Chapter 7
A/N: Thanks for all the love for this story. I didn't think anyone go for a Chloe/Quinn pairing, so I'm happily surprised that you guys are enjoying it. I'm sorry for any mistakes.
"What is the reason on why you haven't told Quinn about your trip to California again?" Aubrey asked as she sat across from her long time friend in Chloe's office.
Chloe was preparing for her trip while also making sure that her company will still run smoothly without her presence at the office. This was the first time she was leaving Aubrey in charge and she couldn't help feeling a little unease.
Chloe pulled her eyes away from the computer screen, releasing a heavy sighed before looking at the blonde.
"I don't know." Chloe shrugged defeatedly.
She had never found the right time and now it's getting to the wire. She was leaving in two days. She felt really guilty about the trip. She didn't want to admit but she knows she accepted this job to spend some more time with Beca. The small brunette had left a week ago and her heart ache in her absence.
"We're trying to mend our relationship and I feel like all these opportunities keeps popping up for Chloe Designs resulting in me pushing her aside when I was the one asking to spend more quality time with each other. She's been wonderful and really giving me everything I asked for since I came back to the apartment. I guess I just feel guilty for not giving her the attention and appreciation back."
Aubrey has always envied Chloe's relationship with Quinn. Honestly, being single for so long Aubrey had come to envied anybody who has a relationship to begin with. But Quinn was the perfect girlfriend. She's a Yale graduate, has an amazing job, she is attentive and caring, charming, she's everything anybody would want in a partner. Yeah, she was upset in the beginning that Quinn was interested in Chloe and not her but Chloe and Quinn were a better match then she could ever be with Quinn. Which is why she doesn't get why Chloe and Quinn are having such a rough time.
She hoped they will figure it out soon. And they can go back to being disgustingly happy.
"Chloe, I think you underestimate Quinn. She will understand. This is a big opportunity. This trip has the potential in getting into bigger clients with bigger pockets." Aubrey coming to Quinn's defense.
"I know. But her best friend has already gone back to Flor..."
"Santana gone again?" Aubrey sat up straighter in her chair, surprised by the news.
"Yeah. Apparently there was some crisis that needed her to fly back sooner."
"I didn't get..." Aubrey stumbled.
"Aubrey, she's happily with Brittany." Chloe interrupted, giving her a knowing look.
"I know that." Aubrey huffed in her seat, crossing her arms. "And I don't what you're insinuating."
"Sure." Chloe rolled her eyes.
"It's not like they're married." Aubrey muttered under her breathe.
"What?" Chloe asked unable to make out the blonde's words.
"Nothing. I can make you a reservation tonight at her favorite restaurant and you can tell her there." Aubrey quickly changing the subject.
"I don't know." Chloe said hesitantly.
"You're leaving in two days. You need to tell her soon." Aubrey tried again to convince Chloe.
Aubrey was right. She had to get this over with and a public setting should make it easier.
"Fine. Make it for 8 tonight. I still have plenty of things to wrap up before I go." Chloe relented before going back to her computer screen.
Aubrey smiled brightly. She could single handily help bring back Chloe and Quinn's relationship on track.
"You're getting better." Brittany smiled proudly as she watched Quinn finished the dance routine.
"Yeah?" Quinn panting slightly as she returned the blonde smile.
Even though the reason Quinn had started dancing again was solely to hang out with Brittany and make sure she didn't feel neglected when the Latina was gone but she found out she has truly missed dancing and has enjoyed it more than she thought. Most of all she really enjoyed Brittany's company, she actually preferred it rather than Santana's.
"So how was Rachel's show?" Brittany asked casual handing Quinn her water bottle.
"She was so flawless. She was definitely born for the stage." Quinn replied wistfully before taking a sip of water.
"You know, we should go together, I know Rachel would love it." Quinn suggested eagerly.
She was excited for Brittany to see Rachel, but she also really want to go again. She didn't know if it was to see the show or see Rachel.
"I'd like that." Brittany happily accepted. "So how are you and Rachel?"
Falling into a budding friendship with Rachel was more seamless than Quinn had originally thought. It was nice and familiar. Rachel knew her more than Santana and Chloe combined. Rachel had become sort of a comfortable confidant to her. There was no tension like they had existed in the past. She wonders why they were never able to do this in high school. Everything in high schools seemed so trivial and unimportant now. It was almost as it was all a fading dream.
They were adults now.
More mature.
More reasonable.
She was worried that Chloe might have an issue with her spending time with Rachel but the redhead had assure her that she was completely fine and actually really supportive of it. They shouldn't let the past get in the way of getting to know each other as adults.
