Okay, apparently I take forever in revealing anything. I will mention that there's a small part that talks about Hurricane Katrina and the flooding. I mean no harm whatsoever. It was mentioned in an episode of Criminal Minds and I used it in this. I really don't mean to upset anyone that was involved or knew someone involved with the storm. Also, I read over my previous chapters and I noticed some mistakes with timeline and such but I'm too lazy to fix. A lot of ideas came after the second and third chapters so it threw the story off a bit. Oh well.
Hazel eyes followed Dean as he walked past again, heading down another corridor as he searched the bunker for both Abby and Cas. As soon as Sam had said Cas was gone, his brother had looked in every room and hallway for the tiny woman and their friend but so far nothing. Dean was sure that Abby had stolen a few demon bombs but Sam wasn't convinced. Abby herself was a weapon so it didn't seem likely that she would need the glass jars. Cas on the other hand was human and didn't have any angel juice to help him fight off demons. Sam suspected he was the one to take the bombs.
Also some ingredients for creating hex bags were missing, especially ingredients to hide from angels. Considering Cas' knowledge of hex bags it wasn't that much of a stretch to say that the thievery had been done by him.
Dean thought the two runaways had escaped together but that also didn't make sense with how Abby seemed to react to Cas. Sam and Dean had watched the earlier conversation between the two and it was clear Abby was not a fan of their friend. Dean had told Sam about Ruth's grudge against Cas but maybe she wasn't the only one. Whatever Abby had said to Cas had really shocked him. Their dark-haired friend had stood frozen in the war room, eyes locked on the hallway Abby had disappeared though for roughly eight minutes. That's why it didn't make sense for the two of them to have escaped together.
After figuring out the two of them had run off, there'd been a mass search of the bunker for clues as to how they had escaped unnoticed. Everyone agreed on the garage being the exit. It was the one of the few places that had an external door and far away from the library where everyone had been. The missing motorcycle also let them know that someone had been here. Theo had confirmed that Abby knew how to ride a motorcycle and seeing as no one heard the engine start up, it was safe to assume she had used her telekinesis to get the bike out of the garage.
Sam watched as Dean appeared again, breezed past him, and ventured down to one of the few visited lower levels. He wondered when Dean would call it quits. Looking back at his laptop opened before him, Sam launched the customized search engine Charlie had fine tuned for them. He'd asked Theo if Abby had a middle name about ten minutes earlier, which the taller angel replied with a confused Valéria. A few swift keystrokes later Sam's laptop was hunting for information.
Abby had been so sure that Abaddon was at her old home, so convinced, that Sam figured it wouldn't hurt to at least check it out. A faint chime alerted him that the search was over but when he opened the files, Sam was a bit confused.
Sam had found Abby's school files but nothing before the age of five. According to her birth certificate Abby had been born in El Paso, Texas. Her mother, Severa Serrano, was twenty-six when she gave birth to Abby. Her father, a man named Asmund Tyr, was thirty. Seeing as Abby's mother was born in Mexico, it was safe to say that they had gone back to her home country, most likely back to Juarez.
First grade school files started in El Paso, with a Sarai Serrano as Abby's guardian, a likely Aunt on her mother's side. The date would roughly put Abby at five years old so this had to be after her mother's death but what had happened to her father? Did her mother only know the man's name and nothing else? No, Dean had said that her Dad and his side of the family were hunters. So he had to have been involved with Abby's upbringing or else the demons wouldn't have targeted them.
However, that left an important question. Between her mother and father, which one of Abby's parents was a demon? Or at least had been a demon at the time of conception. From what he remembered about the Cambion named Jesse, his mother had been possessed for the complete pregnancy, right up until the birth. But what if Asmund had been possessed? There were too many variables. Sam would need to do more research.
Seeing a familiar pattern with her school records, Sam was sure that Abby's Aunt had been running from someone, or probably something. The mother figure hadn't changed their names but she'd moved Abby between schools frequently, mostly during her elementary years, when she was most vulnerable. In primary alone, Abby had stayed at fourteen different schools scattered across the US. Sixth grade had been two institutes, while she had managed to stay at one location each for seventh and eighth grade.
As for high school, freshmen was spent at one site but Abby had managed to stay the rest of her scholastic career at one school. Chances are that by that time, Abby had a better handle on her abilities. Enough that she'd be able to take on any demon or even supernatural creature that came near her.
