Sorry for the delay, happy new year and all that. This is a belated birthday present from me. I did start it on wednesday but school got in the way...
To all those I did not respond to the reviews for, sorry but thank you for always putting a smile on my face :)
I do not own Alex Rider or James Bond. I only use the characters for non-profit based reasons to entertain myself and others. If I did own them, then I would make money by making them do the macarena... but I don't so oh well.
James and Alex were incredibly comfortable in their privet plane. What was the point of posing as a rich man and his son if you didn't get the perks that come with the rich life? The journey would apparently take five hours so James spent the time trying to sleep and Alex glared out the window. Although James didn't seem to be so bad, he'd still rather not have a partner. If you wanted to go further into that, he didn't want to be on a mission. However, there was a long list you could go into, he didn't want Ian dead, which would mean Jack was alive or even his parents to be dead resulting in everyone being alive! None of this changed anything so Alex decided to push it to the far reaches of his mind. He thought about the mission at hand.
"You said we were going to America to get some information earlier and then changed it to catching a private plane to the island. Why didn't we just catch a plane from England all the way to the island?" Alex asked suddenly, breaking the comfortable silence of the comfortable plane.
There was a moment where all anyone could hear was the whirling of the plane's engines outside. Then James opened one eye, turned his head to look at Alex, and opened the other eye.
"The American's contacted me before we took off from England. Apparently there was no information they could give us to further improve our knowledge of the mission. Instead they said they'd give us the plane in thanks to doing this mission instead of one of them having to do it." James said with a bored shrug then he added, "The plane was a thank you gift. Apparently we're both high up on Joe Bryan's thank you list."
"Isn't he Tamara's boss?" Alex asked remembering the name. James gave a curt nod before turning his head and looking out the window.
Alex decided glaring out the window wasn't changing much so he moved to the back of the plane and into a different section of it, one that had a rather nice TV and a decent DVD collection. He decided he would spend his time rummaging through that. The best way to pass the time was to watch anything he felt Tom would envy. His head filled with the jealous face of Tom when he told him what he watch on a private plane whilst seated on a comfortable bed. The thought made him grin.
Meanwhile, James stared out the window and saw as the light of the sun disappeared under the blanket of clouds that the plane was gliding on. It would have looked romantic or beautiful to anyone interested in that sort of view. To James it just signalled that he would be arriving at the island at around one in the morning and he would have jetlag for the next day or so. His thoughts then drifted to his mission partner, Alex. He didn't want a partner, especially not a child. Then he remembered Alex's fighting, his knowledge of a gun and his interaction with their superior. Alex knew what he was doing and he was good at it, James thought. He had to respect Alex for his fighting; it was well timed and precise. Although he respected the teen, he still didn't want him on the mission. As this thought brought a groan to his mind he stopped thinking altogether and tried to get some more sleep. He didn't want to drink as much as usual if there was another person's life on the line so he would cut down for this mission.
When the plane finally touched down on the small, privately owned runway of a secluded island near the Mediterranean, James and Alex walked of their plane and thanked the stewardess and pilot who had made their flight so comfortable. Once they had all their bags by their feet a black SUV drove towards them. Two men jumped out of the car, both carrying machine guns which they slung over their shoulders. It was hard to see the make of them in the dark. The men on the other hand, were easy to analyse. One was large with muscle but short in height. He was only around 5'4, no more than 5'6. The other was about a foot taller in height and had less muscle but both spies could see by the way he walked that this man was a trained killer. He moved like a dancer. He reminded Alex of the assassin who had died for not killing him, Yassen Gregoravitch, although, Yassen moved more gracefully and with more practice.
"My name is George," the short man greeted in a gruff voice, "and this is my associated, Alex."
Alex decided to act like the teen his character was a let out a small laugh.
"Hey," he said with childish delight, "we have the same name."
James, acting the role of a father let out a small laugh too before greeting the men. You could tell the guard Alex had had a long day and couldn't be bothered with childish jokes or formalities. Still, he put on a forced smile and shook their hands before leading the way back to the car.
"As you can see," Alex, the one with the machine gun, said in English with a Spanish accent, "the house is very close. Look to your left and you'll see lights of the house."
