Chapter 6

Quinn was enjoying a quiet morning, munching on her favorite cereal while reading Today's newspaper. Being in the magazine business, she grew to appreciated the hard copy of current events instead of going to her iPad.

The simplicity was comforting to the blonde.

Chloe came home late last night and accidentally sleeped in. She was currently in the shower. The upside of having her own business, she didn't have to answer to someone for being late.

But Chloe as always prides herself on her punctuality and didn't want to set a bad example for her employees.

"Have you seen my necklace babe?" Chloe ask when she pass Quinn in the kitchen before immediately disappearing into another room.

Quinn bit her lip in annoyance.

It was one of Quinn's pet peeves that Chloe does.

Asking her a question and then proceed to leave the room before Quinn got a chance to answer. The blonde really hated having a conversation with someone who is in an another room. She felt like she was shouting just to be heard.

"Never mind, I found it." Chloe said as she walked back into the room, now searching for her purse.

Quinn pursed her lips into a fake smile that was missed by Chloe completely, who main focus was getting out the door in a hurry.

"How was your visit with your parents?" Chloe asked after finding her purse and was now walking into the kitchen island where Quinn was enjoying her breakfast.

"Good." Quinn simple stated. "They asked about you."

"Did you apologized for me? I hope they weren't mad." Chloe asked sliding her heels on.

Chloe genuinely felt horrible about skipping out on them at the last minute.

"My parents adore you. They were understanding." Quinn gave her a comforting smile.

Her parents really did love Chloe. To be honest, there really wasn't a girl that she brought home that her parents didn't like. Her mom was just persistent on her youngest daughter getting married more than anything.

Quinn thinks maybe her mom didn't care to who sometimes.

"They're the best." Chloe said slightly relieved.

"Do you want some breakfast?" Quinn asked gesturing to her bowl of cereal.

Chloe shook her head and grab one of the bananas.

"I don't have time. I'm already late as it is." Chloe said walking towards the door.

"Hey," Quinn said halting the redhead at the door as she closed the distance.

"How was seeing the girls again?" Quinn asked.

Chloe hesitated for a moment for reason that was unknown. She had spend the whole night never leaving Beca's side. She had notice that Beca was flirting with her and she would be lying to denied that she didn't welcome the attention. She shouldn't have felt guilty about last night. But the way Beca was looking at her made her feel the fluttering of butterfly in her stomach that she hadn't felt in awhile.

She tried not to think about it because she loved Quinn.

Loves Quinn.

It was just innocent flirting.

"It was great." Chloe answered flashing her girlfriend a bright smile before opening their front door.

"I'm sorry babe, I really have to go." Chloe apologized.

Quinn nodded, slightly disappointed that Chloe had to rush off, before accepting Chloe's fleeting kiss before watching her go.

As Chloe waited for the elevator to reach her floor, her mind went back to Beca. To tell the truth, during the whole trip to the office her mind has been occupied with Beca. She couldn't seem to get the girl off her mind. She had a tiny crushed on the small brunette back in college, but Beca was hanging out with Jesse. And she had found herself in a friends with benefit situation with Tom. So she really didn't do anything about it and passed it off as a crushed that would go away.

And it did for awhile.

The elevator doors open signally that she had hit her destination.

She took a deep breath and tried to erase thoughts of Beca from her mind so she could have a productive day.

Her office that ran her business was fairly small but comfortable. It suited the business well. She had about 5 employees working for her. She had managed to build a successful interior design company with her best friend and they were still growing strong.

Longer than she ever thought.

She said hello to everyone before she made her way to her own little office.

She could see Aubrey with there talking with someone but she couldn't see who it was.

"Finally, you're here," Aubrey greeted her when she heard Chloe open the door.

"Hey." The other person turn around in her seat, revealing herself to the redhead.

"Beca?" Chloe asked bewildered by her expected visit.

"I hope you don't mind. I was able to pull away from the studio and thought I would drop by to say hi." Beca smiled.

"Um... that's great. I'm glad you here." Chloe returned her smile before turning her attention to her best friend. "What is on my schedule today?"

"Amy rescheduled for tomorrow around 10am, which was available, and Tom from the Lancaster restaurant also reschedule..." Aubrey said.

Chloe frowned.

