Cobra had a very good reason for why he stayed by the illusion mage's side, not only did he owe his life to him because he saved him and Angel from Brain, but also as a way to try and make up for the past. You see he wasn't always friends with the guy, quite the opposite really, he hated him and went out of his way to prove it to the mage on a daily basis.
He knew his hatred was irrational but he couldn't help it. Back in the early days when he couldn't control his hearing magic, Midnight's thoughts constantly reminded him of the dark days in the tower. He knew it wasn't his fault, heck the whole guild was plagued by nightmares, but Midnight seemed like the easiest target for his hatred. Him being the youngest, and at the time the weakest , he'd gotten the duel haired mage into more trouble then he could count - and more scars then he liked to think about.
He remembered one time where he blamed him for the failure of an important mission that they'd been planning for weeks. Brain was furious (he thought he was actually going to kill them all), that's when he had the great idea to blame it on midnight, and no one liked him any way so it was a perfect plan. He'd never forget how the other mages screams kept the whole guild up that night. Midnight was never the same after that.
After that night, Midnight became the perfect guild member, training at all hours of the night to become the best and in a few months he succeeded at that goal. The look on his face (and all the others) when Midnight took them all down in their group training session must have been hilarious. He's realised that he was the reason for Midnight ending up like this and the guilt has been playing on his mind all this time.
That's why he couldn't understand why he saved him, sure they got him off Nirvana, but even if they hadn't than the council would of made sure he didn't die, so why? Why did Midnight save the man that had made his life hell before he acquired his magic and was now the reason that he used his reflector on impulse. He wondered what brain used to do to the Mage when he was took him.
Cobra was broken out of his thoughts by the sound of the door opening.
"The masters out at the moment" Angel sighs sitting on the vacant chair. "Any change?" She asks.
Lucy shook her head. Cobra's full attention was now on the injured mage and he wondered how long he had been spaced out for. It couldn't of been that long, other wise Lucy would have snapped him out of it. He looked round the room. At least there wasn't any more magic hurtling round the room - this was an improvement on the last few times that Midnight had been awake. A barely audible noise caught his attention, that's when he noticed Midnight shivering slightly.
"Midnight?" He questioned. Red eyes met his own. "Do you know were you are?"
Midnight gave a slight nod.
Well that was a good sign. Sighing he knew he had to ask, "do you remember what happened?" The other man shuddered before slowly nodding.
"Do you want anything?" Lucy asks. Yet another head shake. It seemed the mage didn't want to speak to them - well who could blame him?
~Midnight~
While he some what appreciated all the questions as they were interrupting his darker thoughts, he was getting quite annoyed with them at the same time. He wanted them to be quiet, but at the same time he wanted them to be as loud as possible as he really needed the distraction.
Sometimes he couldn't tell if his thoughts were really memories or just a cruel trick that his mind was playing on him, though either way the pain was real. Whether they were fake memories or not he could still feel everything that occurred in them. The latest nightmare was of someone carving runes into his skin. He could feel every where the blade cut, thankfully he didn't think this one was real, but the cold feeling of the knife would stay with him for a while.
Trembling at his latest thoughts, he surveyed the room. The other three occupants seemed to be having a discussion about him like he wasn't even there. Though he supposed they would think that with the un specified amount of time that he'd been asleep for. He supposed he should ask how long exactly he ha been asleep for but , though for now he was content just watching them talk amongst themselves.
He couldn't quite understand the hushed whispers but the few words he could make out were his name and what to tell master Makorov. He wondered where the man was - and for that matter- why the guild was so quiet. It didn't seem like the same guild at all, however thinking about it now, he had no idea were this room was. He had obviously assumed it was the guild's hospital but he'd been in that before when he first came and this room was completely different. It seemed more clinical then the other.
He had escaped hadn't he? He must have done as there was no way Zero would allow this comfort so it had to be real, yet why did it seem so different to the Fairy Tail he knew. Surely his disappearance couldn't cause such a stir in the guild. They hated him didn't they? He could feel himself slipping, the fear tainting his vision until all he could see was the enemy.
He needed to escape. Trying to move off the bed only sent shock waves of pain through his battered body. White spots danced across his vision. He felt two hands gently trying to push him back on the bed. This only made him panic more.
"Midnight calm down it's us" a voice rang out. It did sound familiar.
Then it slowly came back to him "Cobra?" He asked looking frantically round. Then he saw them, Lucy, Cobra and Angel standing at the side of the bed. Could this be another illusion. No Zero didn't know about Lucy (or at least he was thought that he didn't know about her). That's when he started to calm down and slowly let their words comfort him.
