Ororo awoke to the fragrant smell of bacon. Her stomach rumbled and she sat up. The bright lights from the balcony assaulted her eyes. What happened last night? She shrugged it would come back to her eventually. She stood and stretched throwing on a robe and going to the bathroom. Twenty minutes later she emerged feeling a lot better.
She made her way downstairs to the kitchen. The table had been set with fresh fruit, eggs, bacon, waffles and more. She took a seat and shared herself some of the bacon and eggs. She patted her stomach softly, "Sorry hunny," she hadn't really eaten anything for a few days and she knew she should, if not for her then for her son. As she ate, she surveyed the dining room; she didn't really look at it the other day. It was beautifully decorated, a giant table situated in the middle. On the walls hung family portraits she guessed. She stood when she was finished, going to the last one. It was Logan. No it wasn't, it must be his father their faces were similar yet he had grey hair at the temples.
She looked around for the maid but she couldn't find her so she, started putting up the leftovers into the fridge. She cleared away the table and begun to wash the dishes. Anything to keep herself busy, being alone on this island was like torture. There was no one to talk to, no human contact she felt lonely, isolated. Even having Logan here would be better.
She finished the dishes and went outside for her morning walk. She had explored almost half the island already, and under different circumstance this would have been paradise. The beach that surrounded it was beautiful, the sand warm under her feet. Half of it was filled with a mini forest of fruit trees. And what seemed to be a man-made lake right in the middle of it. She would go there today and maybe take a swim. She was half way to the lake when she realized she hadn't brought a change of clothes.
She thought about it for a second and just shrugged there was no one around, and the only other person on the island was a woman. She would just go in naked, and so she did. She shed her clothes at the bank and slipped into the cool water slowly. It was refreshing. She sighed in bliss, she loved the water, and she loved the trees that grew around here. She felt at peace like she was in her own little Garden of Eden. She closed her eyes and let the water lap at her body.
She got out only when her fingers began to wrinkle. She laid her skirt down under a mango tree and laid down to relax. If only Logan were here. She frowned, of course he couldn't be here he was in jail. Even if he wasn't he would be at work. She knew she shouldn't be thinking about him, but it was hard not to. He was the father of her child, he would be in her life for years to come, maybe not as a romantic interest but he would be involved in her son's life.
As she lay there thinking the sound of a helicopter caught her attention. She glanced up shielding her eyes from the sun, to spot a small dot approaching the island. Maybe it was just a plane passing by, she continued to watch it as it got closer and closer to the island. She got up slowly and dressed and made her way back to the house. She made it back just as the helicopter touched down.
She stood back as the blades whirled above it, holding her skirt down. The engine stopped and the door opened. She sighed. It was just the maid, she unloaded some bags from copter. Ororo went over to help her, she bent picking up one of the bags.
"What are ya doing 'Ro."
The familiar deep voice resounded in her ear. She glanced up to stare into his piercing dark eyes, his brows furrowed a deep frown on his lips, "Logan..." she straighten up, "Your back."
He said nothing stepping out of the copter and taking the bags she had, he said something to the maid and turned to her, "How is the baby?"
Ororo glanced down at her stomach, then back at him, "He's fine."
"Good" he walked off without another word to her.
Ororo stood dumbfounded for a second before walking to catch up with him, " That's all you are going to say Logan?"
"What would ya like me to say?"
She frowned, "an explanation would be great."
"For?"
She shook her head, "Logan would you stop for a second," the swim and the walk back had taken a lot out of her.
He let out a deep breath and stood still watching as she caught up to him, "what did I tell ya bought taking it easy Ro."
"You're the one speed walking as if it's a race." She stop next to him catching her breath. "Now can you explain to me why you kidnapped me and brought me here, while you're at it explain to me why you were in jail?"
He rolled his eyes, this woman was something else, he wasn't about to tell her did it to keep her away from Matt. The only threat to his ultimate goal. "I already told ya, as for jail, that bitch had it coming to him." He shrugged and walked off again.
He hadn't given her any feasible reason for locking her away, from the outside world. It was not that dangerous if he thought about it, her being alone on the island was far more dangerous. What if something happened there would be no one around to help her.
She stood there watching his retreating figure. Did he really just expect her to roll over and take everything he said at face value? She would get the truth out of him, no matter what it took she would make him talk.
She finally made it inside to a quiet house. She wasn't going to go look for him, he would come to her sooner or later. She went upstairs and took a quick shower, and dressed. She would have to get new clothes soon, she had just bought these ones and it seemed as if she had already out grown them. She ran her hand over her stomach lovingly, "You're getting big aren't you?" she giggled to herself imagining how she would look in a few months.
