag and cleaned her hands of some of the oil before approaching her boss and Chris Argent. "Sure, I'll... take a look at it." She swallowed a little as Chris Argent seemed to look her over. Was he suspicious? Did he recognize her?

She pushed the thought aside and followed him outside.

"It's nothing big, but I really need it fixed quickly," Argent said, gesturing at his car.

Sam looked at the red Chevy Tahoe. It had a broken light, a scratch along the same side, and the rear-view mirror was broken off on that side too. There did not seem to be any other damage. "It doesn't look too bad, but the paint job may take a little while. It's a pretty common color, though, so we have it in stock. What happened?"

"An... animal jumped out from behind some bushes... and when I swerved to avoid it, I hit a fence." Argent said.

Sam noticed his heart-rate increased a little when he told the story, and she got the distinct impression he was lying. What had he really been doing? Had a run-in with a werewolf?

"I... I see. Well, you were lucky," Sam said. "Uh, let's get it into the repair-shop, so I can get started on it."

"So, you're Sam?" Argent said, when he had parked the car inside the shop. "I must say I was a bit surprised to see the 'Sam' your boss talked about was a girl. It's not a common female name."

"Yeah, I get that a lot." Sam rolled her eyes a little. "It's short for Samantha."

Argent nodded. "I'm guessing you're the Sam my daughter Allison mentioned then? Do you have a brother named Scott?"

"Yes, we're both in her class," Sam told him, as she started finding the tools she would need. "Listen, I should probably get started on your car." She really wanted him to get out of there.

"Of course. When can you have it ready?"

"I need to sand down and polish the area where the scratch is before I repaint it..." Sam thought it over. "Tomorrow afternoon, maybe?"

"That will have to be good enough then," Argent said. "I'll leave you to it. Bye!"

"Bye!" Sam felt a deep relief as Argent left the repair shop. He might have gorgeous eyes, but he was a werewolf hunter - and she was a werewolf. She did not feel comfortable with him hanging around!

Shortly after he left, her boss, Mr. Curtis looked at her and said, "Sam, you looked like you just saw the Devil himself walk in."

Taking a deep breath to regulate her heartbeat, Sam said, "You're not far off from the truth boss. He's the father of the girl Scott wants to date."
