Saria looked up at the stars as they went by slowly. She had made it a habit to sneak out every night and look at the ocean against the light of the stars and moon. Everything glimmered and shined brightly, and the music of the ocean waves was amazing to her ears.
"Pretty isn't it?" Came a voice from behind her. Saria nearly jumped out of her skin when she heard Erick's voice and turned around.
"Oh...hah, you scared me." Saria said, smiling at him.
"No shit. You like to sneak out too huh?" Erick said, leaning on the linings of the ship. Saria leaned on them next to him and nodded, smiling at the scenery.
"What about you? Are you here for the scene too?" Saria asked. Erick looked at her and nodded. Both of them didn't realize it, but they were blushing slightly.
"Yeah, mostly. I like to be alone for most of the time, just being in the silence of it all." Erick said.
"Oh, a-I'm sorry. Would you like me to leave?" Saria asked, concerned that she was invading Erick's space.
"N-No! Not at all...I uh...well, I could use the company..." Erick mustered out, embarrassed. Saria sighed in relief and smiled.
"Oh good. I got worried that I was bothering you. I like your company anyway." Saria said, smiling at him.
"I-Is that so? Hah...I like it when you're with me too..." Erick said, blushing a bright red under the shadow of his clothes. The both of them had a silent and pleasant conversation, mostly admiring the scenery before them. Then, as the moon rose high, they finally went back to their rooms and slept.
~ In Ailith's room ~
Ailith barely dodged an attack from the giant serpent woman and punched her in the gut with whatever remaining power she had. This threw the serpent woman back and she collided into an aquatic monster.
Ailith looked around and saw the blood of her comrades spilled all over the floor. However they, like her, were still fighting beyond their body's capacity. All of their bodies were already beaten, battered, and bled profusely.
She looked over to Leon, who was already failing. He was fighting a giant monster and a man clad in armor ran up beside him, ready to strike. She ran with all her strength to protect him from an incoming strike from the man clad in armor.
"LEON!" Ailith yelled out and pushed him aside and then...
~~O~~
Ailith got up with a jerk, her body trembling uncontrollably and her eyes close to tears. She looked at the knight before her and then looked down to see her stomach impaled by a giant sword. She felt the blood gushing from her stomach and the pain surging through her body and closed her eyes. As soon as she opened them again, the blood was gone and she was in her room again, although a bit of the pain still remained. It didn't feel at all like she was closing her eyes through any of her 'dream' and if she wasn't even sure if she did.
"So you remember? Sadly that's...the horrible truth. It's okay, didn't you see me fighting with you?" Claude said, sitting on her bed. Ailith just looked at him with terrified eyes, and backed away. She looked almost like she was going to cry.
"What...How do you know what I saw in the nightmare!? What exactly do you know!?" Ailith almost yelled, her expression clearly showing that she was close to tears. Claude smiled gently and looked down.
"Still think it's a nightmare? That's rather naive Ai...If it was so vivid, if even I know what you saw, if you felt everything...do you really think it wasn't real?" Claude said and got up, silently walking towards the door.
"W-wait!" Ailith suddenly said and then Claude stopped, looking at her but not turning his back.
"Yes?" He asked but she just frowned. She was shocked, horrified and upset, and her eyes clearly showed fear.
"...a..." Ailith tried her best to speak, but could only muster a whimper. Claude smiled and nodded, silently coming towards her.
"Okay." Claude whispered and lied down beside Ailith in the bed. He faced the opposite way however, and they both stayed silent until eventually, they fell asleep.
~ The Morning After ~
"Hey, Ai! Wake up, we can't find-OHHH...man..." Saria said, opening the door and seeing Claude in Ailith's bed. "Well now, I'll just quietly go back to the farthest part of the ship...and leave forever." She mumbled to herself, quietly closing the door and walking away. Leon and Erick walked towards her and sighed.
"Did you find him?" Leon asked, sighing. Saria shook her head and sighed as well. Then, all of them sighed at the same time.
"Well, I'm sure he'll turn up sooner or later." Saria said, trying to cheer the boys up.
"Is Ailith awake?" Erick asked.
"Uh, no. She's still fast asleep actually." Saria said. Erick raised his eyebrow, and headed for the door.
"You didn't wake her up yet? Oh wait, let me do it instead." Erick said and then walked past Saria. She immediately walked in front of Erick, blocking him from the room.
"OH! Uh, no. I-I think, um...but she's in such a peaceful sleep! Please don't wake her up!" Saria said nervously. However, this didn't stop Erick, and he continued walking towards the door. Although by now he could already tell what was going to happen.
Saria winced when Erick opened the door and began shaking with anger, because Claude was in Ailith's bed. He went up and kicked Claude off, also waking Ailith.
"Whoa buddy...what? Oh. Uh, wait it wasn't what it looked like! I-I wasn't...I-I didn't-" Claude tried to explain but was cut off by Erick's yell.
"I'M NOT TAKING EXCUSES! SHE WAS ALONE WHEN SHE FELL ASLEEP LAST NIGHT! I MADE SURE!" Erick yelled in frustration. Ailith just raised her eyebrow at him.
"You...watched me in secret until I fell asleep?" Ailith asked, very disturbed.
"YES, I WAS UNDERNEATH THE BED!" Erick just yelled again and then turned his attention to Claude. He raised his fist but then Leon went to block him from Claude, giving puppy eyes. Erick hesitated for a bit, but then slammed his fist on Leon's face.
"Stop it!" Saria yelled and hugged Erick. He lowered his fist and sighed. Leon and Claude both snickered at each other.
~ Some Time Later ~
"So what were you doing there anyway? You can tell me, I won't blame you for anything." Erick asked Ailith who just sighed.
"Well, I...I had a nightmare last night. I...Claude heard me when I was having the nightmare...and came in to see if I was okay and I...I asked him to stay with me. So, he did." Ailith said and then Erick frowned.
"Why the hell would you ask HIM to stay with you? You're a horrible liar. Tell me what really happened Ai." Erick said, his tone turning gentle.
"It had nothing to do with Claude...I...I don't know what it was...I-I was stabbed last night...I felt the life draining from me...the pain, the fear, the sorrow, the blood gushing from my stomach...everything..." Ailith said, falling to the floor. She began sobbing and then Erick picked her up gently.
"Okay. Tell me everything." Erick said and then Ailith nodded.
"Last night I saw...what looked like us fighting in some sort of...some sort of ruined castle. We were fighting four monsters and...a knight. One of them was Lich, I'm sure of it. As for the knight...I couldn't quite see. We fought him and we...we lost. I protected Leon from him and I got stabbed...but by then everyone was...it was hopeless. It didn't look like we were ever going to win. When I blinked, I was back in the room..." Ailith said sadly.
"And that's when Claude heard you and went into your room isn't it? Your rooms are right next to each other so it's not surprising. As for the nightmare...Well I won't say I'm totally convinced, but I'll believe, for your sake. Get up now, we should talk about this to everyone and-" Erick said, but was cut off by someone yelling from behind him.
"NO NEED! WE WERE EAVESDROPPING! I confessed! Don't kill me!" Leon yelled, raising his arms and popping up from behind the door. They got seated and Saria prepared them their breakfast.
"Where's Claude?" Erick mumbled to himself and then asked out loud.
"Huh? Oh he's upstairs steering the ship. Why?" Saria asked and then Erick suddenly looked up.
"...Nothing. Let's have breakfast." Erick said. They all ate and discussed with Ailith about her memory.