She was already six months into the pregnancy, yet she wasn't as big as she thought she would be, maybe he would have a sudden growth spurt.
A knock on the door interrupted her thoughts and she went to the door.
"Dinner is ready Madam. I will be returning to the mainland now. If you need something please call me I will bring it back." She said and turned to leave.
"Thanks..." Ororo uttered but the maid was already gone. Was she leaving because Logan had come back? She frowned now it would just be them on the island. She wanted to catch up with the maid and beg her to take her with her, beg her to stay...
She walked into the kitchen her stomach in knots. Logan stood with his back turned to her staring at one of the picture that hung on the wall. She glanced at it and was taken back. It was her...
Her big blue eyes stared back at her, a big smile on her face. She remembered that day, Logan had taken her to his home, they had spent the whole day frolicking in the pool and making love. She stayed over that night and fell asleep in his arms, he had kissed her passionately, and asked her to promise she would always be his. She had of course, there was nothing she wanted more than to be with him, she was in love.
She turned away from the picture and the memories it brought back.
"Do ya like it?" Logan was next to her now, without her even realizing he had gotten so close.
"No."
"Ya remember don't ya Ro?"
She shook her head she wouldn't give him that satisfaction of knowing she remembered that night and everyone they had shared together all too well. The memories were burned into her brain and nothing could erase them.
He grabbed her pulling her close to him, her back against his chest. His hand laid on her stomach and he gently rubbed it. "Has he kicked yet?"
His breath tickled the back of her neck, she wanted to pull away from him, but he was so warm, and it felt so right to be here in this moment. Her heart softened a bit and she nodded," I think he likes it when I go swimming, he was very active earlier."
Logan smiled, "Just like his old man."
She sighed, maybe it was the loneliness of the past few days, but having him here now made her feel happy? Content? She wasn't sure.
Logan held her for a few minutes longer before letting her go and pulling out a seat for her, "Sit let's eat you must be starving."
It was true she was hungry, "Thanks." she sat and watched as he served the meal, silence echoing in the room, He took a seat and began to eat she followed suit.
"The maid left?" She glanced up to him, after avoiding his gaze for the last few minutes.
"Mmhmm."
"Why?"
"I'm here now, so she is not needed." He went back to eating as if that should have answered all her questions.
Ororo frowned, she couldn't go on like this with him, yes and no answers barely any words from him, it felt like she was still here alone, might as well be with his company. "How long do you plan on keeping me here Logan?"
He shrugged and took a sip of his beer.
"What about the baby Logan? I am supposed to see Dr. Hank in a few days for the checkup."
"He can come here."
"You can't do this Logan, keeping me here against my will is against the law you know."
"I know." He smirked at her.
She stood, mad at him and this whole situation, how could he be so tender one second and the next a heartless bastard? "I want to leave Logan, I want to see my friends and my family. Being here is horrible, I hate it."
"Sit down and eat 'Ro." He gazed at her a dangerous glint in his eyes.
"What if I refuse?" she crossed her hands over her protruding belly defiantly, her own fire returning.
"Don't make me do something I will regret Darlin'" his gaze was still deadly an irritated edge in his voice as he stared at her.
She said nothing else as she turned and walked away. She yelped as she was picked up off the ground, and carried like a little kid back to the table. He plopped her down in the chair, and sat next to her.
"Eat."
She shook her head, "I'm not a child Logan you cannot force me to eat, besides I am not hungry I've eaten more than enough already."
He sighed, "Why the hell ya being so difficult 'Ro? Is it really that bad being here, being with me?"
His head was hung, and she felt bad. It wasn't that bad, it's just he was forcing her to be here, if he had given her a choice she might of came if only to enjoy the splendor of the island but he hadn't. "I don't want to be here Logan...I'm pregnant I want to enjoy it, enjoy everything that comes along with being pregnant. Shopping for clothes, showing off my bump, I just want to go back home. "
"If ya wanna go shopping I'll take ya Darlin; whateva ya wanna do, I just want you to be around."
Ororo turned to look at him, he looked forlorn, a kind of desperate look on his face. She reached out and touched his hand, "So I have to be here for that Logan? What are you afraid of?"
"Ya leaving..."
He was afraid she was going to take the baby or was he afraid she didn't want to be with him," Logan, I'm not going to run off with the baby, you can see him whenever you want to. You are welcome to come to any of the appointments. I am not going to exclude you from his life." She stood and rested her hand on his shoulder reassuringly, "He is your baby Logan I would not keep him from you, and I am not that kind of person. I would not let my personal feelings affect him."
