A/N- Thank you all for the lovely reviews! I love you all!
Enjoy~
Frantically running around the house, I begin to get myself ready for Ross. We're meeting by the meadow at midnight. Butterflies crowd my stomach as I think of the night ahead. Will it just be a friendly night together, or will it turn into something more?
I put on heavy makeup and tease my hair like I did the first time I met Ross. I look in the mirror, and I don't see Madge. Madge is gone. The girl I see now is confident and whole. She's not the insecure and broken girl I've come to grow used to.
Sprinting back to my room, I throw on a simple pair of skinny jeans and a tight black top. Looking in my bedroom mirror, I realize that the top I'm wearing is pretty revealing. Honestly, I really don't care. I slip on my favorite pair of black flats, and I'm ready to go.
I dash down the stairs, and I'm out the front door in a flash. I'm not home a lot nowadays. I try to stay away as much as I can.
As I'm walking to the meadow, I realize that it's still pretty early. I was so nervous about Ross that I didn't even notice the time. I don't want to go home, so I decide to wander around town until it's closer to midnight.
I walk past the bakery, and I'm drawn to it. I feel a need to go inside, so I do. When I enter, the bell tinkles. I am greeted by a bewildered Patrick behind the counter.
"Hey," I breathe.
"Hey," he replies.
The tension in the room is obvious. I saunter closer to the counter, staring at the pastries. I look at everything in the room except Patrick. I honestly don't know why I came here.
"You look different," he blurts out.
I gaze at him for a second and then focus my attention back onto the pastries.
"Is it a good different," I ask.
His reply is slow, but he eventually says, "Yes."
We both fall into another uneasy silence. I lean on the counter, trying to make myself more comfortable in this extremely uncomfortable situation.
"Listen," I begin, "I hate how our friendship ended."
"I do, too," he mumbles.
I straighten myself up and stare right into his bright blue eyes.
"Can we start over," I ask. "Like none of it ever happened?"
"I would like that," he says with a smile.
I smile back at him, loving how this conversation is turning out.
"I missed you," I say.
"I missed you, too," he says as he affectionately tucks my hair behind my ear.
My focus is on the floor as I say, "I still can't be your girlfriend, though. I'm sorry."
His hand quickly retracts as he laughs awkwardly.
"I should've known," he sighs.
"It's not you," I say quickly. "It's just that I've met somebody."
"He's a very lucky guy."
I blush.
"Thank you, Patrick. You're really sweet, and any girl would be lucky to have you."
"Thanks, Madge," he says with a grin. "Although, you don't really look like Madge today."
"I've changed," I say simply.
We exchange friendly banter for a long time, and I am so grateful for his company. I hadn't realized how much I missed him. Talking to him again, though, I remember how much I care about him.
I glance at the clock hanging on the wall of the bakery and realize that it's getting pretty late. I want to be early to me and Ross' rendezvous.
"It's been wonderful talking to you, but I have to go," I say politely.
"We'll have to do this again," he responds.
Patrick hugs me before I go, and he holds onto me for a little too long.
Breaking out of the embrace, I say, "Goodbye."
Patrick says goodbye, too, as I mosey out of the bakery.
It's so nice that Patrick and I made amends. I didn't realize how much I had missed Patrick. He was one of my good friends, and I'm really glad I have him back.
I smile as I begin to walk to the meadow.
…
I become anxious as I wait in the meadow for Ross. I lie down in the cool grass and stare at the myriad of stars glittering above my head.
I must have fallen asleep because I wake up to someone tapping my shoulder. I open my eyes to see the smiling face of Ross. I feel my cheeks heat up. I can't believe I fell asleep!
"Hey," he whispers.
"Hi," I say.
"I'm sorry I woke you up."
I blush again.
"No worries! I can't believe I fell asleep," I say.
"Don't worry about it," Ross replies. "You look quite adorable while you sleep."
My cheeks heat up once again while I laugh.
No one speaks a word for a few moments while I gaze into his gray eyes, and he gazes into my blue ones.
"What do you want to do," Ross asks.
"Let's watch the stars," I whisper.
Ross smiles as he responds, "I would love to."
He lies next to me, very close. His hand is touching mine, and I'm tempted to hold it. Instead of holding his hand, I hold my own hand to resist the temptation.
"The sky is beautiful tonight," he whispers to me.
"It is."
"Almost as beautiful as you."
I smile to the stars.
"You're handsome yourself," I whisper back.
Ross doesn't answer for quite a bit. I turn my head away from the sky to look at him. He continues to stare at the stars. I can tell he's thinking about something.
"What're you thinking about," I ask quietly, my voice barely above a whisper.
"You," he replies.
"What about me?"
"Felicity," he whispers as he looks at me, "you've been on my mind ever since I met you."
I almost tell him that my name is actually Madge, but I remember my lie. I bite my tongue.
"I've been thinking about you, too," I reply honestly.
"Really?"
"Yeah."
He grins at me and returns his focus to the stars. I do the same.
"You really are beautiful, you know," he says in a soft voice.
"And you're handsome," I respond.
He turns his attention back to me, and I turn mine back to him.
"You would be beautiful without any makeup," he says as he twirls a lock of my hair around his finger. This simple contact makes my stomach do a somersault.
"You've never seen me without makeup," I say absentmindedly.
His hand goes from twirling my hair to cupping my face.
"With or without makeup, I know you would still be beautiful."
I smile while I try not to think about his hand that is currently resting on my cheek. If only he knew that I covered the bruises and marks left by my father with makeup. If only he knew that he was touching my bruises right now, and he didn't even know it.
"Thank you," I whisper back.
We get lost in each other's eyes again.
Ross inches closer to me, and butterflies flutter in my stomach. I know what comes next, and I'm actually excited.
He leans into me, and his lips are swiftly on mine. He kisses me passionately. I kiss him back with as much intensity as I can muster. I snake my arms around his neck while his hands get tangled in my hair.
One of his hands leaves my hair and settles on my hipbone. I don't really notice until his hand leaves my hipbone and maneuvers under my shirt. I break our kiss quickly, and his hand retreats just as fast.
"Too fast," I pant, referring to his hand.
"I'm sorry," Ross pants back. "I don't know what got into me."
"It's ok," I reply, and I place one final kiss on his lips.
I'm surprised that I'm actually sensing a spark growing between me and Ross. I can feel it, and I believe Ross can feel it, too.
"Hey, Felicity?"
"Yeah?"
"Will you be my girlfriend?"
His question takes me by surprise, so I don't answer right away.
"I know we just met, but I'm crazy about you," he continues.
"Yes," I reply, surprising us both.
We both smile at each other.
"Yes, yes, yes," I repeat. "Now kiss me."
He grins and follows my orders.
We kiss for a long time.
I eventually fall asleep on his chest, listening to his heartbeat.
