"What do you mean you took Kobra Kid?" I screeched at Viv. There was only one thing in this entire god for saken universe that was off limits to Vivian; my Kobra. Yes as in My Chemical Romance killjoy Kobra Kid. That was the name I gave my cherry red mustang with black stripes that had Cobra brand tires, meaning the centers of the rims have cobras on them, thus reminding me of the Kobra Kid killjoy jacket. Vivian was never allowed to drive the Kobra. EVER!
"Look I have to stand up to Aiden and it's a long walk to the concert." Vivian explained.
"Oh so you high jacked my baby for that piece of shit just great! Viv you are bloody fricken brilliant!" I shouted into the phone as I went to my closet to find something to wear.
"I'm sorry look I will wait for you when I get there." Shit it must really be a long walk if she hasn't even made it there yet in my car. Just great, I repeated in my head. I hung up the phone and groaned.
I dressed swiftly and ran out the door without a second thought and pulling my hair up without even brushing it.
I was five minutes from my house when Gabriel pulled up alongside me on his bike. Gabriel's expression was dark and brooding and a streak of curiosity ran through me. Wonder what has got him all broody? Then he grinned and cut the engine. Dammit I was hoping to be the cause of the brooding not the grinning.
He looked me up and down, admiration clear on his face. "All alone, baby? I find that hard to believe."
"And I find you infuriating." I countered stopping to glare at him.
"Fury can be a passionate feeling, especially with our history." He smirked.
Can please just go away. Your always there! Every time I turn around there you are!" I vented as I began walking. He followed beside me.
"Well I can honestly say this time I didn't come looking for you. I went to Pennsylvania. There's a pack up there. I wanted to find out if they'd had any rogue wolves there recently - a renegade out for human blood who might have run this way."
"Any luck?" I didn't expect him to say yes.
"Nah, I'm going down to Charleston tomorrow, to see what they have to say." He kicked the bike's engine into life. "If they hadn't scrubbed down that parking lot I might not have had to go through this. Maybe we could have picked up a scent."
"I resent that statement!" I shouted. We didn't exist as a "we".
"You're going to the concert right; let me give you a ride." After a little tug of war in my head I decided it couldn't hurt.
"Hands in the front if you wreck this thing I will kill you." I told him sharply as I threw my leg over sliding on behind him. I wrapped my arms around his midsection feeling the harsh planes beneath them. Knowing from experience just how fast he could go.
If it had been anyone else I would have ran my hands over the harsh planes marveling in the feel of them, but this was Gabriel and I no longer knew how to act around him other then snarky and sarcastic.
He cruised down a tarmac path, ignoring the shouts of an elderly man in green work pants, and brought me right into the audience. The crowd parted like the Red Sea. Some people laughed and cheered, others feigned disinterest. The guy sure knew how to make an entrance I would give him that.
"Thanks for the ride." I whispered into his ear kissing his cheek softly. I got off gracefully and turned to walk away. Before I could walk away Gabriel grabbed my hand and turned me around.
"Anytime," He smirked at me, but it didn't quite reach his eyes. I stepped away and turned to scan the crowd. I immediately saw Quince who waved and Bingo stood beside him with a raised eyebrow. I searched for Viv only seeing her head thankfully facing the opposite direction.
I weaved my way through the crowd subtly placing my hand on a guy's shoulder excusing myself or letting my chest brush their arm ever so slightly as I maneuvered towards Viv.
"So much for waiting for me," I joked with a smirk as I came up behind her. Vivian turned to look at me with pained eyes. "Vivie what's wrong?" I asked worriedly. She simply narrowed her eyes to a scene in front us. When I followed her gaze I saw Aiden, with Kelly draped across his neck.
We ended up staying at the concert till it got dark to make sure none of the amoeba saw Viv as weak. As we made our way to my car I felt as though someone was following. I ignored it till we finally wiggled our way out of the crowd. This had been much easier to maneuver through on a motorcycle. Viv headed straight for my car while I turned to see who had been following us. Turns out it was none other than Aiden's friend Tyler.
"Hello Tyler nice to see you." I smiled sweetly. "Actually could you relay a message to Aiden for me?"
"Sure Cyn."
"Tell your little friend that he needs to retract all those false rumors about my cousin, NOW!" I spoke dropping the smile and turning it into a glare.
"Cyn lets go!" Viv shouted from the car sounding agitated.
"Oh got to go, great seeing you Ty!" I waved and smiled as I jogged to my car.
"Who was that?" Viv asked once we got in the car.
"It was just a creeper." I covered turning on the radio.
I woke up the next morning with a pulsating throb in my abdomen. Damn periods. I groaned still exhausted after only getting a few hours asleep. The main reason for this would be that I was up until 2 last night. I had been on skype with my best gay friend Cole who lives in bloody New Mexico.
"Stupid time zones," I muttered getting dressed deciding the shower I took at lunch yesterday was good enough. I dressed quickly before running down stairs to get coffee and something to eat.
I was halfway through my second cup of and cleaning up my dishes from French toast when the doorbell rang.
"Is somebody going to get that?" I shouted to Viv and Esme who were sitting in the living room on their lazy asses. When neither replied, I growled irritably swiping up coffee and stalking towards the door.
"Hello officers how can I help you?" I asked giving my best good girl smile. When on the inside I was confused as hell. Why are two cops at my door? Wouldn't we all like to know?
"We'd like to speak to Vivian Gandillon," said the woman cop, and my world stopped. What the hell did Viv do?
"Okay, well right this way." I gestured to the living room. "Viv, they want to talk to you." I informed. I moved to my chair next to her.
"That's me," she said. Her words came out in a squeak.
