Hey, guys! I'm so sorry for the wait, I just literally had zero minute free time. But here I am again, tried to write an acceptable chapter because I kind of felt ashamed for not updating sooner. I know the wait can be a real bitch.
This isn't my best writing, and it's kind of a filling chapter anyway, but please review! I'd really like to know what you're thinking and if there's any request you want me to put in my story! :)

Disclaimer: I do not own The Vampire Diaries and Damon Salvatore in any form, unfortunately.

Chapter 3: All The Pretty Sources

After some time, Elena made her way back up the stairs and into the living room of the boarding house. She promised Damon she would be back as soon as she took care of some things, including planning the big-cure-finding mission. She didn't know how they would manage to accomplish this problem, but she was optimistic, in which she found herself alone, because apparently, there were more similarities between the Salvatore brothers than ever before. That meant that the ever optimistic raven haired vampire's broodiness reached an almost unmeasurable level when she talked to him in the basement. Though she managed to produce a little smile on his face, she knew her words wouldn't be enough to keep the dark thoughts out of his mind. So she had to work fast.

First, she needed to find Damon's phone which, according to Damon, was taken by Stefan the day he and Katherine found him in that cabin in the middle of nowhere. She knew if she wanted to set a plan in motion or, at least, find out where Wes was, she could only count on one person's help. And finding that person's whereabouts required Damon's phone because only he had the number. She just hoped Stefan didn't take the device with himself because she didn't know how to explain to him why she needed Damon's phone. That's why she asked him to tell the others to leave the house, including himself so she could speak with that person in private. She knew if the others found out her plan they would've done anything to stop it. Though sooner or later they would be aware of that something was going on, so she needed to postpone the "sooner" part a little bit.

But as she walked into the parlour of the boarding house which was lit by the fireplace, as usual, she noticed two people sitting on the leather couch. Great...Just what she needed...

"Oh goody. You're still here. I thought I asked you to leave for a while," she said, stopping a few feet away from them and crossing her arms in front of her chest.

Caroline narrowed her eyes and turned her head to Elena.

"Why? So you could free Damon and start a killing spree?" you couldn't miss the judgement from the blond's voice even if you wanted to.

That's it. That was the last straw. Elena couldn't hold back the words that were just itching to come out of her mouth since the moment she woke up a few hours ago. She was a very patient woman, but even she couldn't take this any longer with a straight face. She loved Caroline, but she needed to learn how to shut her mouth up.

"You know Caroline, I think you lost the right to judge people when you slept with the person who ruined everyone's life here in Mystic Falls," started Elena her speech with an even voice. She saw Caroline widen her eyes at her words. "How can you sit there and badmouth someone who did nothing but saved everyone's life repeatedly including yours? Yes, Damon did some terrible things but he made up for it a long time ago and still you seize every opportunity to disparage him-"

"Elena-" cut in Stefan with a warning tone.

"Don't! Stefan, you are even worse," raising her voice, Elena got angrier by the minute. "That's your brother down there! Your brother, Stefan! Do you know how lucky you are that you still have him in your life? Because believe me, I know how it feels to lose a sibling and you don't want to go there. He is the only person who was there in your entire life, who knows you like nobody else and who you can call your family. And in the face of these facts you still treat him like a dirt on your shoes," Elena was breathing hard, from the anger and from the disappointment that was surging through her veins. She needed to get this out of her system. "He was always there for you. He took the blame for you even though he knew I was going to hate him. He could've made a move on me when you were off the rails but he didn't. Not once. So the least you can do is help us find a cure for this and then you can ignore him all you want, but I can't remember a time when Damon didn't try to help you with anything. Be it your bloodlust or when you were kidnapped," finished Elena her speech with a low voice.

