Percy Jackson and the Quest to Save the gods
Not Unrequited
Percy's POV
When we arrived outside my mom's apartment building, we gathered our stuff from the trunk of the taxi and the others started walking up the steps to the main door while I paid the driver.
"Here we are." I said, walking up behind them in the lobby of the semi old building. My mom would be delighted to see that Annabeth and I were together, and alive. She hadn't met Cade or Audria before, but I knew she would love them.
"I wonder what she's like." Cade whispered to himself while walking into the elevator. Audria followed beside him, looking at the lobby, observing.
Annabeth and I walked behind them, strangely silent. I don't know why, but she's probably thinking about something. You don't want to interrupt her thinking. End of story.
We got into the elevator and I pushed the button with the number 7 on it. We don't live that far up. My mom isn't so fond of heights.
We reached the 7th floor in a matter of seconds, and stepped out in a straight line of four demigods. Something you see on movies. I thought it was pretty impressive.
I laughed quietly and walked to the door with a 713 on it, knocking quickly and quietly.
In a matter of 2 seconds, the door opened. There, in the doorway, stood my mom, the same as I left her.
"PERCY!" She exclaimed, obviously excited. She gave me one of her killer hugs, and I was out of breathe quick.
"Mom... can't... breathe..." I managed to say. I heard the others laugh, but they would get it soon, too.
"Oh, sorry." She said, then moved on to Annabeth.
"Good to see you to Miss Jackson." She huffed, out of breath as well.
"And these kids are..." She said to me, waiting for me to finish her sentence.
"Oh, yeah. This is Cade." I said, pointing at Cade, "And this is Audria... my half-sister."
"OH! Nice to meet you." She said, then, of course, giving them both a hug.
"Help... me..." Cade whispered.
Audria just stood there, stiff as a board.
I chuckled, and Audria gave me a very mean glare. Scary, even. I turned away, and Annabeth smirked. Audria just smiled.
"Oh!" My mom said, just realizing that we all were still in the hallway. "Come in! Come in!"
Annabeth and I walked in without hesitation, but the others were a different story. They came in, slowly. They weren't scared, more observant than anything else.
"This isn't a trap, I promise." I said, laughing.
"Shut up." Said Cade, walking past me to go into the living and sat on the couch.
I followed his lead and then we were on sitting on the couch while my mom insisted on cooking us lunch. Cade saw the movie stash and him and Audria went to pick one out to watch.
"The Longest Yard!" Cade said, beaming with excitement. "I love this movie! Adam Sandler is so funny!"
"I LOVE Adam Sandler!" Audria said, smiling at Cade at he put the movie in.
They continued to talk about all the movies they liked and disliked, and I walked into the kitchen where my mom was.
"Hey mom." I said, causally, like any other day.
"Do you think we could stay here till tomorrow, around lunch?" I asked, sure that she would say yes.
"Of course! The girls can take your room, and you boys can take the couches." She said, a smile on her face.
"Okay, that sounds good." I said. I didn't mind if Annabeth and Audria took my room. After all, Annabeth's my girlfriend, and Audria's my half-sister. As long as they don't go snooping around...
Audria's POV
I decided to go and take a look around Manhattan. Cade came with me, while Annabeth and Percy stayed behind.
We were walking down the street, just talking away, when I saw a basketball court.
Yes!
"Come on, Cade! There's a b-ball court!" I said, dragging him along.
We walked in and I grabbed a basketball and continued to dribble in for a lay-up.
We shot and talked for who knows how long. He was a pretty decent shooter, and his defense was killer when we played 21. I could tell I would become really great friends with him, and I was glad.
I noticed it started to get quiet, so I said, "Come on, Cade. We'd better get going before they start a search party for us."
"Yeah, you're right. That would suck when they found us. They'd beat us to death."
We both laughed and walked back to Percy's place.
"So, who's your favorite MLB team?" Cade asked.
"New York Yankees. You?"
"EEEEEEEEEEWWWW! Boston Red Sox!" He said, a smile on his face.
"Aw, shut up. They suck!" I said, pushing him a little.
He pushed back, playfully. We kept it going till I pushed a little too hard.
"Sorry..." I said, helping him up off the ground.
"S'kay. I was asking for it. Note to self: Don't mess with Audria."
I started laughing like crazy.
I looked at him and he was smiling of amusement. I started to blush. He's so cu- NOOOO! I WAS NOT ABOUT TO THINK THAT! He's a son of Athena. Stop, Audria Oceanus. Stop.
I frowned and told him we better hurry back. He seemed to be bothered by it, but he followed me anyways.
We arrived at Percy's just in time for dinner.
"PIZZA!" Said Cade.
We all sat in the living room and watched a football game. I forget who was playing because we weren't really watching it. We were all talking.
"So, Audria, Percy tells me you play basketball?" Asked Sally.
"Yes ma'am." I replied, blushing a little.
"What position?"
"Wing and Guard."
She just smiled. Umm... What's the joke here?