"We'd like to ask you some questions," the woman said.
"What's wrong?" Esme asked.
"They want to ask me some questions, Mom," Vivian said. Her voice was high-pitched like a child's. Did Aden tell them about Viv or did she leave a trail? But if they had followed a trail, how would they know her name?
"Do you know a girl called Kelly Desmond?" the female officer asked. Vivian's mouth dropped open in surprise.
"Do you, hon?" Esme prompted when Vivian didn't respond.
"Uh, yes?" Vivian answered, trying to look innocent and puzzled, sure she was failing miserably. Not everyone can be as magical as me.
"Were you aware there was a break-in at her house last night?" the woman continued.
"How would I be?" Vivian asked, gaining confidence.
"Were you Ms?" the man asked me. This was crazy; there are cops in my living room quizzing me and my cousin about a break-in.
"You're not close then?" the female cop said.
"Hell, no." Viv responded.
"We think that whoever broke into the house had a grudge against Ms. Desmond," said the man.
"Why do you say that?" she asked.
"Because her room was vandalized and the rest of the house left untouched," the female officer said.
"Vandalized? How?" I questioned curious.
"We're not free to say right now," the woman answered.
"Oh, right."
"Why do you want to talk to my daughter about this?" demanded Esme.
"We understand that you might have a reason to be angry at Ms. Desmond," the male officer said to Vivian. "According to Ms. Desmond, you might be jealous because she's going out with your ex-boyfriend."
"And she thinks I'd break into her house and trash her room over that?"
"It seems likely to her, yes," answered the man.
"And what about the other girls she's pissed off?" Vivian asked, "Kelly's not exactly known for her pleasant disposition. Ask anyone."
"Nevertheless," said the policewoman, "we have to ask where you were last night between the hours of midnight and six A.M." I felt the bile rise in my throat. I could come up with a lie in less than five seconds. What I can't do is create evidence in five seconds!
"She was with me." Oh holy moon? Thank you!
My gaze jerked to the living room door with relief. Gabriel stood there, his hands in his jeans pockets.
Esme started to speak, but Gabriel cut her off. "I'm sorry, Esme. We meant to tell you about us at a more convenient time. We spent the night at my apartment." And then my lungs once again held air.
Esme rose to the occasion. "Gabriel! I trusted you." Did I mention thank you?
Vivian grabbed at the alibi; what else could she do?
"As you can see," she pointed out boldly. "I'm not pining for my ex-boyfriend."
"Can anyone confirm your story?" asked the male officer. Vivian couldn't miss the disapproval in his eyes.
"Ask Bucky Dideron," Gabriel suggested. "He's my downstairs neighbor. He saw us leave early this morning. He complained we'd kept him up half the night."
Vivian blushed furiously. While the cops took Gabriel's and Bucky's names and addresses, then left after promising they would get back in touch if they had any more questions.
"What the hell is going on?" Esme asked Vivian when the door closed behind the police.
"Don't we all want to know?" I sneered annoyed because I to was confused.
"Look, I had a few drinks. I made a mistake, okay?" Vivian headed for the kitchen to pour a cup of coffee and I followed.
Esme followed her to though. "That's a hell of a mistake."
Vivian turned away, but Esme walked around her to stay in Vivian's face. "I take it you really were in that girl's house." Vivian didn't answer.
"Are you crazy?" Esme screamed. "Don't we have enough problems? Did you know about this?" She turned to me accusingly.
"No, no I did not." I spoke.
"Let me speak with Vivian," Gabriel said. I almost didn't hear him enter.
"I'll speak to my own daughter, thank you," Esme answered. "This is family business."
"When the police are involved, it's pack business," Gabriel said. "Go call Bucky." His eyes glittered as he stared Esme down without blinking.
"Go on Esme I will stay with Viv and fill you in later," I glared at Gabriel and his stance. He looked as if he would spring on at her if she refused and I hate that.
"Have it your way," Esme finally spat, and stormed off.
"You got here fast," Vivian said.
"I was already on my way to see Rudy, as it happens. Thomas almost knocked me off my feet." I noticed that the glitter in his eyes seemed more like humor now. "I didn't know an alibi was needed, but I'm glad to help out."
"Well, you needn't have come up with such a disgusting one." She sat down and tried to ignore him.
I hopped on the counter behind Viv with a grin, "I thought it was hilarious."
"The cops were right, weren't they? You were jealous."
"Homo sapiens can be very attractive," he said, sitting at the table with Viv facing me. I had expected him to chastise her. Viv did to as she raised her eyebrows in surprise but didn't say a word.
"The need to dominate is bred into us," Gabriel continued, "and they are easy to dominate. It's seductive, this power over them. And they're so fragile; there are those you almost want to protect."
He laughed softly. With one fluid action all the harshness had left him and had been replaced with a light. A light I thought had long ago been extinguished.
"But they're dangerous," Gabriel said. "They're desperately afraid of things they can't understand, and there are more of them than us. They can't fight us fairly so they gang up on us with fire and blades, or betray us from the shadows with silver bullets."
"Vivian, you can't force him to love you if he's chosen elsewhere. You have to let go. You can't confuse the desire to dominate and protect with love. If you continue this way you'll end up hurting this girl, and the police already have you connected with her. Or worse, you'll give yourself away to the boy; I swear to the Moon, he'll be the death of you."
"I thought he loved me," was all she could say to Gabriel. "Then he went off with her."
"Vivian, it's our job to think people love us, but the key is to avoid letting it consume you." Gabriel responded.
Next chapter will be longer and will include a pack meeting! My favorite chapters to write are the meetings. New follows and review thank you list will be posted then as well.
