~Chapter 8~
3rd person's POV
2:00 a.m. It was 2 a.m. The past events flowed into Annabeth's mind. Percy, Percy, Percy, she tutted as she thought about him. That boy loves to cross my mind all the time. It was still early in the morning, but she couldn't sleep. She got up from her bed and winced at the artic cold hardwood floors. She dashed to the door and sighed as she warmed her feet in the carpet hallway. She decided to get a glass of warm milk so she could fall asleep easier. She silently stepped on the stairs that lead to the kitchen and saw someone.
Her father.
He was leaning his head on the paper filled counter and his hair was pointed in all directions. Papers were everywhere, on the stove, the chairs, his face. She thought on whether or not she should wake him up. She decided against it, after all, it was only Saturday morning.
She downed her milk and wiped her milk mustache off her lips. She looked at her father one last time. Her heart clenched seeing as how obsessed he was with his job. She decided to help him get to the bedroom so that he would sleep better.
She took one arm and looped it around her shoulder and led him up the stairs. "Athena." He muttered under his breath. Annabeth sub-consciously smiled at her father. She opened their bedroom door and laid him on the bed and put the blanket over him. Her father rolled over and put an arm around his wife. She smiled at how loving her parents looked together. She hoped that one day, she and Percy could be like this. She planted a kiss over each of her parent's heads. "Good night Annabeth." Her mother smiled.
She smiled back and closed the door quietly. She got back in her bed and sighed in content. She slept pleasantly for the rest of the morning.
~Later on that day~
"Mom, do you know where the yearbooks are?" Annabeth asked. "It's in the attic." Her mother answered. "Thanks mom." Annabeth replied. She raced up the stairs into the attic and looked around.
God, this place is so creepy. Ah! There it is, she thought. She went through the box and got the yearbook out. She went in to her room and looked at it. She could faintly remember a Rachel somewhere in her memories, she could possibly be in a different class.
She gasped.
"Oh my God!" Her hands flew to her mouth, as she backed up on the bed, closing the yearbook. She panted, fanning herself. She reopened the book reading the text that followed. "Romance is in the air, blah, blah, blah." She gasped again, but softer. There was a picture of Percy and...her...kissing.
"Rachel!" Percy shouted in a whispering my God, she's here? Why here? Shit, I've got to get out of here before she sees me, he thought, sneaking out of the restaurant stealthily. "Oh, thank God." Percy sighed in relief, after getting in his car and starting it up.
"Annabeth." Percy said. "Percy?" Annabeth questioned. "Hey, uhm, could we hang out, o-or something? I, uh, yeah." Percy stuttered, pulling his shirt and fanning himself. Annabeth looked behind her. "Uh, sure, I guess." She said blushing slightly. "Cool place you got." He said, stepping inside.
"Thanks. So, do you want a drink or something? My mom's out somewhere and my dad's with a friend." She admitted, blushing more. "You have some water or soda or something?" Percy asked. "Well, that certainly narrows it down," She said, opening the refrigerator door."-we have, Sprite, milk, orange juice, and some water. Take your pick." She said.
"I'll take the Sprite." He said. "Thanks." He said. "No problem." She replied. As he drank, she got her own drink. A disturbing noise filled the room. Annabeth looked at him skeptically and raised an eyebrow.
"Sprite makes me burp." He explained, blushing a little. "Nice manners." She muttered. "Excuse me." He said. She scoffed. "So...What do you wanna do?" She asked. "Well, we could go somewhere..." Percy said. "Such as..?" Annabeth asked. "Laser tag." Percy said, his eyes brightening up.
"Laser tag?" Annabeth said, raising and eyebrow. "Laser tag." Percy said in all seriousness. "I don't know." She said. "Come on, it'll be fun." He said, smiling his trademark smirk.
Her heart melted and all she wanted to do was kiss his lips ever so fiercely. He leaned in more, closing her in. "I bet I can make it fun for you." He whispered huskily. Annabeth felt weak at the knees and was utterly amazed she hadn't fell. "O-oh...really? H-how so?" She replied weakly.
Percy leaned in closer, and so did Annabeth. Their lips were oh-so-close to touching when Malcolm burst through the front door. "Oh my God! Malcolm!" Annabeth shrieked. "Oh, Beth, I just did the most hilarious prank eve-oh hey Perce! Wassup, man!" Malcolm greeted. "Oh, hey, Malcolm. Say, would you wanna join us for laser tag?" Percy smiled back.
"Oh, totally! That sounds awesome, just let me go change, cause, uh, my tightie whities aren't so white anymore after the whole chase." Malcolm said, running up the stairs, leaving the two friends by themselves.
"So..." Annabeth said. "So..." Percy replied. Annabeth let out a fake laugh while Percy smiled a fake smile. God, you're so dumb! You're still getting over your heartbreak, what are you doing, flirting and almost kissing one of your friends, Percy screamed in his head.
Although, those were Percy's thoughts, Annabeth was mad because of a different thing. Damn you Malcolm! We were so close to kissing! His lips were so full and so close to my own thin lips, Annabeth thought and sighed inwardly.
"Alright! Ready to go!" Malcolm said. Annabeth was letting a string of curses run free in her mind while Percy was silently thanking him as they headed to the car.