Getting to her college files, Sam was surprised to find several full-ride scholarships from over four dozen different universities and colleges all based around the US, with a handful of foreign schools overseas. Taking a peek at her SAT scores solved the riddle. They were practically begging Abby to attend their schools.
There were the regular suspects, University of's and State of's but also Ivy League schools like Dartmouth, Yale, Cornell, and Duke. Even a few from high profile technology institutes like Caltech were thrown in. It looked like she had been on seven college tours, the last one being Ohio University.
"What the hell…" Sam mumbled, spying the police alert. He clicked on the link, his eyebrows shooting up when seeing not one but two police reports. The first detailed that Abby had been approached by a professor after the Ohio tour. She'd told the police that he had first made it seem like he was curious about her possible majors but he had stepped too close and tried to place a hand on her lower hip. It had made Abby uncomfortable and she'd rebuffed him. The way Abby's rejection was described, "a shove even though the female hadn't moved," it was obvious she had pushed him away telekinetically. After the encounter Abby had gone to report it to the police but as Professor Cox was such a prominent figure in the community there was some doubt to Abby's claim. Arthur Cox? The name sounded familiar to Sam. He just couldn't remember from where.
Clicking on the second report, the words Disorderly Conduct and Harassment drew Sam's eye and he felt anger surge through him, prompting him to quickly read the report, this one taking place just two days after the other. Abby and a few other girls that were taking the tour had stopped at a sports bar visited by a number of students, just a few blocks away from Crawford Hall, the same place that Professor Cox's office was at.
It was there that Abby's group were being bothered by several males belonging to the local fraternity. One male, Curtis Tom, had grabbed the arm of Melinda Williams. Abby had retaliated, a physical shove with maybe, it seemed, an extra boost. The drunken Curtis had tried hitting Abby but she had managed to dodge, landing a punch of her own before the tavern's security got involved.
Comparing both files, charges could've been pressed but both Abby and Melinda had let it go. He didn't know why Abby's friend Melinda didn't press charges but he knew why Abby had let it go. She was suppose to be in hiding. The last thing she needed was too much attention on herself. Reading through the two reports and statements from witnesses again, Sam knew that the two men were familiar to him. It aggravated him that he couldn't remember from where.
"That's it!"
With a few typed commands, all the files disappeared as Dean came barreling into the library, a filled duffle bag in hand.
"Dean?"
"I'm going after them." Placing the duffel on the table, Dean stepped away to snag a couple hex bags and further down to the glass jars. Taking a peek in his brother's bag, Sam found the standard demon hunting items: salt and iron bullets, markers for drawling Devil's traps. He'd also packed a few extras like Ruby's knife and a couple of angel blades. Picking up a loose magazine Sam plucked one of the bullets for inspection, finding a Devil's trap craved into the metal.
He returned the items once Dean came back, three bombs in his hands. "You comin'?"
"Dean, they have almost a three hour head start on us. They could be anywhere."
Dean pointed a finger at him. "But we know where they're going."
Sam raised an eyebrow at Dean's look. Then it clicked. "Mexico? You think they're going to Juarez?"
"I've chased after you on less. She's a parent, there's no way she's not gonna go check it out."
"Dean, I searched all over the internet and immigration, couldn't find anything on her childhood before she was five. I have no idea where her house is."
Dean pulled a map from the depths of his bag, the words MEXICO across the top. "Then we do it the old fashioned way."
Definitely possible but there was one problem. "Dean, I hope you haven't forgotten we're wanted fugitives."
Dean smiled. "Not exactly. We're dead wanted fugitives."
"Like that's any better. Dean, we have no way of getting across the border."
"Sure we do. We'll take Angel Air." Dean pointed a thumb over his shoulder at the other angels, some who looked up curiously.
Sam hmm'ed under his breath, thinking of the pros and cons. He knew it wasn't smart but he also really wanted to being doing something to help. He'd have to compromise. "Let's at least wait for Ruth to show up. Maybe she can track Abby down as her vessel."
Dean furrowed his eyebrow and Sam knew he didn't want to wait but Ruth could really help them out. "Fine, it's not like they can get on an airplane. It'll take them roughly a day and a half to reach the border."
"We'll catch up Dean. You're right though, trying to get on an airplane would be suicide."
~~~SPN~~~
"This is suicide."