"We are actually really good. I mean, being friends with her is something that I felt I was missing. I miss having her around and making her smile..." Quinn trailed off when she noticed Brittany raising her eyebrows.
"What?" Quinn asked curiously.
"You still love her." Brittany grinning from ear to ear.
Quinn stepped back in shock at the accusation.
"I do not." Quinn replied incredulously. "I love Chloe."
"Well, duh. But you and Rachel are each others..."
"Stop." Quinn held her hand up.
"What?" Brittany feign innocence that she pulls off so well.
"Rachel and I are friends. It's actually very nice. And it made me realize maybe we are better off being just friends. It's less complicated." Quinn said sternly.
"I can never be just friends with Santana." Brittany shrugged.
"Everyone can't be as lucky as you and Santana." Quinn rolled her eyes playfully. She remember having a similar conversation with Santana.
"Yes, you can." Brittany said as if it was the easiest thing in the world.
"Can we please talk about something else?" Quinn groaned. She could never win an argument with Brittany, so it was best if she change the subject.
"Okay, how's Chloe?"
"Great. I think her spending time with her old friends was just what she needed. Since then we have been better than ever." Quinn smiled before she hears her phone buzzing.
"Speaking of Chloe." Quinn reads the texts and quickly replies back.
"Sexy text?" Brittany asked.
Quinn laughed.
"No, just dinner plans. She wants to take me to Ellie's tonight."
"You're favorite? Maybe she has to tell you something important. Maybe she's pregnant?"
Quinn starting choking on her water.
"That's funny. You can't even get her pregnant, and you can't help but freak out by the thought alone." Brittany laughed at Quinn's dramatic reaction.
"That's not why and It's not funny. And why does she have to have a reason to take me to my favorite restaurant." Quinn glared lightly while putting her phone away.
"The one night I borrow you're Jimmy Choo's, I lost them in the park because I distracted by the ducks. I knew you were going to be upset, so the next day I brought a BLT sandwich from Ellie's. You completely forgot about it."
"What?" Quinn asked completely shocked as if she has heard of this for the first time.
"Yeah. You're obsession of bacon is insane." Brittany laughed.
"Why were you at the...you know what never mind. You owe me a pair of Jimmy Choo's."
"I'm just saying, if I had an important thing to tell you and I didn't want you to get upset, my solution is bacon or steak. Any type of food really."
Quinn shook her head.
She will never understand her friend.
"How was your day?" Quinn asked as the walked side by side to the restaurant.
Chloe groaned.
"If I have to hear Aubrey talk about Santana again, I think I might put a lock on my office and just communicate with her through intercom. That way I can just shut it off whenever I want."
"That infatuation is still going on then?" Quinn joked.
"We need to find her someone. It's driving me insane."
Quinn smiled as she put her arm around Chloe's shoulder and planted a loving kiss on top of her head out of sympathy.
"We would have to find someone insane enough to put up with Aubrey." Quinn said as she opened the door to the restaurant and signal Chloe to go inside first who went straight to the hostess to get seated.
"Hi, we have a reservat-" Before Chloe could finished someone roughly bumping into her side, almost causing her to stumble to the floor.
"I need a table for two in the worst possible table. Maybe near the toilettes if available." The man said with a nasty smug on his face.
Quinn scowled at the unapologetic man before checking if her girlfriend was okay, who signal that she was fine. Chloe interlocked her fingers tightly with the blonde from keeping her from making a scene.
"I think we found someone for Aubrey." Quinn muttered under her breath.
Chloe hears the blonde's comments and lightly scolds her by nudging her in the ribs.
"What?" Quinn asked playfully.
"Sure. Right this way." The hostess grabbed the menus and lead the unnamed man towards the table.
Quinn scoffed when she sees him obviously leering at the hostess backside as he followed her to the table.
"Why would he want a horrible table." Chloe asked curiously.
"I don't know. But he went a little overboard with the cologne didn't he?"
"I feel sorry for whoever he's meeting with." Chloe said.
Before Quinn could respond the hostess has returned and was now taking them to their own table. Once they were seated, they had forgotten all about the unfortunate encounter. Quinn was seated facing the entrance as Chloe had taken the seat across from her.
"So, are you going to order the steak as usual?" Chloe asked as she casually went over the menu.
Quinn frowned at the question. Brittany had really put some ideas in her head. Even though she finds it completely ridiculous that she can be distracted by food, something was telling her to order something different tonight.
"Um..I don't know...maybe I'll try something new." Quinn answered casually.
"Oh?" Chloe asked trying to hide her surprise.
"Well, with all this dancing, I figure I need to change my diet a little."
"Your body is getting really tone." Chloe flirted.
