"You're going to do what?" I asked in disbelief.
"Howl." Scott repeated. "Stiles is part of my pack. If I howl, he'll hear me." Scott explained.
"And will Genim howl back?" I asked slowly. I hope not.
"No," Isaac reassured me. "Stiles is human. He isn't like us."
"If Genim can't howl back then what would be the point of you howling in the first place?" I frowned.
"So that he knows that we're coming for him." Scott explained.
"But you said that Deucalion is like you. If you howl then he'll hear you too and know that your coming.." I told him.
"Why don't we just go to the police station and talk to his dad?" Isaac suggested. "Stiles' dad put a tracker on his phone after the nogitsune incident, remember? He'll be able to tell us exactly where Stiles is and save us a lot of time." John.
"John's alive too?" I asked in disbelief. Was anything that my mother said to me true?
"Yes." Scott nodded.
"Was there even an accident?" I seethed in anger.
"No." Scott shook his head. Everything she told me was a lie.
"What happened?" I asked finally. I need to know what they were told. How did they think I died?
"You got sick." he explained. "Really sick. You were in the hospital. Stiles was with you, but his dad was at work. Your monitor said that your heart had stopped. Stiles was with you. They took him out of the room and tried everything they could but you were dead."
"But I'm not dead." I muttered. "How did they pull it off?"
"I don't know." Scot shook his head. "But I do know that the sooner the Sheriff finds out your still alive, the better."
"Well that settles it then." Isaac grinned. "We're headed to the police station." Scott lead the way outside. Genim's jeep was still in the parking space. Isaac got in the back and Scott got in the drivers seat. I got in the passenger seat and sat quietly while Scott started the jeep and backed out of the driveway.
I can't believe she lied to me. She made me think my son and husband were dead. But why? Didn't she want her grandson in her life? Was she going to do the same thing to Dylan? Was she going to wait until he was nine, like she did with Genim before making him think that I was dead? How did she do it? How could she get me out of town without someone noticing that I wasn't dead? What about my friend who worked at the hospital? Did she think I was dead too? I never saw her after that day. I left town. Why did I leave town? I have gaps in my memory. That has to be her doing.
I was so lost in thought that I hadn't even realized we had pulled into the police station parking lot. Silently, I followed the two teenagers inside. Scott seemed to know exactly where he was going. This place hadn't changed a bit. I had vague memories of this place from when Genim was younger. Scott and Isaac had disappeared into a small office. I felt a my stomach churn. He's in there. Literally, only thirty seconds away. It's been years since I've seen his warm, smiling face. I took a deep breath before taking a step into his office. I felt my heart skip. There he was, standing at his desk with his face lowered. I watched his hands shuffle through the papers on his desk. He grunted in frustration. He ruffled through the items in his desk drawers until he found what he needed. His phone. He held it up triumphantly for Scott to see and lifted his head. His eyes locked with mine and his face fell. He dropped his phone on his desk, not breaking eye contact.
"Claudia?" he whimpered.