"Personal feelings? Ya mean your hate for me?" He stood brushing her aside and going to the dining room door, "Ya staying here 'ro so ya might as well get used to it." He walked off without another word leaving Ororo standing in silence.
-Days Later-
Ororo sat quietly by the beach. Logan had disappeared beneath the waves. He had followed her out there on pretense of taking a swim, but instead he had turned into a make shift tour guide. They had been all around the island, he had shown her places she hadn't noticed before, like a small little cave tucked behind the waterfall.
She glanced up at the splash of water, he stepped out and came to sit by her, "Why dont ya come in 'ro it's pretty warm."
She shook her head," I dont want to Logan, I think I've had enough fun for one day, "she said dryly. " I just want to sit here and think."
"About"
"stuff Logan, it doesn't really matter." she heaved a sigh, even if she told him he wouldn't care, nothing she wanted seem to matter to him.
"Let's go back inside, I'll make ya something to eat, or if ya want we could go somewhere..."
"You mean off the island?"
He nodded.
She stood a little too suddenly and stopped dizzy from the sudden rush. Logan caught her before she fell. He held her close to his chest, " gotta be careful Darlin'"
She nodded expecting him to let her go, but he didn't. He held her close his arms wrapped around her. As if it would be the last time he held her. "I'll carry ya."
She hesitated before letting him scoop her up into his arms. She snuggled into his big arms, the warmth was so very comforting. She listened to his heartbeat as he carried her back to the house. She glanced at him under her lashes, ~Logan~
"Hmmm?"
She blushed turning her face back into his chest, had she really called his name. Looking at him like this, being in his arms like this made her feel safe, secure like nothing could happen to her, nothing was wrong in the world..."We...dont have to go out...I'll make you dinner...if...if you want." She blushed again, wanting to kick herself. She hadn't stammered like that since she was in high school, she was a grown woman now but it seems whenever he was around she reverted back into a school girl shyly trying to keep up a conversation with her crush.
"Sounds good 'ro."
"I'm not the best cook though..."
"Doesn't matta, I'll eat wateva ya make Darlin'."
She nodded going quiet. What was she doing, she had just blown her chance of leaving the island. She still wanted to leave right? Maybe it was her hormones going out of whack, but she wanted to be close to Logan more than she wanted to be away from him. She smiled to herself and tried to push all her thoughts away and enjoy this fleeting feeling of contentment.
-About a month later-
It seemed as the halfway mark between her sixth and seventh month her stomach exploded, and her baby had a growth spurt. Her stomach had grown a lot, and Hank had said her baby was right on time, the slow development was nothing to be worried about. The baby was healthy and that's all that mattered to her.
She eased herself into the soft couch, waiting for Logan to come downstairs. She was surprised he had taken all the time off, he had not once left her to go to work, but she knew he did whatever he needed to do at night when she was already safely tucked away in bed.
She didn't quite know how to feel about it. In the time he had been back it was like she was with a different man. He seemed to have changed, he was always there when she needed or wanted anything, and sometimes he knew it before she did. He had loosened up a lot, giving her a little more freedom. He allowed her to leave the island for her doctor's visit, he always went with her, to see the baby. He was fascinated with him, his eyes always filled with wonder when the screen lit up.
If she was going to be honest with herself, he would make a good father. And for that alone she appreciated him. Her baby wouldn't have to grow up in a broken home, as she had. She wouldn't have to struggle to be a father and mother, teaching him what he needed to know about being a man, yet be tender and loving in the process.
Logan came downed dressed up. She sat up, he looked good no matter what he was in, but he looked polished, his hair combed back, the suit fit perfectly. He stood in front of the mirror adjusting his tie.
"Where are you going Logan?"
"Black tie event for the company. My father is going to be there."
Ororo watched him, she didn't know his father was alive, she didn't know much about him at all, yet she was going to have his kid, "You do not want to go?"
"Of course I dont Darlin'," He glanced at her in the mirror," Much ratha spend the night here wit ya, maybe skinny dipping," their eyes met and he held her stare, his gaze deepening, a look of lust in his eyes, "maybe fuckin on the beach."
Ororo blushed averting his eyes. He didn't mean that. She was as big as a house and she was far from attractive right now, "Don't say things you dont mean Logan." She pushed herself off the couch, her mood changing instantly. She hated when he teased her, as if he got some sick joy out of making her look like a fool.
She walked past him and he grabbed her arm, "I wouldn't of said it if I didn't mean it." His grip loosened and he stared at her, "Go get dressed ya coming with me."