"You've noticed?" Quinn quirked her eyebrows.
"How can I not?" Chloe weak spot has always been Quinn's tone stomach.
Quinn smiled tightly as to hide her confusion. They haven't flirted like this in awhile. Ever since the incident at Santana's and Brittany's.
Another red flag.
When their waitress came back, they put in their order. Quinn had changed it up and settled for a simple chicken salad, which made Chloe a little nervous.
"You look like you want to tell me something." Quinn pointed out after the waitress left the table.
Chloe licked her lips nervously and reached across the table to hold the blonde's hand.
"I do have something important to tell you. You know that I love you." Chloe smiled rubbing her fingers gently across her girlfriend's hand.
"I love you too." Quinn smiled encouragingly.
"You know that Chloe Designs has been growing."
"And I couldn't be more proud of you." Quinn smiled squeezing the redhead's hand.
"There is a possibility..."
Quinn glanced up away from the conversation when she saw someone enter the restaurant.
Not just anyone but Rachel.
Quinn could always feel her presence and she looks radiant as ever. Quinn was a little confused why Rachel would be here as Quinn knows there are limited choices for a person with a vegan diet. She furrowed her brow even deeper when her eyes followed the small brunette who was heading towards the back and sat down across the man who had rudely bumped into her girlfriend earlier. She felt jealousy surge right through her.
"Quinn?" Chloe called out when she realized the blonde wasn't listening to her anymore.
"I'm sorry." Quinn snapped her head back to Chloe.
"I was trying to tell you something. What has gotten you distracted?" Chloe asked.
"Um..." Quinn stumbled.
"Here's is your chicken salad."
Quinn sighed gratefully for their waitress perfect timing.
"And your steak well-done." She said before sliding the plate towards the redhead.
Chloe had ordered the steak in case Quinn decided to change her mind.
"Enjoy." The waitress smiled before leaving the table.
Quinn peaked to left where Rachel was seated and notice how uncomfortable the brunette seemed to be. Quinn had never liked seeing Rachel with someone else. And it always seemed that Rachel had a taste for jerks.
"So there was something you wanted to tell me?" Quinn asked trying to get her mind off Rachel.
"Nothing important. Let's just enjoy our meal for right now." Chloe smiled hesitantly as her nerves got the best of her.
It didn't seem like a good time.
"Why you get the steak?" Quinn asked casually.
"You always make it look so good." Chloe replied shrugging her shoulder nonchalantly.
"Hmm." Quinn hummed not quite believing her but decide not to press it anymore.
Quinn couldn't help herself as she found her eyes constantly subtly glancing at the table to her left. Rachel's date has been openly hitting on the waitress. He has no table manners. He was eating loudly with his mouth opened. He hasn't paid any attention to the gorgeous brunette sitting right in front of him. Her jealousy was quickly turning in to anger by how poorly this man was treating Rachel.
She doesn't know why she's cares so much about Rachel and her date or why she hasn't mention to Chloe that Rachel was also at the restaurant.
Something was off to her.
If this guy knew anything about Rachel, why would he bring her here?
Is this a blind date?
Why is he acting like an ass?
He should feel lucky that Rachel has given him the time or day?
Quinn finally sees Rachel's date stand up without saying anything to Rachel and head towards the bathroom.
Before she knew it, she was standing up as well.
"Where are you going?" Chloe asked.
"Restroom. I'll be a second." Quinn answered before leaving the table.
Quinn slowing walked towards the restroom. Not immediately spotting him, Quinn figured he was already inside the men's room. Quinn causally looked around if anyone was looking this way before slowly opening the door to find the man she was looking for was on the phone.
"I'm about to ditch her." Quinn overhears.
"She's very dull and boring. I've done what you asked and i'm expected to be paid tonight."
Quinn clenched her fist tightly.
"Yes. She's having an awful time."
Quinn has heard enough.
She starts fuming as she heads back to her seat.
"Is everything all right? You been kind of out of it tonight." Chloe asked when Quinn return to their table.
"Wonderful. I'll have that steak now. I know you ordered it for me." Quinn said switching their plates.
"Do you blame me? You haven't even touch your salad." Chloe smiled knowingly.
Quinn returned her smile.
As much as she wanted to get involved, she was trying to tell herself not to. It was none of her business. So she focus on her time with Chloe. Like she should have.
"You know me so well." Quinn said.
She shakes her head softly when she noticed Rachel's date trying to slip out of the restaurant without being noticed.
Quinn sighed heavily when she looked at Rachel sitting awkwardly be herself.
She couldn't help but feel bad for Rachel. She always had awful choices in men.