That was a little unusually for her to have two clients to reschedule appointments on the same day.

"...so all you have today is to visit Rachel's site, Carlos had the granite put in the kitchen that you should probably check and go over with Rachel." Aubrey finished.

"Did you ask Amy to send Tom some tile samples?" Chloe asked. She noticed in the corner of her eye that Beca was staring at her with an amusing glint in her eye.

"Yes." Aubrey answered.

"Great." Chloe sighed in relief and sat behind her desk.

It turns out it was going to be an easy day here in the office and her tardiness wasn't going to have a negative effect.

But that didn't matter to Chloe. She likes to be on time.

"Now, If you excuse me, I need to send some invoices out." Aubrey said walking out of the office leaving the two girls alone.

"Wow." Beca exclaimed.

"What?" Chloe asked curiously.

"When we're in the Bellas, Aubrey was bossing you around and now, you are her boss. Glad you grew a back bone." Beca put on a cheeky grin.

"I don't boss her around." Chloe argued.

"No, you are way nicer. Aubrey was a bitch." Beca agreed playfully

"Stop." Chloe said chastising her lightly defending her friend.

"Oh, you know I love her now, but you remember how she was. I'm just saying it's interesting turn of events."

"Well, I am technically the boss, but Aubrey is more like my partner than a subordinate." Chloe explained.

Beca nodded. "Right. It's fun for me to watch."

"I bet." Chloe rolled her eyes.

"Hey do you mind if I tag along today? I miss hanging out with you. I feel like I know nothing about your life. Maybe you could show me around New York. This is my first time here." Beca asked trying not letting her nervousness show which Chloe found adorable.

Chloe knew that if she spend anymore time with the brunette, her feelings for the girl would grow more confusing for her. But she wanted to Beca to be around. She didn't realize how horribly she missed the girl and wasn't going to let an opportunity pass to hang around her before she would have to go back to L.A..

Even the thought of the brunette leaving caused a pain in her heart.

"Sure. But it might be boring." Chloe warned.

"Oh, I don't know. I find interior design to be fascinating and plus I'll be in great company." Beca grinned.

Chloe felt a sudden warmth in her cheek.

"What is it about Rachel?" Santana asked.

"Hmmm..?"

Quinn had dazed off and had paid no attention to her best friend.

"I mean, I give it to you, when she gave up the horrible argyle sweaters, she turned out hot but you were still into her back when she did wear those fugly sweaters. So I'm trying to find the appeal."

Quinn sighed.

"I don't know why were having this conversation. I'm not with Rachel anymore." Quinn argued.

"I'm been your best friend since we were in diapers. And I know when you're all angsty and shit. So why don't we talk about it so I don't have to see this pathetic version of you anymore. I narrow the reason down to Rachel being back in your life."

"It was also around the time you came back from Florida." Quinn argued.

"So you admit that there is something wrong." Santana pointed out.

Quinn rolled her eyes. "Everything perfect. I'm fine."

"That's such a crock of shit."

Santana was always able to call her when she was lying.

"Would you just drop it." Quinn said agitated.

She didn't want to tell Santana that Chloe didn't want to marry her was getting her down. She was embarrassed but more than that hurt. And those are the 2 traits of vulnerability she didn't like to show anyone, worse of all Santana. She almost regretting telling Rachel but she needed the other girls comfort and it made her feel better.

"I might have to go back to Florida earlier than plan, so you only going to have your best friend for a limited time. So please let me do my best friend duties out of the way while I'm here rather than have everything explode when I come back."

"Why do you have to go back early? Quinn asked trying to deter her from any further questions.

"Sebastian apparently sleep with the wrong client and he is now trying to sue us and Sugar is..."

"Wait. You hired Sugar. Sugar Motta." Quinn asked incredulously.

"Yeah. I didn't tell you? Her father cut her off because she got married in vegas, shot gun wedding style, and the guy knew she was loaded and got huge alimony. Apparently she was getting a little out of control and that was the last straw for her dad. She called me up needing a job, so I made her my receptionist. If you need anybody telling you what your flaws are, she doesn't mind letting you know."

Quinn shrugged.

It does sound like a perfect fit.

"Least she got someone to marry her." Quinn muttered to herself.

"What was that?" Santana raised an eyebrow.

"Nothing."

