3rd Person's POV
The two laughed as Erik drove the car out towards the lake. Evelyn had grabbed them a picnic lunch when they stopped in town, and directed him toward her favorite spot near a quiet and relatively private falls at the far end of the mass of water. It was the first time in a long time that Erik felt so at ease with another person. He allowed Evelyn to play her obnoxious music and sing along to it. It was just his luck though that she happened to be a very good singer.
Evelyn smiled at Erik as they parked the car and got out. Erik took it upon himself to grab their lunch and set it up. Evelyn felt at ease around Erik, like she could freely be open about who she was, and she had not felt this way since she had left her friend Logan up in Canada. They were a bit similar. Gruff, harsh, and angry men, with a difficult past, but Erik was far more civilised than Logan had been, and for this she was thankful.
The two of them lay out on the blanket, Evelyn kept in the car from her travels and enjoyed each other's company under the warm sun. She could tell Erik rarely, if ever did this, just forget about everything and relax.
"Erik?" She ventured to break their pleasant silence.
"Yes?" he responded. Eyes still close and face aimed toward the warm sun.
Evelyn turned on her side and looked at him curiously, "What do you plan to do? You know when its all over and Shaw is gone for good?"
Erik turned his face to the girl and stared at her thoughtfully. "I was starting to think, that I may search for others like us. Like I told Charles, he's already started identifying and the government now knows people like us exist. Our people are going to need someone on their side willing to defend them."
Evelyn nodded in understanding, "So you wish to help the others?"
"Yes, I will stop them from going through the same pain I did." He said firmly.
Evelyn brushed a strand of blonde hair behind her ear and looked at him admiringly. "Erik, I know very little about you, is it too much of a trouble if you tell me a bit about yourself?"
He was surprised by this, no one had bothered asking Erik about who he was as a person in years, the only one who knew was Charles and that was because he invaded Erik's mind. "Well. . . What would you like to know?"
"Anything you feel comfortable in telling me." She said perking up at the idea of learning more about this mysteriously handsome man.
"My parents were jewish and I survived the holocaust because of my gift." He said simply, gauging her reaction. Evelyn's eyes widened in shock as she scooted closer to listen. The girl had every intention of letting him talk. "I have come to think that my life started in that camp, when I tore the metal fence off his hinges, and caught Shaw's attention. He murdered my mother in order to unlock my gift then used me as his lab rat." He expected her to say how sorry she was, or to find a glimpse of pity in her eyes, but all he saw was sadness. "After the war I devoted my life to becoming strong enough so that I could kill him and take revenge for my family."
Evelyn took his hand in hers and placed it against her face. They were rough and firm, you could almost feel what he was talking about. Erik didn't pull his hand away, finding the simple action comforting, he never knew such a soft and gentle touch before.
"It will be over soon Erik." She assured him.
He was surprised by her. He had expected the weeping sympathy or the distasteful attitude toward revenge, but this calm and gentle acceptance, was entirely new to him. Something he never would have suspected. "And you? Who's the real Evelyn? Not the one Charles sees as his helpless baby sister."
Evelyn smiled as she thought on that question. "I am a girl who ran away when her brother and sister abandoned her. Who drove across the country in search of answers for her abnormality." Erik frowned at the term but said nothing. "I met brilliant and talented people like us and learned to use my powers with their help. I loved few and cared for many. then Charles comes back and I turn into little Ev all over again."
"You are anything but little." He told her. "You are a fine young woman with plenty to offer."
She smiled and kissed his cheek, "Thank you Erik."
Erik really looked at her without fear of his thoughts being invaded. He was taken by this young mutant, and how she seemed to view the world like he did. How she accepted the way he felt and what he was going to do. How she never judged him for it. She was not only beautiful on the outside, but she had an equally radiant inner core.
Erik sat up then without thinking pulled her to him and just kissed Evelyn. He had decided he wanted her by his side. One way or another.