"My mom played in college." Percy said.
"No way! That's awesome! What team?" I asked.
"New York U." She replied triumphantly.
"Wow!" I said, looking at the smiling Sally.
"Come on, Audria. I'll show some pictures and articles." She said, getting up and motioning me to follow her. I followed her into her bedroom, leaving the other behind in the living room.
She went behind her desk and got out a binder. It had 'NYU' on it, and a bobcat around the N. It was pretty cool, the binder, I mean. She opened it and there were a ton of pictures of her. One was of her bringing it down the court. Another of her shooting a three.
"I stripped it, too." She said, knowing which one I was looking at.
She was really good according to the articles. There was a lot of them, too. Like, A LOT! I was speechless. I was standing in front of a NYU basketball legend.
There was one article that caught my eye though. It read:
NYU STAR OFFERED TO PLAY IN THE WNBA
Sally Jackson, NYU Basketball Star, was offered to play in the WNBA for the Houston Comets. But, to all of our shock, she turned them down due to he-
"I was pregnant with Percy. It broke my heart that I couldn't play for them. I really wanted to, but I don't regret it. I got Percy instead, and I'm as happy as ever. I really am. He's growing up to be a great boy."
"That's so great of you, to not be bitter about it. I know a lot of people who would resent their child because of that. You're a great mother." I said, admiring her.
"Thank you, Audria. That really does mean a lot to me. If you need any help, I'd be glad to offer you some. With anything, not just basketball." She winked at me and walked out of the room. I followed and when I got into the room with all the others, I only had one thing to say.
"Your mom is awesome, Percy."
They all laughed, and Percy said, "I know." He kissed his mom on the cheek and I was insanely jealous of their relationship.
We continued to talk until it was time to go to sleep. Annabeth and I took Percy's room, while he and Cade took the living room. We all got ready for bed, but I was too restless to lay down.
It was time for sunset, and I love watching the sunset. Just me, the beautiful sky and its wonderful sunset, and peace. No worries. No fighting. No stress. No confusion.
I say confusion, because, well, Cade confusing me. He doesn't confuse me as much I do, though. I shouldn't be getting so close to him already. He's so sweet, and understanding, and kind, and so opened minded, telling me everything about him. Like he already trusts me. But we've only known each other for two days, three days tomorrow.
Jeez, now I'm counting.
Admit it, Audria, you kind of admire the kid! Said a voice in my head.
But he's a son of ATHENA! I told myself. Athena hates Poseidon... and his kids.
Percy and Annabeth are together, though, I heard in my head. So maybe it's not as bad as we thought.
Yeah, but Annabeth wanted him, to be with him. And Athena couldn't make her unhappy. And besides, Cade probably just thinks of me as some girl that showed up two days ago that he can talk to. I'm nothing special.
Have hope, Audria.
Stupid voice.
I shook off all those thoughts and went to the back door that lead out to the balcony. The room is one of the ones at the back side of the building, so they got a balcony, which I thought was really cool. I slipped through the door, silently. Perfect view.
Perfect timing, I thought. The sun was just setting. Everyone else was in the house watching TV or going to bed. I just sat down on a bench and watched the show.
The sun was alight all of a sudden. It was orange, and so was the sky across the sun. It was breathtaking.
"Beautiful." I whispered.
"Yes." A familiar voice spoke. "Yes, you are."
I looked to my right, and there sat a completely relaxed son of Athena, watching the sunset, same as me.
I didn't know how to react, but I felt myself blush.
"Yeah, that was pretty corny." He said, smirking as he saw me blushing.
I turned my head back to the sunset and said, "Maybe a little."
He came and sat next to me. I turned my head to look at him and found myself face to face, like, literally. Nose touching. But, for some reason, I didn't turn my head. And I had a feeling that I wouldn't even if someone yelled "HADES!"
"I meant it, though." He whispered, closing his eyes and leaning in.
I met him halfway, touching my lips with his. Gently, but passionately. It was a sweet, innocent kiss, that didn't last very long. The look in his eyes took my breath away.
"I know we really just met, but I just had to do that. Ever since I saw you, I've had this feeling about you. Like I'm drawn to you. There's just something about you and I want to figure out what it is." Cade's eyes were sparkling as he spoke, making my heart skip a couple of beats.
"Goodnight," he said. "Sweet dreams, Audria."
And with that, he left the balcony and I was alone once more.
The sunset was almost over, but still beautiful nonetheless. I thought about how my summer was starting off pretty great already. Cade and I seemed to have hit it off pretty good, and I already adored my new brother, Percy, and his girlfriend, Annabeth, who happened to be Cade's sister. I've learned that the godly side of the family tree can get a little confusing sometimes.
I watched the end of the sunset and walked back inside. I got into bed beside Annabeth, who was beaming just as much as I was.
"Cade's a good guy." She said, still smiling at the ceiling. "He's never really liked a girl before, but I can tell he has some feelings for you."
I smiled and felt warm inside.
"They're definitely not unrequited."