"I thought you and Chloe were having lunch everyday with each other. To help your relationship."

"She was running late this morning and texted me she had a lot to do in the office today."

"Breaking rules already."

"It's not a rule. And she had a valid reason."

"It was a stupid idea in the first place. You can't force each other to be around each other just because you have busy schedule."

"I don't find anything wrong to make a conscious effort to make time for each other, and I think it was crucial because we got busy and lost in our own individual world. It's called working on the relationship." Quinn defended.

"I have to go to Florida every three months, for 2-3 months and Britt and I have way better communication then you two have right now."

"You and Brittany are completely different. You guys are meant for each other." Quinn said.

"And you and Chloe aren't?" Santana raised her eyebrows.

Her immediate reaction was to defend her relationship but Quinn pauses momentarily to ponder the Latina's question.

She didn't think they were soul mates but she loves Chloe very much. Chloe was amazing, always kind, funny, intelligent and beautiful. She was easy to be around and they have a lot of common interests. Just because she doesn't think they're "soul mates" doesn't mean they couldn't have a life together. And Quinn truly thought they were going to spend the rest of their life together.

That was why she proposed.

"So just to let you know, even though it really doesn't matter, but Rachel is Quinn's ex-girlfriend." Chloe told Beca as they pulled up to Rachel's apartment building.

"Isn't that weird?" Beca asked looking at the building.

"Not really. She's really sweet. It was years ago. When they were in high school." Chloe said. "And it a great project for me."

"Is she pretty?" Beca asked.

"Why does that matter?" Chloe asked confused.

"But it must at least be awkward for your girlfriend, right." Beca asked ignoring Chloe's question.

Chloe hesitated for a moment before answering.

"In the beginning but I think she's coming around. And she knows how exciting this project is for me." Chloe explained.

"She must be..."

"Hey Chloe, I'm glad you're here." Rachel greeted when she appeared from the other room, unintentionally interrupting their conversation.

"You are definitely hotter." Beca muttered to herself when she saw what Rachel looked like.

Chloe felt her face getting warm. She didn't know if Beca had intended her to hear her but she had and she couldn't help the way her heart was fluttering.

"Rachel, this is Beca." Chloe introduced.

Beca smiled and shook the other girl's hand.

"It's nice to meet you."

"Nice to meet you as well." Rachel smiled politely.

"So, how do you think the kitchen turn out?" Chloe asked as she walked toward the area.

"I'm in love with this backsplash. I'm glad we decided on the the intricate pattern even though it was a longer process, I thought it turn out really well and well worth the wait." Rachel said.

"This is amazing. Chloe, you... your..." Beca trailed off in awe, getting to see Chloe's work in person.

Chloe smiled at the compliment, while Rachel watched Beca in curiosity.

Chloe started measuring some tiles and was writing more plans out.

"So what is it that you do?" Beca asked Rachel as she looked around the loft.

"I star on a Broadway play, nothing too special, it's an original screenplay but it slowly growing popular." Rachel answered.

"Ah... an actress." Beca smiled.

"My first passion is singing."

"Oh Chloe and I were in a Acapella group together back in college."

"Chloe never mention she sings."

"Oh, she has nodes, so she probably doesn't like talking about it. But this interior design business has really taking off for her."

"She's really talented." Rachel nodded. "I would recommend her to anyone."

"Yeah." Beca stared at Chloe as she was talking to one of the contractors.

Rachel's raised on eyebrow at the other brunette. She knows that look. She use to look at Quinn like that. Like how is it possible that there someone so perfect.

Rachel cleared her throat, waking Beca out of her stupor.

"Oh... Sorry." Beca apologized.

Rachel feign a smile.

"Do you mind if I look around?" Beca asked.

"No, go ahead."

Beca wandered around the loft, taking notice of everything that Chloe has done. The was a huge job and the redhead does it was such ease, especially with the client being her girlfriend's ex.

Chloe has definitely found her calling.

"So, the kitchen is almost done. We just need to set up an appointment to go shopping for appliances. Do you want to go through the bedroom and walk through what you want to do before we leave?" Chloe asked already walking to the master bedroom.

"Sure." Rachel followed the redhead.

"I was thinking for the wallpaper, that we should go with the gray. I think it looks more richer. And maybe a shelf right in this area..."

