Hailey was not thrilled to be on this extraction squad. She was paired with Connor, one of the most ornery people she had ever met. More importantly, the time difference between Long Island Sound and Northern California was three hours! Even if it was only 3 in the afternoon here, it was 6 at Camp Half-Blood which meant by the time they got back, dinner would be over!

"We're here," Connor's words instantly focused Hailey. They were on a mission. It was no time to think about food. The chariot rumbled as it hit the ground or maybe it was her stomach grumbling.

"You might not want to be so serious. We're supposed to be a welcome committee, not FBI agents," Hailey laughed at the look on Connor's face as they walked to the front door.

"You'll do the talking," Connor ordered as he rang the doorbell. Hailey shrugged. As they walked into the living room, Connor pasted on a smile, making him look like his siblings. Inside were a Hispanic looking guy and two auras. A few moments later, a girl carrying a backpack entered from the hallway. She was probably the demigod, Haven.

"We are Hailey and Connor, Haven's going to camp with us this summer," Hailey said as she snapped her fingers. A breeze radiated from them.

"I remember Haven mentioning that once," the Hispanic boy said dreamily. The dark haired girl stared at Hailey in alarm. Hailey responded with a look that said: play along or else.

"Come on Haven. We should get going if we want to get to camp in time!" Connor said lightly. He should really consider joining the theatre, this acting of his was great! Hailey smiled expectantly.

Hailey's stomach complained with hunger. They had gotten off the ground and were flying back across the country. As she dug through her backpack for a snack, Haven started to talk.

"So, is anyone going to explain what's going on here?" She called from below. She was seated criss-cross-applesauce on the floor of the chariot.

Connor stood silently as he steered the Pegasi. Hailey mentally screamed at him for obviously imparting the task to her.

"Have you ever heard about the Greek Gods?" Hailey asked a moment later, continuing to dig through her bag.

"You mean as in Zeus and Hades and all? Yeah, I've heard of them all, but they're just stories and myths people in Ancient Greece made up to explain natural phenomenon," Haven said as Hailey pulled two peanut butter cookies from her pack. She offered one to Haven, but Haven just shook her head.

"Well, you're wrong. They do exist and they're still around. They move with western civilization," Hailey explained the whole deal to Haven as she ate the cookies.

"So basically, everything you know is false and the Greek legends are truth, but the main point is that sometimes the gods fall in love with mortals and have demigods. Freaking out yet?" Hailey concluded.

"And how does this affect me?" Haven asked.

"One of your parents is a Greek or Roman god. For example, Connor is the prickliest of all Aphrodite or Venus's children." A sharp glare came from the front of the chariot, shortly followed by a very purposeful swerve. "I mean he's the most tsundere," Hailey quickly corrected herself both verbally and physically.

"Keep stereotyping me and I will knock you off this chariot."

"I could plummet to my death!"

"As if! You'd just magic yourself back up here, witch."

"I can't just magic things to happen!" Hailey flushed at the insult, "That's not how it works!"

"Sorry to pop your bubble, but magic doesn't exist!" the momentarily forgotten Haven butted in.

"If gods exist, why can't magic exist?" Hailey retorted.

"Are you a child of Aphrodite too?"

"Just because I'm beautiful does not mean that I'm an Aphrodite child. I'm a daughter of Hecate," Hailey said with a flip of her hair and a smile, which vanished at Haven's look of complete incomprehension.

"You know, Hecate, Greek goddess of magic." To the continued blank look on Haven's face, Hailey replied, "Why does no one recognize my mother?"

Connor scoffed, "Probably cause she's a witch."

"Well, it's better to be a daughter of Hecate than a son of Aphrodite, goddess of love!" Hailey pouted.

"It's Venus. My mother is Venus, if you don't mind."

"But the Greek gods are the same as the Roman gods, right?" the once again momentarily forgotten Haven popped up, literally. Now standing, Haven leaned against the side of the chariot.

