I own nothing except the plot and Blaze.
I still have no beta, so there might be few mistakes.
Sorry for practically abandoning the story!
Italics are for words spoken in Japanese.
I'm pretty sure I left everyone in shock.
Or was that disgust on their faces? I don't care either way, I'm hungry and no judgmental people will keep me away from my food. Just to reassure you guys, no, I'm not eating like a caveman; I actually have manners, believe it or not.
Ryuzaki ordered one of everything on the menu, only keeping the desserts for himself.
I was more than grateful that he was staying a five-star hotel; the food is heaven. I could have died right now and have no regrets. Other than not being able to rub it in the Flock's faces.
"How c-can you eat so much?" Matsuda asked.
I licked cream of my thumb. "I told you. I need tons of calories. When I fly, the calories burn quickly, and combined with a high metabolism, I'm practically starving all the time." I said, taking a bite out of my burger.
"Then how did you survive out on the streets?" Aizawa frowned.
I shrugged. "At first we had a bit of money, but that ran out. Then we found a credit card that was for Max. We've used that up 'til now. Before that, we had to live off dumpster diving behind restaurants."
Most of the men frowned in disgust. I narrowed my eyes. "Hey, don't judge us, just because we did what we had to survive, and I did not want to roast an animal." I bit my food, ending the conversation.
Ryuzaki poured spoonfuls of sugar in his coffee. "Don't you find it a bit suspicious at finding a credit card, with your friend's name on it?"
I blinked in surprise. "I...we never thought much about it really. Everyone was just glad we didn't have to steal food anymore." I cleared my throat. "Anyways, what's up with this Kira guy? You here to catch him or something?"
He nodded, staring intently as he slowly poured sugar. "Yes."
I waited for him to elaborate, but he seemed to dismiss my curiosity.
I sighed. "So how long did you say I had to stay with you? I'm pretty sure you don't need the task of babysitting me along with trying to catch Kira."
"As I said before, you will stay here until I deem you are not in any way involved with Kira. You will be easy to watch because I will have you in my sights every hour of the day."
"And how will you do that?" I raised an eyebrow. "It's not like you can come in whenever I go into the restroom." I leaned on my hand and lazily poked at my salad.
"I shall if necessary."
"Huh?"
[CLICK]
I jumped in surprise and stared at my wrist. Ryuzaki had caught me off guard and actually put a single handcuff on my right arm. Following the long chain, the other cuff was on his left arm.
"W-what is this?!" I spluttered.
"This, is a handcuff." Ryuzaki answered calmly.
"I know what a handcuff is!" I exclaimed. "I mean, why am I handcuffed?! And to you?!"
"This is how I will keep an eye on you. From now on, you won't be able to go five feet without me."
I glared at him. "And if I need to use the restroom? Shower? Sleep?"
"Then I will turn around while you do your business, and will be near you when you sleep." He said bluntly.
I blushed horribly. "R-r-ryuzaki!"
The other men tried to contain their mirth at my embarrassment. Aizawa and Matsuda outright laughed at me.
Ryuzaki titled his head. "I do not see how this is embarrassing to you. If you were on the streets, that meant there were many times where you didn't have the luxury of having privacy while using the bathroom or shower."
"Yes! But they're family! You're a stranger, you pervert!" My face felt scorching hot. This had to be the most embarrassing moment in my life.
After that little scandal, things got serious. They went back to 'work', which was just analyzing security tapes multiple times, trying to catch anything that would be a lead in the case.
Ryuzaki didn't want me to be there while they looked at the taped, but he didn't want me to be out of his sight, and he also wanted to study the tapes.
So here I was, straining my eyes to stay open and gazing at multiple screens in the dark. This was seriously going to affect my eyesight.
All around the room were dozens of security footage that Watari had managed to get. One by one, Mr. Yagami, Matsuda, Aizawa, L, and I watched the footage, then did so again. And again. And again. You get my point.
The others were at the police station, since somebody had to keep up the act.
"That was footage that was coincidentally captured on the surveillance cameras of the FBI agents who died in Japan." Aizawa muttered, rubbing his eyes.
"Please show me only the scenes of Raye Penber, passing the ticket gate, riding the train, and then dying." Ryuzaki ordered, taking a bite our of his ice cream.