"Okay, honestly I've been nervous to tell you all night, but I really need to tell you something important."
"You're not pregnant, are you?" Quinn eyes widen as she turned to face her girlfriend.
"No! Quinn! How is that even possible?" Chloe said, sightly offended.
She unconsciously smooth her dress. She won't be wearing this outfit again.
"I'm sorry. Something Brittany said earlier got stuck in my head."
"Britney thought I was pregnant?"
"No! Not at all. You know Brittany. It was really nonsense talk. I didn't really follow what she was saying actually." Quinn said as she was still fighting herself no to get up and do something.
Why was Rachel still sitting there?
Quinn knew if she was going to do something, she needs to make up her mind and do it.
But what?
What could she do?
Should she asked her to join her and Chloe, so she wouldn't be alone?
She could see in the corner of her eye that Rachel put her head down slightly. Quinn knows that was a signal that Rachel unconsciously does before she was about to cry. Her heart tighten painfully at the sight.
"Whatever, what I'm trying to tell you is..." Chloe was interrupted again.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I'll be right back." Quinn apologized before getting up and walking out to hopefully catch Rachel's date. She didn't know what she was about to do, but she had to do something. She couldn't stand the sight of Rachel crying.
"Quinn!" Chloe called out, not believing that Quinn just left her.
Quinn exhaled as the night cool air hit her face. She had absolutely no idea what she was planning to do. She just reacted. She felt like she needed to do something.
Quinn looked around to see what way he had might of gone until she saw him wave down a taxi. She ran as fast as she could trying to catch the guy before he got in.
"Hey, what are you doing?" He said as he felt someone grab his arm. "Who are you?"
"Here's 20, we're sorry for your inconvenience." Quinn paid the taxi before hauling the man to the sidewalk.
"How are you so freakishly strong?" He asked the stranger as he struggle in her grip. He couldn't believed he was being manhandled by a women.
A very pretty woman.
Quinn slammed him towards the wall.
"What you want? I have no money." He asked slightly afraid as the impact had hurt him harder than he thought.
"I don't want your money." Quinn rolled her eyes.
"What is your issue then? Did you miss the cock and want to leave your girlfriend." He said smugly as he remember her from earlier.
Quinn slammed him harder into the wall.
"Damn." He cried.
"Shut your mouth." Quinn demanded.
"Why are you bring awful to Rachel?"
"Who's Rachel?" He asked confused.
"Your date." Quinn spat out.
"Is that her name? I didn't catch it."
Quinn grabbed him again.
"Okay, okay..wait.." He said not waiting to feel anymore pain.
Quinn raised her eyebrows waiting for a response.
"Another Broadway actress paid me to treat her to the most horrible date."
"Why would she do that?" Quinn asked confused.
"I don't know. You know actresses. Jealousy. Rachel got the role that she wanted. That's all I know. There's a lot of backstabbing in their world."
"So what? You take Rachel on an awful date and embarrass her and then what? Are you guys in high school?" Quinn not believing how childish this was.
"Well I think it was step one of tearing her down. You know get her really insecure. And then more was to come."
Quinn laughed not humored at all by their idiotic plan.
"How much was she paying you?"
"200"
"Here's 500. You go back in there and apologize for being such an ass. Take her to a vegan restaurant and be as charming as you've ever been and never see her again. And warn..what was her name. The woman who sent you?"
"Chelsea Wolfe."
Quinn repeated the name in her head so she wouldn't forget.
"You tell Chelsea Wolfe not to mess with Rachel again. Tell her this is a warning and I will not be merciful if she plans something like this again. Do you hear me?" Quinn has not loss any of her HBIC attitude.
He was literally shaken by the tone of her voice. He had no idea who this girl was but he knew that he would be wise not to mess with her.
"Yes. I'm sorry. I was...
"What is your name?" Quinn interrupted.
"Parker Ramsey."
"So Parker..." Quinn fixed his collar. "Do we have a deal?"
He nodded frighteningly.
"And don't mention any of this to Rachel."
Quinn walked back into the restaurant and slid back in her seat as she watch Parker enter the restaurant a few moments after her. She had kept her eyes on him to make sure he was following through of what they discussed. But right as Quinn had settled into her seat Chloe stood up.
"Chloe wait!" Quinn said mirroring her actions.
Quinn realized what an idiot she has been. She was no better than Parker. She had abandon her own date.
"What?" Chloe asked fuming.
"I'm sorry." Quinn quickly glanced behind the redhead and was happy to the the pair leave the restaurant and Rachel didn't seem upset anymore. Rachel was always so forgiving.
"I can't believe you just left. I was trying to tell you something all night." Chloe said upset as she turned on her heels to leave.
