A/N: Here, take a chapter. Anyway not the best but I like how the ending is. Sorry if Midorima is written horribly I find his awkwardness almost too awkward to write well.
-Chapter 10-
Fate and Destiny
Midorima sighed pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose. Takao sat beside him in the control room tapping away at a keyboard pausing every 30 seconds or so to flick something on the switchboard sitting across the back of the desk. The raven watched the screens with intensity only seen in the teen when in battle otherwise his lack of seriousness was incredibly disturbing. Midorima himself just say back and watched the strategist at work. He had no reason to do anything more Takao despite his general idiocy had a mind for strategy unmatched by any other in the kingdom.
"Kimura swerve your group around to the east about 30 degrees, finish cutting off their central attack." Takao's voice rang through the room as he spoke clearly into the microphone of his orange and white headset typing in even more commands. Midorima adjusted his own headset making sure the microphone was as far from his mouth as humanly possible to avoid the commanders hearing his unnecessarily loud breathing.
"Roger that Hawk." The quietest commander's voice came back loud and clear over the wireless link prompting Takao to hum in approval.
"There really is no reason to worry Takao, Cancers are ranked first today." Midorima said fiddling with a pair of scissors his lucky item of the day. The raven just shot the Wind king a glare out the corner of his eye whilst zooming in on Ootsubo's position on the battlefield.
"Fate doesn't decide wars Shin-chan." Takao spoke calmly flicking his hand in a dismissive manner towards the king.
"When my fate is good the kingdom will prosper, Kuroko has no chance of winning this battle." The emerald-eyed male huffed glaring at the back of Takao's head in annoyance at being dismissed by his second-in-command.
"The world isn't made around fate and destiny." Grey-blue eyes don't leave the screens the tip of Takao's tongue stuck out the left corner of his mouth in concentration. Thin pianists fingers fly across the keyboards swirls of wind magic glowing at the tips. The raven loses himself in the battle treating it like a particular challenging game of shoji. Midorima feels very alone without the schemers familiar playful jibes at his naturally awkward nature.
"I shall take my leave Takao, do not fail me." Midorima removes his headset placing it on a hook above the desk. Takao responded with a simple bob of his head and a wave over the shoulder remaining focused on the task at hand. Soft footfalls carried the green-haired wind-mage away from the strategist shutting the door behind him slipping into place with a barely noticeable click. It pained him to admit it but Takao was his most trusted friend and ally, even if he was incredibly annoying. The hawk-eyed strategist was invaluable and incredibly key to the kingdom's success, not as crucial as luck but still priceless.
The stars had aligned so that their victory was ensured. Kuroko and his allies could not have chosen a worse time to attack. The Shadow-kingdom would get obliterated. That was just the destiny fate had chosen for them. Midorima couldn't change that.
-Consumed by Shadows-
"Izuki, push Kagami's head down his hair's too obvious." Riko's voice rang loud and clear through Izuki's earpiece the pun loving teen quickly signalling to Mitobe who shoved the redhead's head down as gently as possible.
"Done, and why were you looking at Kagami's head. Thinking he needs new shampoo?' Riko audibly sighed on the other end of the line. Izuki just chuckled dislodging some of the leaves that had gotten caught in his hair.
The Shadow guard crouched behind a line of high bushes hidden within the shadows of large trees. Most of them were well hidden having black or brown hair and moderate builds. Mitobe even managed to blend in thanks to his quiet nature. Kagami on the other hand stood out like a sore thumb scarlet hair reflecting any light that came its way. It also didn't help that the fire-mage was exuding an aura of heat energy tiny wisps of flame curling off his body every few seconds in excitement. Sometimes the redhead's pre-battle adrenaline rush was useful but whilst trying to conceal their presence the lack of control over his powers when excited was incredibly irritating.
