New chapter YAY!
Peeta's POV
I don't think I can last the whole night without kissing Katniss; especially when she's dressed like she is and getting hungry looks from men all over the club. I have this jealousy burning through me and an insatiable need to make it known to everyone in this club that she's mine and mine ONLY. Of course, I can't because 1) she isn't mine and 2) I don't think I have the guts. After having a bit of liquid courage in me I work up the courage to ask her to dance.
I don't think I could be more happy than at the moment in which she said she'd love to. My heart was beating so frantically when we started to dance that I was positive that she could hear it. When she started to move against me Peeta Jr. started to get excited. I willed him to calm down because I was positive that Katniss would pull away but imagine my surprise when she started to tease me. I wanted to groan out in frustration, I needed to kiss her at least once- ok maybe more than once but you get the idea. I feel drunk on lust and something else I can't identify.
"Katniss" I say my voice coming out husky.
"Yeah?" Her breathless voice asks and I want to claim her as mine at the very moment. I takes all my strength to get the next sentence out without kissing her or you know; anything.
"Look at me" I command so that I could look into her beautiful grey eyes.
Something inside me snaps and I can't take it any longer. I lean in and so does she. Our lips meet and it's like nothing I've ever experienced. It's so many emotions and feelings running through me I almost can't take it. This has to be the best kiss out of all kisses. Her lips are soft and plump and oh so good. Things are getting heated and all of a sudden she's ripped away from me. I instantly sober up when I see the person who ripped us apart. It takes me a moment to place him but when I do, I wish I hadn't. Fury spreads through my entire being and I want to break something preferably Gale Hawthorne's face.
~Flashback~
It was senior year of high school and things couldn't have been better; mom was long gone and so were my bruises and beatings. My girlfriend of a year, Cashmere, (Or Cassie as I called her) was the best thing ever; loyal, sweet, attentive, pretty. All this and more. I walked into my teacher's class to talk to him only to walk in on Cashmere and Gale kissing passionately. Both were emitting groans and moans while I stood frozen; watching my friend and girlfriend devouring each other's faces. My heart was broken but of course I had to be strong. I broke up with her and while she was 'oh so heartbroken', I knew better than to believe the bull she was trying to tell me. As for Gale, he avoided me at all costs after my breakup with Cashmere. I knew for certain that he had watched me walk into that dread classroom.
~End of flashback~
To say that I never wanted to see Gale or Cashmere again was an understatement. If I never saw them again, it would be too soon. I wondered what she and Gale had had between them but I guess I was about to find out soon as we were being dragged out by a very angry Gale.
Katniss's POV
As soon as we were outside, I turned to Gale angrily. He interrupted my make out session with Peeta the God Mellark! AND he followed me! AND- My thoughts were stopped by the sound of Gale's voice.
"What the hell Katniss? What are you doing with him?" He says with jealousy and anger laced into his tone.
"First of all what are you doing here?" I ask
"I came to win you back, baby"
I snort and let out a bark of bitter laughter.
"You think you can win me back after cheating on me with my so called 'best friend'? Fat chance, now get lost so Peeta and I can enjoy the rest of the night. Together." I add
Gale turns to Peeta and while the jealousy and rage is still present there is also remorse.
"Peeta- dude listen-"
He's cut off by Peeta slamming him into the wall. "Don't. Say. Another. Fucking. Word. To. Me. Asshole" He says pronouncing each word clearly.
Gale's face is suddenly very dark and hard. He throws a punch at Peeta and hits him square in the jaw. Peeta quickly retaliates and hits him with more force causing a sickening crack to be heard when his fist connects with his face. I can see that this is going to turn out very badly very soon so without thinking I step in between the boys when Gale is about to punch Peeta once more. I soon realize this was a mistake as Gale was not able to stop his fist in time. He ends up hitting me with so much force in the head that I fall back onto the sidewalk and I hear a horrible crack. I feel something thick oozing from the back of my head before I see spots in my vision. I hear Peeta yell at Gale yet they sound so distant. Before I drift off, I feel a pair of arms wrap around me and Peeta whispers "Stay with me Katniss, I need you. Always."