The two blonde just stared ahead, neither of them dared to say a word because deep down they both knew that Elena was right. The younger Salvatore knew he wasn't fair to his brother. But he was still hurt that the love he shared with Elena was snatched away from him, that the person who took her from him was his own brother. Their kiss in that dirty motel room was still engraved in his mind even though he knew it wasn't really Elena who kissed him. But he couldn't help but think about the fact, how easy it was to fall back to the time when they were still together, how easy it was to pretend, that their love survived everything that was thrown at them. Stefan knew he needed to move on because Elena clearly did, but he just didn't know how. Maybe time will tell. The only thing he knew was that he owed his brother to help him. Elena was right.

The otherwise bubbly blond on the other side of the couch still couldn't form any words after Elena's outburst. She was in a bit of a shock. And that feeling soon mixed with confusion and shame. She knew sleeping with Klaus was probably the biggest mistake of her life, but at that moment, she couldn't think of anything else rather than tearing the hybrid's clothes off. She didn't know what came over her, what possessed her to jump the bones of the world's most sadistic man. She was aware of the fact how hypocritical she was after her actions but saying those things about Damon was a reflex to her. What the elder Salvatore did to her a few years ago was something that cut deep and she couldn't just forget that. He hadn't even apologized to her! But she could see this has gone far enough. Clearly Damon was trying, she had to give that to him.

Stefan sighed then stood up from the couch and glanced at Elena with determination.

"Okay, I'll help. What do you need me to do?"

Elena couldn't believe her ears. Did she just convince Stefan to take part in their plan? She smiled triumphantly inwardly.

"Well, first I need you to give me Damon's phone. He said you took it, " she said matter of factly, but without accusation. She didn't want to add fuel to the fire by still showing how angry she was.

Stefan tilted his head and looked suspiciously at her, but only said, "It's in my room. I'll go get it," then he took off without any other word. If he knew what was going on he didn't voice it. Elena knew without a doubt that Stefan was aware of her plan, he was smart, but maybe for the sake of Caroline, he let it slide for now.

Said blonde, on the other hand, was still a bit disagreeable and fired away her questions as soon as possible.

"Why do you need his phone? Who do you want to call? Please tell me it isn't-"

But she couldn't finish her curious thoughts because Stefan came back with the requested device in hand. Elena murmured a 'thank you' both to Stefan and to her luck that she didn't have to answer her best friend's questions just yet. She knew Caroline would squeal with protest and Elena didn't have time for listening how this idea is the worst ever. Once she made the call and everything is settled she would bring her plan to Caroline's knowledge. After all, they were a team now. And then she couldn't do anything about it.

"I'm going to bring this to Damon," said Elena, holding up the phone and glancing pointedly at Stefan. Stefan narrowed his eyes slightly, wearing an unreadable expression on his face. Then he nodded barely visible and motioned Caroline to follow him. The blonde girl tried to protest, but feeling the tension in the room, she walked defeatedly to the front door which Stefan had already opened and gestured for her to step outside with him. She looked back at Elena with a mix of hurt and annoyed expression, then turned back and the door closed behind them.

Elena made her way back down the stairs now the second time this day and opened the cell's door. What she found in there was both adorable and sad.

Damon sat against the wall, his head tilted back and his eyes were closed. He was sleeping. Elena couldn't help but smile. She always loved to watch Damon while he was in dreamland. In those moments his expression was stripped from any frown, only leaving a peaceful look on his face. And it was angelic.

But now as she looked at him, his face held a somewhat dark expression, like what he saw under those perfect eyelids made him miserable. She wished she could peer into his mind and alter whatever was bothering him in his sleep but that required lots of practice and years.

She walked closer to him and kneeled down before him, shaking his shoulder gently to wake him up. "Damon,"

He fluttered his eyelids then opened them, revealing those endlessly blue eyes which made her knees go weak every time. He sat up straighter and smiled at her, murmuring a 'hey' groggily from the sleep and looking at her in wonder, still having a hard time believing that she didn't give up on him like everyone else.

He studied her determined expression and then looked questioningly at her.

Elena reached into her back pocket and pulled out his phone, flashing a proud smile at him. "I got your phone back," she handed it to him.

