Disclaimer: S.E. Hinton owns all rights and creative genius in The Outsiders. Sadly, I don't own Ponyboy nor am I dating him (I wish I was!) and I also do not profit from anything or own any of her writing or the any of her characters. I am just borrowing them fun and get no profit besides reviews.
A/N: Cherry will be in this. The movie incident had already happened. So, Two-Bit and Dallas know about her. Cherry is fifteen years old because this is pre-book. I hope that makes sense to ya'll.
Darry's POV
We made it to the hospital in record time. We went up to the all-to-familiar Oncology ward and Ponyboy's Doctor saw us. He motioned for Ponyboy to follow him. Ponyboy complied and followed him to one of the many back rooms.
"What happened Soda?" I asked him. He shrugged lightly, concern for his brother written on his face.
"I don't know. I woke up to him coughing and he had a fever." He explained, a bit of guilt written on his face. I knew how Pony had gotten sick and I knew no matter what I said Soda would blame himself.
"He'll be okay Soda." I reassured him. He nodded somberly. He glanced at the clock hanging on the wall.
"I got to go to work in two hours. Should I call my boss? Who's going to stay with him tomorrow?" Soda asked.
"Probably Dallas I guess. We can't afford a day off between all these hospital bills that are piling up." I told him truthfully.
We were drowning in bills. The insurance would pay half but the Doctor said that chemo was about $20,000 a year. That was ten grand I didn't have. I had $1,000 in savings from mom and dad. Even with everything we could save on I was still six grand short.
I was going to have to bite the bullet and talk to some charities. I had no choice. I knew that no charity had the six grand we needed.
Two-Bits POV
Everybody was talking about Ponyboy at school. Even some Socs were taking about him.
I was sitting at the Curtis's house when there was a knock at the door.
I opened it up and Saw Cherry Valace. Her eyes were red from crying.
"Is it true?" She asked quietly. I k ew what she was talking about and nodded wordlessly. She put her hands over her eyes and sniffed.
"Oh my gosh. I-I didn't want to believe it. Can I do anything?" She asked. I shrugged.
"I don't want to pry, but, how are they doing, you know, money wise." She asked carefully. I knew she wasn't being rude.
"Not good. By the end of his chemo, which is one year, there out about six grand. The insurance pays half and that's al they have in savings." Her eyes widened when I said six grand.
Suddenly, she smiled.
"I've got an idea. But, I'll need your help." She told me. I nodded, excited to do anything to help. Steve was clocking in under Sodapop's name and so far Soda knew but not Darry. I smiled as I listened to her idea.
Dallas's POV
I woke up to the sound of loud knocking. I pushed myself out of bed and answered the door crankily.
"What?" I growled. I was met with the anxious face of Darrel Curtis. I knew something bad had happened by just looking at jus face. Superman's ice cold eyes have melted into puddles of true feeling of worry.
"What happened?" I asked.
"Ponyboy is sick at the hospital and I really want someone to stay with him while Soda and I are at work. Could you watch him?" He asked. I nodded, why not? I grabbed my shirt and went to the lot to grab Johnnycakes before heading over to the unfortunately all-to-familiar Tulsa Regional Hospital.
Babysitting the kid isn't exactly how I thought I'd spend my Sunday, but, I'd do anything for the gang and if it means nursing a hangover at the hospital while winning some poker games, so be it.
A/N: Aww Dallas! ;) I'm not good in Dallas's POV. If he's ever OOC please tell me and I'll fix it for next time. R & R