Alex and James did as the man said but instead of seeing a small amount of light in the vague shape of a house there was a dome of bright light illuminating a mansion with enough space to fit all of Brookland School, year 7 to sixth form, and then some! Not just that but it was a five minute walk from the runway. The only reason it would take longer by car was the winding road up to the front door. Alex looked at the house in awe while James looked out of the other window, looking for any other signs of light signalling other people living there. All he saw was pitch black other then the moon which was nearly full. Then something caught his eye. A reflection! That meant that this part of the island was by the sea so any hidden or not so hidden buildings on the island would be elsewhere. Alex, on the other hand, was now looking out of the window and, to the men in the front seat, it looked like he was just staring at the house but in truth he was counting the security cameras along the road. They arrived at the house within another three minutes and Alex and James climbed out. The gun wielding assistants, as Alex had dubbed them, went to the boot of the car and pulled out their bags before handing them to the spies.
"I'm afraid that our boss is not available at this moment. He will meet you at breakfast. My companion and I will led you to your rooms and leave you to rest." Said George. Then he and his companion Alex led the way into the house and to a lift. They went up three floors before leading the spies down a long corridor and stopping at a large oak door. The house was lavish with red carpet. There were occasional wooden polished tables with flowers. So far they had passed one vase of red roses, another with blue tulips and a vase of a stems Alex didn't know the name of. They had white balls of fluff coming out of the stems which were very soft.
"This is where you will be staying. We hope you enjoy your stay." Alex, the adult, said with a small bow. He and George then left and went back down the corridor. Once they were out of sight Alex turned to James. They looked at each other for a moment before James grabbed the golden, lion shaped door knob and opened the door. This door led to a wide room with a high ceiling with blue walls. It seemed as lavish as the rest of the mansion but more comfortable and homely. On one side of the room there was a comfortable blue sofa with two single blue throne looking chairs either side. They were circling a 50 inch TV. Alex saw an Xbox, Wii and the latest Playstation on separate shelves of a modern, strong plastic shelf unit. It was very stylish. It was just a wave shape with each wave being another platform. Following that, there was a DVD player and a small wooden cupboard which James guessed contained DVDs his suspicions were proven right when Alex went over and opened it. The cupboard was stacked with a variety of DVDs. Surround sound speakers surrounded the chairs. To the left of the TV was a wooden door. On another wall was a table with comfortable dining chairs. There was a small kitchen unit right next to the table with a kettle, three small pots labelled tea, sugar and coffee. There was also three cupboards holding up the unit. They probably held cup, plates and all the normal kitchen wear. On the final wall was another door. There was also a variety of sports equipment from a treadmill to an ergo (rowing machine). On the wall which they had just come through with the large oak door was a smaller door slightly to the left. James went to inspect it. It was a toilet room. There was no bath just a plain toilet and a sink with different soaps and moisturisers.
Alex walked over and poked his head in as well.
"I'm guessing that means the two other doors lead to bedrooms." Alex stated. James nodded. They said nothing as the moved around the room looking for bugs. They then picked a room each and inspected for any other bugs before dumping their bags on their large king sized double beds and meeting over by the sofas.
"Noticing anything weird on the drive?" Alex asked in a bored voice.
"Yes, the runway is near the sea. If we want to find anything out we should see if there is a beach and if there are any caves which are in use." James stated. "What did you notice?"
"The drive to the house was too long. We could have walked it quicker. A man owns an island and then makes a long complicated road. Why? Simple, there were cameras all along the road. There were heat sensors and x ray cameras all the way along the road. You then had motion detectors in the trees so people couldn't hide there." Alex pointed out. James hid how impressed he was.
"Yes, I noticed how few trees there were." James agreed.
"It's so people can't hide behind them but also so extra security measures can be put in place but you can't put a sniper in them." Alex claimed. James nodded.
"I think, it's time for bed. We'll inspect the island tomorrow. Either with or without our hosts knowledge. If we get caught, claim curiousity overtook you and you wanted to look around." James said before standing up, stretching and going to the room by the exercise gear. Alex stayed for a few moments longer and looked around the room before following his partners example and stretching before going to the room by the TV. Both spies laid out their bathroom items in their en-suite bathrooms with both a bath on one side and a shower on the other side. The shower had holes for water to come out of on the side of the wall. This man had all the money in the world yet he wanted more. Neither could fathom why!
Once they had finished with their toiletries they went over to their own large beds. James changed into his missions appropriate pyjamas while Alex only put on the bottom half of his. James climbed into his bed and was out like a light. Alex found the air-con in his room and made his room cool before jumping and bouncing onto his bed to test the springs and then hiding under the very snug duvet. He also fell asleep within seconds of his head hitting the pillow.
Does this chapter make up for not updating in a little while? I don't know when I will next update but I have coursework to do at the moment so wish me luck!
Also, to non-British readers:
Brookland is a secondary school from year seven (age 11) to year 13 (age 18. Year 12 and 13 are also called sixth form). Thought it might help with my mention.
So, what do you think? Please review