Ororo pulled away, "No I am not Logan, I can't go anywhere looking like this." She stepped back away from him. She wasn't worried about the clothes, she didn't have her wigs or contacts, and there was no way she was going out in public like this.
"Go upstairs put on a dress and bring ya ass back down here."
she shook her head vehemently, apprehension marring her features," Why Logan, you will be fine by yourself you dont need an ugly whale dragging you down."
One brow rose as he stared at her, "Ugly? Whale?" He shook his head a smirk forming, "Neither words I woulda chose to describe ya Ro." His eyes drifted over her body, " Let's see, how about beautiful, graceful, glowing, goddess...stop me anytime Ro." he said sarcastically.
She stared at him a frown on her face, "You should of stop before you spoke Logan. You always do this to me, I'm none of those, yet you try and stuff it down my throat I wish you would stop lying then maybe both of us could be happy." She turned to walk away and he grabbed her arm again, this time the grip was tight.
"Walk ya ass upstairs and get dressed I dont want to hear another word about it, you're going and that's it. If I didn't want to be seen with you I wouldn't have invited ya do you understand."
"But my hair..."
"Get the fuck over it Ro, your unique your beautiful I dont know why the hell you care what anyone one else thinks of ya. " he didn't know what he could say or do to let her know he found her sexy as hell, and even now seven months pregnant he still wanted her. Why she couldn't see that was beyond him. She was the same way in high school, always sitting in the back, afraid to bring attention to herself, when she was hotter than the rest of the girls there. If she had a little more confidence in herself she would have been the most sought after girl in school.
He sighed letting her go," Just go get ready please, hour max ok."
Ororo nodded and sulked off to her bedroom. She would much rather stay on this island than face the public without her usual facade. Logan didn't understand how she felt, how could he? He had always been handsome, she had always been shunned. Her years at high school had really tore at her self-confidence, she was always second guessing how she should feel and act in certain situations.
None of that matter right now, she had to get ready and be downstairs in less than an hour. If she wasn't she was sure he would come up and bathe and dress her himself. She took a quick shower and mulled in her closet taking out the first dress she saw. She slipped it on and was amazed it still fit and looked fine on her. She brushed on some eye shadow and nude lipstick, and quickly pulled her long hair to the side, before walking out the bedroom door.
Logan had been busy on his phone when he heard her come down the stairs he glanced up as she entered the room timidly. Her steps were hesitant, yet the sight that greeted him was one of pure beauty. The dress was white knee length, a low neckline. The tops of her chocolate breasts teased him, her bump was prominent under the flowing dress. She had pulled her hair to the side exposing her long neck, the tips of her hair laying just above her breasts.
"umm..." she wasn't sure what to think, he hadn't spoken since she walked in and now she was feeling nervous, maybe the dress didn't hide her bump enough or maybe it was to low cut, " I can go change if you dont like it..." her voice faded off as she glanced at the ground.
"It's perfect 'Ro."
She blushed still looking to her feet, cursing herself for feeling like such a kid, desperate for their parent's approval, only she wanted Logan to think she was attractive but no matter how much he said it, it felt as if it was a cruel joke, he played over and over.
"Let's go Darlin' the quicker we make an appearance, the sooner we can leave."
She nodded and accepted his arm as he led her outside.
-About an hour later-
Ororo stood next to Logan, a forced smile on her face. She had no clue who he was talking to and she really didn't care. She wanted to sit down, no better yet she wanted to leave and be in her bed.
"Logan."
A strong deep voice, sounded from behind them and she turned slightly to see who it was. The same guy from the picture, Logan's father.
"James" His greeting was curt with a simple nod of his head.
Ororo glanced at the two men, they looked so similar yet she could feel the tension between the two.
"Who is this lovely, pregnant lady?" James glanced at her, his eyes just as dark as Logan's, and for a second she couldn't look away.
She nudged Logan expectantly but when he said nothing she stretched out her hand to his father, "I am Ororo Munroe."
"Beautiful name, sounds familiar. But I would remember meeting such a pretty woman."
Ororo giggled, she never met his father, or any member of his family for that matter, and "I do not think we have. I used to go to school with Logan though."
"Ahh, maybe that's it…" He stopped thinking about something for a second then a grin came back to his face, "It's a pleasure meeting you, and I hope it will not be the last, seeing as how my first grandchild will be born soon."
Ororo smiled back at him and nodded, "I promise I'll bring him around to see you."
"A boy," his grin got wider if that was possible," another little Logan running around, oh I cannot wait."
