Chapter 29
Today is the day! Sherrinford and Molly are getting married and I am so happy, I could explode! I can't believe my brother is getting married to the love of his life! Finally he found that one woman that could make him as happy as can be. He's lucky to have Molly as his wife. There was never a more perfect match made in heaven than them.
I was here and there, making sure everything is ready and perfect. Did I mention they made me a bridesmaid? I hobbled around in my killer high heels that Molly forced me to wear, and I was totally getting blisters by the end of the day. The caterers got the things right, the cake doesn't have pistachio. Instead, it's a beautiful three-tiered white cake with vanilla as the flavour and a bride and groom topping off the splendid cake. Classic, but chic.
Thank god the white roses came early on the morning, and the workers got to work, placing the flowers where they should be. The white carpet was rolled out already, where Molly would walk with her father and the flower girls. And the ringbearer of course. Everything was perfect, and it should stay that way.
"Sherry!" Molly's best friend, Bella came towards me. She was already wearing her bridesmaid dress, which was a lavender dress that came down to her knees. All bridesmaids are wearing that. She was easily my great friend, as she was very friendly and she understands my passion with music. "What are you doing, wearing that? Get in your dress, the reception starts in two hours!" Bella exclaimed, dragging me along with her to the dressing room, where there was a lot of women talking, wearing their dresses.
I spotted Molly, who was getting help to wear her wedding dress. It's beautiful. It was white with beads on the torso part, and the skirt was actually glittery, thanks to the sequins on the skirt. She was wearing white velvet heels. She was getting her veil fixed on top of her head. She caught sight of me and waved.
I gave her a smile, just before Bella dragged me further into the dressing room. She helped me wear my dress. It fit me perfectly (duh!) and Bella was showering me with compliments on how I would 'make men cry because I'm not theirs'. I rolled my eyes at her, but I couldn't help but smile. I bet Jim's regretting this. I looked fabulous, and today is all about Sherrinford and Molly, not my psychopath of a husband!
"Molly, come look at your future sister-in-law! She looks so perfect!" Bella called for Molly.
Molly nodded and said, "Yes, you look beautiful, darling! I bet guys would kick themselves for not meeting you before!"
Bella squealed. "I know right! But she wouldn't believe me!" Bella pouted, just like a six year old.
"Okay, okay. I believe that you think I look gorgeous. Happy?"
"Very." Bella smiled. Then my phone rang. Who would call me in the hour leading to the most perfect day of my brother's life? I mouthed 'Phone' at Bella and Molly, and they nodded. They talked to each other about the wedding cake.
"Hello?"
"Having fun at the wedding?" A sinister voice said through the phone. I furrowed my eyebrows and looked around. No one was ontheir phones, and I'm pretty sure no one else knew I was in here.
"Who's this?" I asked, highly aware that I was doing the typical move of every girl in a horror movie. "Look, mister, I don't want-"
"Enjoy the last day of your brother's life." The stranger said and disconnected. No fucking way. Not today, please not today! Not on the most important day of my brother's life! I really don't need anyone's life being threatened at the moment. And I'm the wedding planner, which means I would be held responsible if anything wrong happened at the wedding. And plus all the stress, they surely picked the wrong day to threaten my brother's life.
I scrolled through my contacts and called Sherrinford. I knew he would be busy, but I had to warn him. He didn't answer. Damnit! I tried him a couple more times before giving up. I'll just have to wait until I could find a time to talk to him, and he's plenty busy, and I'm not sure if I will ever talk to him until the banquet at 2. And right now, it's 12. Which means that I will have to be alert in case someone tries to assassinate my brother. What a day.
Bella, Molly and I were talking amongst ourselves when Diana, one of the other bridesmaids, called for us to go. The ceremony was about to start, and I was so excited! Bella and I, along with the other bridesmaids, walked out and took our places.
There were already a lot of people seated, all smiles and excited for Molly to come out. I looked around for familiar faces. Not that there were many of our mutual friends. Most of them were colleagues, and friends. I spotted Greg Lestrade sitting next to Mrs Hudson in the second row. Mrs Hudson smiled at me as she caught me looking. I nodded at Lestrade, and he gave his head a little tilt of acknowledgement.
Sherlock was seated next to our parents. I nodded at Sherlock, and he returned the favour. Then I looked over to my parents. They looked so happy, giddy even. Mum was wearing white, complete with white gloves. She looked like a younger version of the Queen. All we needed was the hat. Dad was smiling ear to ear, happy that one of his sons was getting married. Then he saw me. His mouth dropped into an 'O'. I gave him a shy smile, not sure if I was still considered his daughter or not. Then he started to smile, a big grin, and I swear his eyes started to well up. Mum was asking Dad why he was crying, and then Dad answered, gesturing towards me. Mum was too happy. She looked like she was going to jump at me and hug me tightly. She started crying. I knew I should've had a proper reunion, but then I hadn't seen them until now.