Beca couldn't help but admire how beautiful Chloe was as she went through the bedroom with Rachel. She has been very impressed with Chloe's work.

"That sounds great." Rachel said as her phone chimed filled the room. Glancing down quickly at her iPhone she decided to excuse herself and take the call in another room.

Chloe decided to get more measurements around the bedroom in the brunette'e absence.

When Rachel came back in the room after her phone call she stopped at the doorway observing the two friends in the room.

Chloe and Beca seem really close. She had caught them joking with each other, lightly bumping each other's up, smiling a lot.

Rachel had a feeling that there might be and maybe still present crush Beca had for Chloe.

Rachel couldn't help but feel for Quinn after the blonde had broke down in front of her at Russell's birthday party.

She let out a big breathe before announcing her presence.

"I think that's about it for today." Chloe said as she and Beca made their way to the front door.

"Chloe, before I forget. I got you and Quinn tickets to see my show tonight. I would love if you both could some. It's also a thank you for doing a fabulous job and being so patient with me." Rachel handed the tickets to the redhead.

"That's so sweet. I think we are both free tonight, so we will probably see you tonight." Chloe smiled.

"Great." Rachel said walking the girls out.

"It was nice meeting you Rachel." Beca said.

"You too."

"I'll have Aubrey call you about what's the best time for us to go shopping." Chloe said.

"That would great."

"Thanks again, Rachel." Chloe said.

Rachel waved at them at her doorway before turning back inside.

"I think I'm done for the day. Do you want to get some coffee? There's a cute cafe around the corner." Chloe smiled.

"Yeah, definitely."

"Chloe, you are amazing. Chloe Beale Designs is going to be huge." Beca gushed.

"Stop." Chloe blushed at the praise.

"I'm serious."

"We are growing pretty quick. I had to turned down clients because our schedule is so packed. I think I might have to hire more staff." Chloe said taking a sip of her latte.

"How big would you like to expand your business?" Beca asked.

Chloe shrugged.

She always wanted the bigger clients. The big restaurants, celebrity houses,.. she had so many ideas that she wanted to execute. But can she handle it? She always manages to play it safe.

"I don't know. I didn't ever think I was going to get this far. At the beginning it wasn't like this at all. I beg my friends if I can do their houses for free. And everyone loved it and started spreading the word around." Chloe said.

Beca mouth hung wide opened.

"I don't understand how you don't see how amazing you are."

"You look gorgeous." Quinn smiled at Chloe as they walked up to the theatre.

Chloe returned the smile and interlock their fingers. When Beca complimented her today, she couldn't help but blushed but Quinn words didn't have the same effect.

"Why are you so quiet?" Quinn questioned as she handed their tickets when they walked inside.

"It's nothing." Chloe shook her head.

"Are you uncomfortable being here for Rachel? Do you want to leave?" Quinn asked concerned.

"No! That's not at all. I just have work things going on in my head. It's nothing really." Chloe said trying to convince her girlfriend.

"I'm sorry I couldn't make lunch. How was Santana?" Chloe asked changing the subject once they found their seats.

Quinn sighed.

"She is heading back to Florida sooner than we all thought. Something came up." Quinn said not to happy about it.

"That's suck. How's Brittany?"

"Not to good, I would imagine. I would hate it for you to be in another state. I think I've been neglected her when Santana has to go to Florida. I'm going to make sure I spend time with her when Santana leaves. I don't want her to feel lonely."

"I think that's a great idea." Chloe said before the curtains opened up and the show was beginning.

Quinn and Chloe have never been to a Broadway show in all the years that they lived in New York. Quinn has been avoiding them because they made her think of Rachel, who she was trying to get over at the time.

And Chloe has just never been a big Broadway fanatic.

"Rachel was great. She's really talented." Chloe said.

Quinn just nodded in agreement.

Rachel had texted them to asked if they didn't mind waiting for her to change so she can say hi and maybe grab a coffee.

Rachel was indescribable. Listening her sing today made her feel nostalgic. Like she was back in the choir room with a stomach full of butterflies.

"She was made for the stage." Quinn smiled to herself.

Before Chloe could give any more thought on the soft smile on her girlfriend's face, she felt her phone vibrate.