"Thanks. Now we can sexting with each other whenever you are not around," he smirked at her, lifting his eyebrows up suggestively.

She rolled her eyes with a smile then snatched it back from him. "No, so we can call reinforcements,"

He tilted his head at her, then looked at her sceptically when he realized who she was talking about.

"He's hardly a reinforcement,"

Elena frowned. "With his help, we have the biggest chance at finding Wes. He knows Wes the best," reminded him Elena.

"Well, try explaining that to Blondie...Not that I care about what she thinks, but from what I know she can be unusually useful sometimes and it would be really great if those two wouldn't kill each other before we actually start searching for a probably-non-existent-cure for this vampire ripper virus," said Damon mockingly with a humorless smile. He knew that the chance for finding a solution to this 'slight' problem was down to zero. He wouldn't get his hopes up. Not this time.

"Hey, we will sort this out. I'll do anything in my power to help you with this," she tried to reassure him, but she knew it wasn't that easy. He was stubborn which she both hated and loved about him. But at that moment, she hated it because there wasn't any words in the vocabulary that could make him just a little bit positive in his mind.

"I wish I could believe you," he said with a straight face, looking at the ground. "But thank you," he finally smiled at her genuinely.

She tilted her head at him. "What for?"

"Do you want the list alphabetically or chronologically?" he smirked at her and she rolled her eyes with a little smile on her lips. "For sticking up for me earlier. Those two can bitch about nearly everything. I'm surprised they haven't hooked up yet,"

Elena giggled at that.

"Well, that would be a little weird, considering how Caroline was literally Stefan's and mine personal cheerleader when we were together," she said with a chuckle and Damon joined in with her, despite it being still a sore topic for him hearing about his brother and Elena together. "But you're welcome. It was inevitable, though. I just couldn't stand them not give a damn about you like they should. You've changed and I can't believe they can't see it too..."

"You know they will never support you and me together, right?" he asked, looking intently into her eyes, trying to make her understand his point with this.

"Maybe not in the near future, but-,"

"And Caroline is your best friend, so as Witchy," he didn't let her finish her sentence because she still didn't understand it. What she will have to give up for him if she decided to stay with him.

But she did understand what he was trying to achieve with his reasoning and she got mad.

"Knock it off, Damon. I know what are you trying to do. I thought we talked about this. I'm not changing my mind and this conversation is over. Period," she said in a demanding tone, flashing her eyes at him. Why can't he just let himself be happy for once? Why was he trying to push her away constantly? But now is not the time to find answers to these questions. There are more important things to be taken care of first. Like why she came down here in the first place.

"Now can we please get on with this plan?" she asked.

He liked when she was bossy. It was sexy as hell. God was he horny. He needed to chase away these thoughts. Now is not the time to think about that.

"Course," he said huskily, making Elena look at him a little surprised. She recognised that voice. Of course, she did. He used this tone when- No. Now is not the time to think about that.

She glanced down quickly at his phone and called the number that belonged to the person who maybe held the solution to their problem.

It ringed two times before the man on the other end received the call.

"Enzo? We need your help," said Elena in a steady voice.

"Well, hello Damon. Did that virus messed with your hormones too, because your voice is a little girlish now," said Enzo with his unmistakable accent.

Elena rolled her eyes but before she could answer Damon snatched the phone out of her hands.

"You're not funny right now. We really need your help. Can you drag your ass to the boarding house and meet us? Blondie will be here," he added and smirked when Elena widened her eyes.

"In that case, I'll be there in 5," said Enzo with a smile in his tone and disconnected the call.

Damon put down his phone and looked up at a fuming Elena.

"What?" he asked innocently, but Elena didn't answer just shook her head and tried to hide her impending smile on her face. "You have 4 minutes and 30 seconds to prepare Vampire Barbie that her nightmare is coming to visit," he smirked at Elena.

They heard the front door open and Elena bit her lip. Let the fun begin.

A/N: Okay, Elena was my spirit animal in this chapter. I think you know why.
