She stares at the doctor in silence, shaking her head. She exhales, and attempts to collect her thoughts. She shifts her glance from his face to the monitor between them. Finally she is able to compose herself enough to form an intelligent thought.

"I don't understand."

"I would have caught this earlier, but you kept cancelling your appointments."

"Why didn't you catch it the first time?"

"I am sorry, I should have seen it the first time, but it isn't entirely unusual for it to be missed on the first scan. Generally you would have already had a second sonogram."

"But I kept cancelling?"

"Is there someone you want me to call? I know that this is a lot to take in."

"I have been dreading this appointment every day since I made it. I thought something was wrong… but this never crossed my mind."

"Everything seems to be right on track for fifteen weeks. I don't see any abnormalities…"

She cuts him off, "Except the second baby."

"I wouldn't call that an abnormality."

"What would you call it?" She responds, incredulously.

"A twin."

"I guess I should just be thankful that they don't have tails."

"Is there someone that you want me to call? I am sure that someone would be willing to come join you."

"I will be fine."

"Would you like to know what you're having?"

"Apparently, I'm having twins," she replies.

"Would you like to know what they are?"

She filters her next thought. Instead of telling him what she's thinking she simply replies, "Yes."

"They are definitely fraternal twins," he reveals.

"How can you tell?"

He points to the image on the screen, "Baby B is a girl."

"Okay."

He moves the probe towards the other baby, "And baby A…"

She cuts him off as she stares at the screen, "Has a penis."

"Well, it's certainly not a tail."

She almost grins, "No, it's not."

"I'll print you off some pictures, and you need to make sure that you make a follow up appointment with the receptionist. You need to keep the appointment, too."

"Of course."

"You're a little higher risk now. I will probably see you just a little more frequently."

"Okay."

She leaves her appointment, and heads to work. She attempts to ignore the facts she's just learned while she's at work. By the time she gets home she is beyond furious. She slams the door when she enters the house. She finds Wendy sitting in the kitchen sipping a glass of milk, just waiting for her.

"Where is everyone?"

"At work."

Ingrid glances at her watch, "Mom should be home by now."

"Well, apparently she's not."

"She's avoiding me isn't she?"

"I do believe that it is possible she is avoiding your wrath."

"Why didn't she tell me?"

Wendy shrugs, "I wish that I knew."

"Why didn't you tell me? Obviously you knew."

"She insisted that it wasn't our place to tell you."

"At least I would have been mentally prepared for what I found out."

"I tried to convince her."

"Since when do you actually listen to her?"

"I was afraid she would put a curse on me, and quite frankly I don't need any more of those."

"Come on."

"How was your appointment?"

"Even worse than I imagined possible," she paces in front of the kitchen table.

"Do you have pictures?"

"Why does it matter?"

"Ingrid just calm down, and we will talk about this."

"What is there to talk about? I am having twins. I was freaked out just thinking about having one baby."

"You will figure it out."

"It all makes sense now."

"What do you mean?"

"I dreamt about this little girl."

"Dreams can be very powerful."

"She was my little girl, and she was beautiful. I called her Casper. She thought that it was hysterical. At the time I just chalked it up to hormones. I didn't think anything of it. Especially since Freya was calling the baby Casper."

"What did the doctor tell you?"

"The child that I envisioned, she is the one that I had no inkling existed."

"Obviously you did, or you wouldn't have dreamed about her."

"I thought I was just having one baby. I was beginning to be okay with the idea. I would have her, and I would figure it out."

"Why don't you have a seat?"

Ingrid takes a deep breath, and stops pacing. She lowers herself into a chair. She sits across the table from Wendy.

"Now we're an even bigger cliché. Not only will we have a Wendy, but also a Casper."

"Are you really going to name her that?"

"No," Ingrid shakes her head.

"I know you were blindsided by the fact that you're having twins, but other than that how did the appointment go?"

"They look fine. Neither of them have tails."

"Or tentacles?"

"No tails or tentacles," Ingrid reveals. She reaches into her bag, which she placed on the floor, next to the table when she walked into the room. She pulls out a pile of black and white stills. She hands the stack to Wendy. She sits in silence, reeling, as Wendy goes through the images.

"Is it still too early to know what they are?" Wendy questions as she flips through the images.

Ingrid leans forward, and looks at the image in front of her.

"That is not a tail," she points to the image between them.

"Not a tail?"

"Or a tentacle," Ingrid adds.

"Would that make it a penis?"

"Yup."

"And Casper?"

"Does not have a penis, or a tail."

"Fraternal twins?"