"Oh, I forgot that part. You should have reminded me," Hailey stared pointedly at the boy's backside as she leaned against the opposite side of the chariot to counteract Haven's weight.

"Almost every god has two sides, a Roman side and a Greek side," the driver stated.

"And that's just the start of their problems! Not only do they have split personality disorder, they often belittle minor gods, have affairs with like everyone, are full of themselves, can't take criticism-"

"Keep that up and I'll knock you off this chariot in the name of self-preservation. We are currently riding through Lord Jupiter's home turf," the driver interrupted.

"So you don't think I could just magic us away then?"

"I'll bet your magical skills on your life, but not on mine."

"How old are you two, kindergarteners?" the yet again momentarily forgotten Haven muttered, causing a very awkward silence to settle on the trio.

"He's 14, I'm 13. What about you?" Hailey replied as Conner had gone back to silently driving the chariot.

"You're only 13! I'm 17! You're making me feel really short," Haven complained. The dark haired girl was about half an inch shorter than Hailey. In fact, the two girls could pass as twins. Just book her a few appointments at a tanning bed and give her hair some TLC. The only big difference between the two of them were their eyes. Haven's eyes were so dark they looked black while Hailey's eyes were violet colored. Hailey shrugged and looked away.

"So, tell us about yourself. Ever been kicked out of a school or anything?" Hailey asked, waiting for a story.

"No. When I was younger, I got into lots of trouble at school, but I never got kicked out of one," Haven said. That was a shocker.

"You know, you don't have to lie to us. Most demigods get kicked out of schools loads of times. Even I got kicked out of my elementary school," Hailey said.

"Nope."

"Suspended?"

"Not even once. You can check my school record," Haven said.

"Wow! I bet you've got the best track sheet in demigod history," Hailey said impressed. Haven just shrugged and stared off into the sunset. She seemed like a nice girl. It would be cool if Haven was also a daughter of Hecate. She'd make a nice cabinmate.

"You're being awfully calm about this. The shock will catch up with you eventually," Haven commented.

"I don't actually find it that shocking, just a lot to absorb. A lot of mysteries in my life seem to be solving themselves now," Haven continued to stare into the sunset.

Underneath the chariot, Long Island Sound appeared and in no time at all Connor had landed in front of the big house.

Hailey led Haven to the porch as Connor took the chariot to the stables. Chiron wheeled out of the building with Rachel Dare next to him. She smiled at the two of them.

"So, you're Haven Walters. You look exactly like I thought you would," Rachel said to the new girl. Haven stared at her with wide eyes.

"How... How did you know?" Haven stuttered.

"I'm the Oracle of Delphi. I know things. I see the two of you are not siblings," the redhead turned to look at Hailey, "but your futures are entwined." Rachel was a really nice girl, but sometimes she really crept Hailey out - especially when she spewed green smoke and started telling riddles. Suddenly, a blue glow formed around Haven. Haven looked stunned and a blue bowl appeared above her head.

"What? What's happening?" Haven asked.

"I've never seen that symbol at Camp Half-Blood before," Chiron said.

"It's ironic, very few remember the goddess of memory, Mnemosyne. She's the mother of the muses. She doesn't have a cabin, so for tonight Haven will have to stay in the big house or my cave or maybe Hermes cabin," Rachel said.

"No. She is not staying in Cabin 11. It is so not happening!" Hailey exclaimed.

"Why not? That's where the children of minor gods used to stay."

"But isn't that why Percy Jackson made all the minor gods and goddesses get their own cabins? To avoid them all going to Hermes cabin? Plus, all the Camp Jupiter kids arrived today, most cabins are jammed full!" Hailey argued.

"I-I'll stay in the big house if that's okay with everyone," Haven said.

"Yes. I think that would be best. In the morning, would you give Haven a tour of camp, Hailey?" Chiron asked.

"Sure. Can Haven sit at the Hecate table? I know it's against the rules, but it'll only be once," Hailey begged.

"I don't see why not. That rule has been slowly disintegrating since the Argo II returned," Chiron said warily.