Abby didn't look up from her spot on the motorcycle. "You said that already. Three times."
Castiel kept his eyes on the looming building ahead of them, waiting for Abby to finish her prepping. As an angel he wouldn't be nervous but as a human he was filled with anxiety.
"Abby, this is suicide."
"Okay, Castiel!" Abby finally looked up from the backpack she held, her eyes narrowed. "I need to concentrate right now for this to work. So keep the negativity to yourself for a few minutes, alright?"
Castiel nodded, looking away and back down the road to the large building. He could see three larger planes and several smaller models docked and one that was swiftly rolling down the runway.
When Abby and himself had finally gotten onto one of the highways Castiel was anticipating riding south. That was why he had been surprised when Abby turned the bike northward, crossing over into Nebraska. Getting closer to Lincoln Abby had asked about Castiel's belongings.
Finding out about the demon bombs in his jacket, she'd stopped at a few stores, looking for a bag to put them in. It took four different places but she managed to find a small bag that would hold the glass jars in a way that didn't cause them to rattle. She also managed to find a small backpack of her own for the two angel blades, her two guns with extra magazines, and the shoulder holster.
Showing Abby the FBI credentials Dean had made for him got her smiling for some reason. It wasn't until she parked a couple of blocks away from what Abby had said was Lincoln's FBI field office that he was scared. She left him at the motorcycle, walking in the large building's direction, and disappeared for almost an hour.
She came back with a near skip in her step, handing him his ID back, which looked a bit different than last time but he didn't say anything and they'd roared down the highway.
Now they sat a good three miles from Lincoln's airport, Abby doing something to Castiel's bag, and the ex-angel nervous for what they were going to attempt.
"Alright all done!"
He turned at Abby's exclamation, seeing her standing, looking down into his bag, smiling and nodding in satisfaction.
"Abby are you sure this will work?"
The woman in question nodded, than bobbed her head side to side. "I've done it before but I don't have much practice with this ability. Just let me do the talking and try to act human."
Abby gave him his bag back, straddling the bike, leaving room for him on the back seat. He settled in behind her.
"But I am human."
She snorted. "You've been a human for what? Half a year? This requires a bit more finesse. Dean and Sam ever take you on their cases?"
Castiel thought back to the hunts that he had accompanied the Winchester brothers on over the years, the angel killings at the bar in Wyoming being the most recent. They had played FBI agents that time. Castiel thought he had been fairly convincing.
"Yes."
"Good this is a bit like that. Just…let me set up the scene and you can add your two cents."
The motorcycle roared to life, preventing Castiel from answering as they shot forward. He hoped this worked.
~~~SPN~~~
For turning newly human, Castiel hadn't done so bad. Abby glanced at the taller man next to her, blue eyes sharp as he glanced about the small airport.
The line moved forward, taking the two of them with it, that much closer to the ticket counter. Considering it was Nebraska, the airport wasn't as big as some of the international ones, just serving the region, only a few airlines going more than a state away.
Looking up at the screen above the counter, Abby gave a cursory glance of the short list, narrowing on the flight leaving in forty minutes, Denver its destination. From there she was hoping to catch another plane heading to El Paso. All in all, Abby was looking at four, maybe five hours flight time. It was upsetting to be inactive, having to wait in the queue while Jack was in the same general vicinity as Abaddon. Although the plane ride was better than the ten-plus hour drive to El Paso.
Looking at the former angel next to her Abby had to trust he would alert her if there was movement from the line as she closed her eyes.
~Jackie? You okay?~
It was quiet, Jack's telepathic presence absent from her head. She could feel the dread starting.
~Jack? Jack!?~
~…Momma..?~
Abby's knees nearly gave. She was seconds away from flying into a panic. ~Jack, are you okay? You didn't answer me?~
~I was napping.~
Abby let go of the breath she was holding. ~Are you okay though? They haven't hurt you have they?~
~No, just watched me. They gave me a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with some milk.~
The image almost made Abby smile. ~They just left you alone?~
Abby could almost feel Jack nod. ~Yeah.~
There was a slight tug at her sleeve and Abby opened her eyes to see Castiel gently bring her forward in line. There was only one more person left.
~Jackie, I gotta go but I'm on my way, okay?~
~'Kay Mama…~
The link severed, the feeling of Jack's presence in her head disappearing, almost causing tears to flow. But not right now, she needed to focus as the person in front of them finished and left, letting them step up to the counter.