Before them the battle raged, Swords, shields, arrows, knives and spears glinted in the sunlight some already dripping with blood. Bursts of magic flew around the field water and fire, wind and earth, shadow and light. Neither side had an obvious advantage and it was better to let the battle play out without the specialised unit if it could be done. However, ever so slowly the Wind kingdom forces were pushing back their allies prompting Kagami to twitch in anticipation crimson eyes narrowed wisps of fire constantly swirling around his fingertips.
"Mobilize, aim for the stragglers." Riko's voice commanded over the line prompting Izuki to jump slightly not having expected the order so soon.
"Aye, Aye captain." Izuki responded making eye contact with each Shadow guard members in turn finishing with Kagami who started a staring contest with the eagle-eyed strategist.
"We're attacking, attack their back flank. No Kagami that does not mean charge into everything blindly." Kagami visibly deflated looking at Izuki with an expression somewhere along the lines of 'are you fucking kidding me?' With that the group of seven leapt into action splitting in half to circle around both sides of the main front meeting up again behind the Wind kingdom lines still hidden within the shadows.
Then they leapt. Kagami moved to take down the first adversary he came across dispatching of them with a swift blow to the neck. Koga just set up a wall of earth around himself and Mitobe the Water-Shadow mix-mage taking over the attack whipping Wind soldiers down from behind with waves of water. Furihata, Fukuda and Kawahara took on opponents best they could, working side by side within a circle of enemies water, wind and fire swirling around the trio in a protective barrier around the trio. Izuki darted around using his Wind magic for extra speed and Shadow for concealment throwing kunai at every available opportunity taking down mages before they could register someone was even there. Together the guard worked their way forward from the back. Now the Shadow kingdom would definitely be in with a fighting chance.
-Consumed by Shadows-
"Miyaji take a small group of mix-mages and circle around to the back. Take down the Shadow guard." Takao nearly growled into the microphone clicking furiously to zoom in on the back of the Wind Kingdom's lines. The big redhead was the main problem cutting down soldiers left and right burning the ones he couldn't reach with his katana. So much for Midorima's luck, at this rate unless Miyaji could shut down the Shadow guard unit they would definitely loose.
Wisps of shadow and wind danced at his fingertips as they raced across the keyboard. His powers itched to be used in a way they hadn't been for well over a year. Being such an adept strategist meant he was rarely allowed onto the battlefield despite his status as one of the most powerful mages in the Wind kingdom. Midorima may have also been a tiny bit overprotective of the strategist the king said it was because he was invaluable to war efforts Takao suspected Midorima saw him as one of his closest friends ahem acquaintances.
"On it Hawk." Screen Miyaji made a swift turn signalling with his sword for a small group of troops to follow him before darting into the tree line. Takao just smirked letting the battlefield camera follow Miyaji through the trees popping out behind their main lines blond commander jumping straight at the Shadow kingdom's guard commander (or apparent guard commander from what he'd seen.) That's when he lost signal on the camera following Miyaji thanks to a burst of flame from what Takao believed to be the large redhead burning everything to the ground.
"Shit!" Takao's head promptly collided with the keyboard sending a large number of letters flying across one of the screens. The last thing he needed was for one of the main cameras to shut down in the middle of a crucial battle. Cameras were a strategists lifeline as soon as one went down it made his job about ten times harder than usual, and be assured trying to strategize for an entire battle while it's actually happening is practically impossible unless you can think of brilliant plans in a split second and gather information whilst creating said plan still in a split second.
"Ootsubo, Kimura, Miyaji one of the cameras is down if I tell you something stupid feel free to not go ahead with it." The raven actually did growl this time frantically typing and clicking away desperately trying to bring the camera back online if it was even salvageable after being seared to death. Three hums of acknowledgement came back from the other end of the line. At least they were listening to him unlike the bastard of a camera that refused to do anything but static.
"DAMMIT!"
A/N: YAY! I pissed off Takao now everyone's gonna die. Anyway have fun with the cliffhanger. If you enjoyed please follow favourite and review as it inspires me to write more. Also Thankyou so very much for the 50 follows it's the most support I've ever gotten on a story (noting that I have written more fanfics than are currently up but given up after a couple of chapter on all of them).