I was about to launch myself at them, crying, when the double doors of the church opened, and the flower girls emerged, Molly and Mr Hooper following suit. Wedding music filled the church, emitting a wonderful sound as the guests stood up. They were beaming, all of them. Molly looked like she was going to jump up and scream happily as she looked at Sherrinford, not taking her eyes off him. Sherrinford looked as if he saw the most beautiful thing in the entire universe, in awe. I was sure she was the most beautiful thing in the universe to him.
Sherrinford grinned and Molly smiled shyly as Molly stood next to Sherrinford, the pastor smiling at the two of them. When the pastor was sure they were ready, he began his speech.
"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to witness the joining of Sherrinford Holmes and Molly Hooper in marriage as they pledge their love and commitment for each other. We rejoice in the manner God had led them to each other and where they stand now."
I saw the doors open and someone slipped in. A latecomer. He was seated at the back. And that was when I noticed who it was.
Jim. Jim Moriarty, the man who held my heart in his hands. Jim Moriarty, the man who had broken me and put me back together. Jim Moriarty, my husband. He caught me staring openly at him. He gave me a small smile. I hurriedly sent my thoughts racing back to the guest list. I was sure there was never a Moriarty on it, and why would either Sherrinford or Molly invite him?! I narrowed my eyes at him and continued to listen to the pastor, who was already reading out the words for the wedding vows.
"Since it is your intention to marry, join your right hands to bind you together. Do you, Sherrinford Holmes, take Molly Hooper as your lawfully wedded wife, for the better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness or in health, till death do you part?"
"I do." Sherrinford said, smiling at Molly.
"And do you, Molly Hooper, take Sherrinford Holmes as your lawfully wedded husband, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness or in health, till death do you part?"
"I do." Molly said, nodding.
To the everyone else in the church, the pastor said, "Then it is by right for you both to be wedded. To all the guests in this church, if there is a just cause for these two to not marry, then speak now or forever hold your p-"
The double doors swung open as a man stormed inside. Perfect timing. Sometimes I wonder if my life is actually a movie. It should be called Wedding Crashers, because there's so many people crashing any wedding I attend, and of course my own. "I object!" The man shouted. I realized that it was Tom, as in, Tom the guy that spread rumours about me in school.
Then he produced a gun, and the guests collectively gasped, Sherlock and Lestrade both jumping up from their seats, ready to stop Tom from hurting anyone in the church. Jim also stood up, silently producing another gun. "You!" He pointed his gun at me, and I felt my blood stop for a second. I was terrified. What did I do wrong? I gulped.
"You married the wrong guy, bitch." He snarled at me. Really? It's someone else's wedding, not mine. If you had any objections, you should've came earlier.
"Watch who you're talking about." Jim growled. Tom turned to look at him. He flipped the bird at him, causing Jim's hold on his gun to tighten.
"Don't crash a wedding that isn't my own." I said.
"You should've been with me! You should've picked me, but you fell for the fucking psychopath that made you want to jump off the pier!" The guests collectively gasped again. My grip on the bouquet of flowers was so tight, it made my knuckles white. Oh how I wished to choke to life out of him.
"Really, Tom. If you had any objections, you should've went to my wedding." I saw my parents frown in confusion as they looked at first Jim, and then me. Oops. They didn't know I was married.
"I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE YOUR HUSBAND!" Tom shouted, his voice echoing the otherwise quiet church. Even the pastor was tugging at his collar, the sign of nervousness.
"Well too bad, I got married to someone else! Now can we please go outside and settle this privately?" I pleaded, knowing that he was being an embarrassment on my behalf. We were fighting about my marriage in someone else's wedding. How horrid.
"Oh we can settle this right here. If you don't divorce with him, I will kill you beloved brother."The guests were muttering, whispering amongst themselves, talking about the girl who had brought chaos to a wedding. Fuck off, Tom!
"As much as I love them both, I can't do that. I'm not losing the two men I care about for an asshole who spread rumours about me in high school. Give it up, Tom, I'm not marrying you." I said harshly.
"I didn't want to do this..." He said.I saw him point the gun at Sherrinford, and by instinct, I leaped in front of Sherrinford, just as a loud bang echoed through the now chaotic church.