"If by the looks of you two, he will be a splitting image of his father."
The older man nodded taking out one of his business cards and scribbling something on the back, " Call me anytime you want Ororo, my address is written on the back stop by and see me soon ok."
She nodded slipping the slip of paper into her purse, she stretched out her hand to shake his again, and he brushed it away, pulling her into a hug.
"That's enough." Logan's tone was terse, as he pulled her away from his father.
James shook his head and laughed, "See you later Logan, pleasure meeting you Ororo." He walked off disappearing into the crowd of people.
"What was that all about Logan?" she pulled herself away from him a frown on her face.
"Give me the card."
"What, why?" she took a step back from him.
"Will ya just fucking listen 'ro. Give me the damn card, ya don't need it."
Ororo sighed feeling embarrassed, "I will not Logan, so do not ask again. Whatever you have against your father I don't have any part in it. As I said before I will not let my personal feelings affect our child, which means yours too."
Logan ran a hand through his thick hair, agitated that she wouldn't listen to him, he knew exactly what kind of man his father was, " I won't have to change your mind, believe me he will do it for you sooner or later."
She shrugged, not really sure what he meant but not caring to talk about it anymore, her head was beginning to hurt and she really just wanted to go sit down. "I'm going to the restroom."
"Let me…"
"I will be fine, don't worry I'm not going to run off." She walked off before he could say anything else to her.
-A little later-
Ororo sat quietly at one of the tables, watching as others mingled. Logan had went to talk to a new business associate and left her to her own devices. She had tried to mingle for a while, but she didn't know anyone here. She had hoped Betty would show up but it didn't seem like that was going to happen, so she sat sipping her water. She watched the door as new guest arrived, still hoping to see a familiar face.
She glanced down at her watch, they hadn't even been there that long and she was ready to go, even the island was better than this. She glanced up just in time to see Betty walk in followed by Matt…
"Oh no," she whispered to herself, she hurriedly got up and made her way to the bathroom. She hadn't spoken to Matt for months and to be honest she didn't want to. Logan must have told him the baby was not his right, she groaned, Logan… last time they had met it had ended in a fight, she glanced at herself in the mirror and tried to look as calm as she could, she had to find Logan, make sure he didn't do anything he would regret.
She glanced around before stepping out from behind the door. She quickly spotted Logan, and started over to him…
"Emily."
The recognizable voice called out to her as she was pulled into an open door. She turned around, to stare into Matts face. "Matt…"
"Finally found you." He stayed close to his eyes roaming her body, "It's nice to see you again, Emily, I was worried about you."
She felt awkward standing in front of him, "I've been good."
"How's the baby?" He reached out and touched her stomach affectionately, and she stepped back.
"The baby is fine Matt…did Logan…."
His smile turned into a scowl the moment she mention his name a look, of loathing coming to his face, " I don't believe him and neither should you Emily." His voice became hushed, "that bastard is lying for some reason I cannot figure it out yet. I know you two used to have a thing before and maybe he was jealous because we were getting close, or maybe he wanted you back but the only way he could get you was to lie and say he was the father of your baby." He had started pacing as he spoke.
Ororo watched him, Logan wouldn't lie would he? He had said he slept with her that night, but what if he had just used that to convince her the baby was his.
"Think about it Emily," He stood next to her now, his hands going to her face, " Do you really know if he is the father?"
Ororo shook her head, her eyes meeting Matts, "No…"
He could tell she was thinking everything out and realizing that maybe he was right, "I could be the father Emily."
Ororo stared at him, he was right. How had she been so blind? She let Logan take her away without even an explanation without even proving that he was in fact the father of her child.
"Come with me Emily, I'll take you away from here until you can get a DNA test done." Matts finger brushed access her cheek tenderly, "You shouldn't be cooped up away from your friends…your family…"
She nodded, this was what she wanted wasn't it, to get away from the island to be free from Logan…but the last few weeks she hadn't felt like she was trapped like before she had felt like she had at eighteen, in love. She had actually started to enjoy the time she spent with him, enjoy how much he fawned over her and their unborn baby. But Matt was right, Logan had taken her away with no contact to the outside world, that wasn't how she wanted to live her life.
"Emily?"
"Ok…" her voice faltered as she glanced at her stomach, "Get me out of here Matt."
Matt grinned, nodding to her, "Hold on a second," He went to the door glancing out it to make sure the coast was clear, he spotted Betty and Logan chatting and smirked to himself, "Let's go."
She followed behind him her hand in his until they walked out the door. She inwardly sighed, she was free.
