Epilogue 18 months

Jane takes a big breath in as she hears the alarm go off to her left. She drags a warm nose along the soft skin of Maura's neck before leaving a tender kiss on the pulse point. A firm squeeze to the sleeping doctor before she turns over to silence the alarm. She stays lying on her back contemplating the ceiling, stretching her toes in the toasty sheets. Maura lets her eyes flutter open slowly and creeps her fingers over the warm sheets to circle Jane's wrist, rubbing the top of her wrist with her thumb. The only sound is twin breaths evenly going in and out.

"I'm nervous." Maura says on a breath out.

Jane turns her head to gaze at the doctor's profile. "Me, too."

She turns her body fully and lays a warm hand on a pregnant belly barely covered by an old Boston PD t-shirt. Smiling at her wife, Jane carefully peels the t-shirt upwards and lays a warm cheek on the taut bare skin there.

"Hey baby, baby. You are coming out today and on Valentine's Day no less. We get to meet our love on a day dedicated to love. We are so excited to have you join our family." Jane whispers into the skin. She feels a faint kick on her cheek and can't help but leave another kiss.

Maura is scheduled for a C-section later that morning because little Packard John Rizzoli-Isles is breech and they want everyone coming out safe and sound. It's an added bonus that this will be the best Valentine's Day gift ever.

Maura runs fingers through unruly curls eliciting a contented hum from her wife. "We are going to be moms by this time tomorrow. A little boy will be looking to us for everything. I am so very excited but so nervous. What if everything doesn't go OK? What if I am a terrible mother?" Maura murmurs into the air.

Jane leaves one last kiss on a grumbling belly, pulls the shirt down gently and crawls up Maura's body. She nuzzles a perky breast causing a giggle from her wife and then she settles on her elbow, propped up so she can look Maura in the eye.

"Maura, I don't know if we will be good at this. Besides you don't like what ifs."

Maura leans up and leaves a smiley kiss on Jane's mouth. "What ifs are not scientific, baby."

"But…we love each other so much, and we want this so much and we love this baby so much already…so I am choosing to have faith in us. I cannot wait to hold that little man in my arms and kiss you and I can already picture your huge smile and…" Jane is stopped by Maura's lips in a fierce kiss. The doctor wraps her arms around her wife and pulls her down so that she can deepen the kiss into a tangle of tongues and teeth.

"Thank you, sweetie. I trust us too. Now what I would like to do is have that bath I was promised." Maura whispers hotly into a sensitive ear.

"I like that thought very much. Happy Valentine's Day, sweetie."