"Chloe, wait...I..." Quinn reached in her pockets to pay the meal, but slowly realized that she gave everything she had to Parker and she didn't have her credit card on her.
Chloe turned around, facing the blonde with her hands on her hips, waiting for an explanation.
"I forgot my purse." Quinn cringed in embarrassment and also the lie she had committed.
Chloe huffed and walked back to their table to throw cash down then walked past Quinn without a word.
Quinn sighed heavily before racing outside to catch Chloe.
"Chloe, just wait. Let me explained." Quinn pleaded.
"Explained what?" Chloe asked as she continued to walk away.
Quinn sprinted towards the redhead and lightly grab her hand to get her to stop.
"Just stop for a minute." Quinn said.
"Why did you leave?" Chloe asked.
Quinn didn't want to lie, but she didn't want to reveal the real reason.
"I had a small chat with the guy that rudely bumped into you earlier." Quinn admitted, which was a true statement.
"Quinn, I'm fine." Chloe sighed in irritation.
"It was stupid. I'm sorry." Quinn apologized.
"You didn't have to do that." Chloe expression soften, anger quickly disappearing from her fear.
Quinn was always so protective of her.
"I couldn't help myself. I'm sorry that I just left but I saw him leave and I just reacted."
That also was some form of the truth.
Chloe sighed as she softly cupped the blonde face and gently place a small kiss on her lips.
"You're not mad." Quinn whispered as she pressed their foreheads together while wrapping her arms around Chloe's waist.
"If you promise that you won't get mad for what about to tell you." Chloe said.
"What do you need to tell me?" Quinn frowned slightly.
Chloe rubbed her forehead, smoothing the invisible wrinkles. Quinn smiled softly at the gesture. Chloe always hated when she frowns.
"I just picked up a a consulting job for a big client."
Quinn wrapped her arms around Chloe, pulling her into a tight embrace.
"That's amazing. I'm so proud of you!" Quinn gushes with pride.
Chloe's heart warms at the excitement vibrating from her girlfriend and recuperated the hug by wrapping her arms around the blonde's neck.
"Is this what dinner was all about? Now, I feel really horrible. We should go celebrate. I promise no more distractions." Quinn asked suddenly feeling really guilty.
Chloe buries her head in the blonde's neck keeping her close for comfort. She took a second to inhale the blonde's perfume. She always loved the way Quinn smelled. It always made her fell safe and secure.
Quinn went to pull back from the hug, but Chloe held on tighter not letting her go.
"It's in California." Chloe quickly whispered, shutting her eyes tightly.
She could already feel Quinn loosening her hold around her but she still didn't let go of Quinn. Quinn allowed it for the moment.
"California? When? For how long?" Quinn was slightly caught off guard.
"I leave Saturday."
Quinn releases her hold on the redhead and takes a step back. Chloe misses the warmth immediately.
"That's in two day." Quinn slowly trying to take this all in.
"Yeah. Just for a couple of days. 4 days to be exact. It's just consulting. Nothing else." Chloe tried to reason.
Chloe swallows nervously as she watch Quinn slowly processing the information. Quinn has always been very supportive of her business but she never had to leave the state.
"Okay." Quinn said slowly.
"Okay?" Chloe looked at her with uncertainty.
The confusion on the blonde's face has dissipated into happiness.
"Yeah." Quinn smiled and had her arms out with excitement.
Chloe sighed with relief and contentment.
"I mean, it's going to be miserable with you gone, but this is amazing for Chloe Designs. You are incredible and I have no doubt that you'll impress..."
Chloe quickly closed the gap between them and possessed Quinn's lips with her own in a kiss that was searing in its pure intensity.
Aubrey was right, Quinn was so understanding and supportive. She doesn't know what she was thinking. She felt like a big weight has lifted off her shoulder. All thoughts about her little crush on Beca flew right out of her head. She had the most beautiful, amazing, girlfriend in the world.
Quinn slowly walked forward, pressing the redhead's back against the wall without breaking contact. Chloe tangled her hands in the blonde soft mane, pulling her closer when she felt the sensation of the blonde's tongue meeting hers in a sensual dance. She moan softly when Quinn softly bit down on her bottom lip.
Reluctantly parting from the blonde's lips, Chloe's took a much needed breath.
"I love you so much." Chloe smiled against the blonde's cheek as Quinn dived towards her neck, placing small kisses.
"I love you too." Quinn whispered before recapturing her lips.
"Take me home." Chloe whispered staring lustfully into hazel eyes.
She grabs Chloe's hands and entwine their fingers as she quickly leads the redhead with her to hail a cab.