Chloe discreetly check on her phone and found the text was from Beca asking her to meet her tonight. She knew Beca was leaving soon and hate to pass up any opportunity to see her. Chloe bit her lip before texting back and stuffing her phone back in her purse.

"Hey, the girls decided to do a last minute meet up tonight, do you mind if I went?" Chloe didn't have the slightest clue why she decided to lie to Quinn.

Quinn was a little disappointed.

She wanted to be understanding. The Bellas were important to Chloe and she could understand that she would want to spend time with them. Especially that they were only going to be here for a short time.

How could she say no? She doesn't want to tell Chloe that she have to spend time with her.

"You should definitely go." Quinn encouraged.

"Are you sure?" Chloe asked again.

"Yeah," Quinn smiled.

"Okay, I'm going to catch a cab. I'll see you later on tonight?"

Quinn nodded.

Chloe hated that their relationship had turn into this. But she didn't know how to fix it.

She closed the space between them to give Quinn a hug goodbye before pulling back slightly to meet her lips.

At first it started off slow, like they were trying to find their way to each other again. They both had their eyes closed, trying to remember how they did this so easily and effortlessly before. Quinn took the lead and sucked on the redhead's upper lip before hesitantly sliding her tongue asking for entrance. Chloe sighed as she felt the blonde's tongue meet hers and battle. She playfully sucked on it before releasing and pulling back to lean her forehead against Quinn's.

Chloe licked her lips still tasting the blonde.

"I love you." She whispered.

"I love you too." The blonde replied before laying one more kiss on her lips before releasing her hold on Chloe.

"I'm just going to say goodbye and thank Rachel for the tickets before I head back home." Quinn told her before she left.

Chloe nodded before walking out of the theatre and hailing a cab.

Rachel had witness the goodbye the two girls exchange, and would be lying if she said it didn't hurt. She never like seeing Quinn with somebody else. She had dealt with it fine because she was dealing with the couple individually and didn't have to see them together.

Rachel waited until Chloe got inside the cab before making her way to the blonde who was on her phone.

"I hope you weren't texting during the show. Because if you were, then we have a big problem Miss Fabray."

Quinn face lit up when she recognized the voice. She pulled the brunette into a bone-crushing hug.

"You were amazing Rach. You truly shined on that stage." Quinn smiled.

"Thank you." Rachel tighten her hold around the blonde's neck.

She had always had a scene played out in her head for when the blonde saw her on the stage. She would congratulate her after the show, backstage. Bring her Gardenias. Maybe have celebratory sex in her dressing room.

She never once imagine that the first time Quinn saw on Broadway would be with her girlfriend.

"You really liked it." Rachel asked as they finally separated.

"Rach, you were incredible." Quinn said sincerely.

"Where's Chloe?" Rachel hated bring it up but felt rude if she didn't acknowledge the redhead's absence.

"She meeting her friends. Last minute thing again. She enjoyed the show also and wanted to thank you."

"It's no problem. Do you want to go do something?" Rachel asked.

"Sure." Quinn interlocked their fingers pulling Rachel towards the exit.

"So what do you say?" Beca asked excitingly.

Chloe looked dumbfounded.

"What? How is this possible?" Chloe asked.

"He's a friend and I'll told him all about you. He really wants to meet with you. It's just a meeting." Beca smiled.

"This is huge." Chloe said in awe.

"Yeah he just bought this gorgeous house and I knew he was looking around and I recommend you. Your designs are elegant and modern. He checked out your website and loved it."

"James Franco? We are talking about the same guy right?" Chloe asked.

Beca laughed.

"Yes."

"I can't believe this. Why did you do this for me?"

"You need to know how awesome you are. And you would love California."

"I have to go to California." Chloe realized.

"Yea. Is that a problem?"

"Well I'll be leaving Quinn.."

"Chloe, I think Quinn would understand. This is a big opportunity." Beca argued.

"Yeah. Your right." Chloe nodded.

"Is that a yes?" Beca asked.

Chloe bit her lip. She really didn't know if Quinn would be okay if she left for a week to LA. But she had to try this and if it didn't work than she would know and not keep wondering.

"Yeah. I'll do it."

Beca jumped up and hugged the redhead.

"I'm so excited."

Chloe wrapped her arms around the smaller girl.

"Yeah, me too." Chloe said wondering how Quinn's going to take the news.