"Okay." Aizawa got up and searched for the right tape. "Let's see..."
"I think it's next to that." Matsuda pointed.
"Oh, here it is." He grabbed the tape and pushed it into the VCR.
Matsuda stared at the paper in his hands. "So based on the records I have here, Raye Penber enters through the west entrance of Shinjuku Station at 3:11 P.M. Then at 3:13, he boards a train on the Yamanote Line. But even if he was following someone, it would be difficult to conclude anything from this blurry video."
Watari, meanwhile, was scooping ice cream and placing them on cones. He handed me one, and I reluctantly thanked him. I was still kind of angry that he shot me, but he was making it so hard by acting so grandfatherly and stuff.
"Then at exactly 4:42-Oh, thank you Watari." Matsuda accepted the cone. "And at 4:42 P.M., he gets off and dies at the Tokyo Station Platform."
"It's quite strange, isn't it?" Ryuzaki commented.
"Hm?"
"Judging by this footage, from the time that Raye Penber got on the train until his death, he had been on the train for an hour and a half. The Yamanote Line only takes an hour...That envelope is especially strange."
"Uh, what envelope?" Aizawa asked.
Ryuzaki rewinded the footage. "He's holding that envelope as he enters the ticket gate and reaches the platform."
"Huh, you're right, he's carrying it." Aizawa leaned closer to see the screen. "But by the time he dies...it's gone! I can't believe you actually caught that."
"An envelope isn't on the list of the articles he left behind." Yagami noted.
"Which means it was left on the train." Ryuzaki concluded.
I frowned thoughtfully. "But, I thought FBI agents aren't suppose to be forgetful? Don't they only leave stuff behind if they're passing information to other people?" That always happen in those spy movies I used to watch.
"Yes, well, if you look very closely here, it looks to me as if he's straining to see into the train before the doors close." He bit his thumb. "Wouldn't it be interesting if Kira was there?"
"That's impossible!" Yagami denied.
"I admit I find it hard to believe it as well, but, Blaze has a point."
"I do?"
"She does?"
"Yes. It is very unlike for an agent to forget items, but there are many times where they seemingly leave their belongings in an attempt to discreetly pass information to somebody else...What if Kira was at his own crime scene, to grab the envelope Penber left behind? It probably contained confidential files, and that would be how Kira got the names of the FBI agents."
"So Raye Penber was a traitor?" I guessed.
"No. While it is a possible theory that Penber was an accomplice to Kira, and Kira disposed of him, there is no evidence that Penber was seen with with anyone suspicious the moment he arrived in Japan. It could be that Kira somehow contacted Penber and threatened him to help him."
"How can you be sure?" Matsuda asked.
"It is simply a theory. We can not be fully informed of what happened."
I stared at the white ceiling and took a deep breath.
"So...You're just going to sit there for the rest of the night...watching me sleep." I stated, turning my head to Ryuzaki.
He was on the other side of the bed, in his usual crouch, typing away at his laptop.
"No. I have no interest watching you sleep. I will keep working on my computer." He replied.
"And when will you go to sleep?"
"I rarely go to sleep. I could be finishing multiple cases in the amount of time I wasted it sleeping."
I frowned. "You should take a break every while. Don't be so hard on yourself." I got underneath the covers and laid on my stomach.
"Do you sleep that way to prevent hurting your wings?" He asked me, eyeing my back.
I rolled my eyes. "Yes. My wings get very cramped and sore if I lay on them for too long. Goodnight Ryuzaki."
"Goodnight Blaze."
Maybe I would learn to like it here.
A/N: Oh my gosh, I made a mistake! I didn't realize until now! I didn't explain about the flyboys! I made Blaze talk about the erasers, but I completely forgot about how she got chased by Flyboys. Forgive me on that mistake.
Sorry it took me more that five months to get this out.
Hoped you like this chapter. Not much happened, and I didn't want to add any romance between Blaze and L. It's too early for that.
Most of the conversation is from the anime, with the thing about the agents my input. It seemed to me what anyone could point out and with that, L most likely could make that assumption.
Sorry if I made L sound weird. It's hard trying to write him since he's so smart and calculates everything.