"Welcome to Lincoln Airport. How can I help you?"
Smiling at the blonde woman in front of her, Abby gave a perky tone. "Hi, we're looking to see if you have any seats available on the Denver flight leaving in forty minutes?"
With a few clinks, the woman looked up. "I have a few. Two I assume?"
Grabbing for the wallet nestled in her back pocket Abby nodded. "Yes please."
"I just need payment and ID."
"Here you are." Abby gave up the black visa and her driver's license. The money was legit, though Abby had no idea where Ruth had got the card in her name. The angel had just told her it was her's to use however she wanted.
Castiel shuffled at Abby's side, a quick glance at her before he reached into the inner pocket of his jacket. This would be the tricky part. Hopefully, with Abby's last minute coaching, it would work.
"I apologize, but my license was misplaced. However I do have this." With that Castiel gave the woman, Anna according to her name tag, his now authentic FBI badge.
Anna's eyes widened when she studied the ID, looking up at them sharply. Abby gave a sheepish smile, pulling her own badge out.
The woman looked flustered for a bit, no doubt in awe of being in the presence of two real FBI agents. Well, real at least for the next twelve hours. Their side trip had been successful, Abby managing to issue themselves actual badges and real files within the FBI database. After the twelve hours were up the virus Abby had planted would devour their files, never to been seen or recovered again.
Anna seemed to find her voice as she quickly began typing the info in, "Of course Agents! I'll have those printed in just a sec."
After a few seconds a little mechanical whirl was heard and Anna pulled two tickets and two boarding passes from somewhere under her desk.
"Here we are Agents. Two tickets to Denver. Enjoy your flight."
Castiel managed to keep his face from showing relief while Abby grabbed the papers from Anna, smiling and thanking her as they walked away.
Once they were far enough away Abby gave Castiel a soft elbow shove. "See, easy-peazy."
"That could have gone wrong, Abby."
"Yeah well it didn't. Besides I need you to relax. That wasn't the hard part." Abby waved away his comment, handing the dark-haired man his ticket and pass, keeping hers in hand. She was right though. Buying the tickets was easy, it was when they had to go through security that would be difficult.
Abby continued on, sure that Castiel would chase after her as she followed the arrows to the TSA check point. Abby had had to specifically choose their bags, looking for ones small enough to be considered carryon. It was when they would have to go through the scanner that worried her. Like she had told him, she didn't have a lot of practice with this specific ability of hers but the times she had used it, it worked perfectly. She was just worried about using it for something as important as smuggling. She didn't need to be tackled by the police today. But she wasn't gonna tell Castiel any of this. Last thing she needed was for him to freak out in the middle of the airport. They'd get caught for sure. But as Jesse liked to say, forewarned was forearmed.
"Castiel?"
Blue eyes darted over to her. "Yes?"
By now they had reached the security point, getting into line behind several others. Abby could see a handful of people taking off their shoes and belts, emptying out their pockets to put in the bins along with the carryon bags they were bringing onto the plane.
"Are you wearing a belt?"
"What?"
~~~SPN~~~
He had seen them slink over to a corner of the library, right before Abby would enter the large room for a second time, and start whispering feverishly to each other. He had caught Dean saying something about Abby's identity and he'd immediately muttered the Enochian words that Ruth had taught him, activating the sphere of angel proofing that encased the two brothers, keeping their conversation their own. Ruth was suspicious that Dean knew what Abby was and while she was okay with Sam knowing, she didn't want the rest of the garrison to know. At least not yet.
Looking around the room, Theo was inclined to agree. When Theo had joined with his sister, she had twenty angels under her command. Seven of them, including Jesse, had been in one single garrison before coming to Earth, managing to escape the fall by several months. Now with the death of Titus and Julia, there were only five. As much as Ruth trusted Jesse and Arelie, she wasn't willing to risk Abby and Jack.
Dark eyes looked over at the pixie-like dancer who was perched over the print outs Dean had shared earlier. Tabitha was an angel Theo didn't know much of but he did know that she was the angel that refused to destroy New Orleans' levees and sandbags during Hurricane Katrina. Her orders were to flood the entire city but she refused. Tabitha managed to hold off Naomi's angels from capturing her but also prevented them from reaching the levees for nearly three days but her strength grew weak and they managed to break through her defenses. Tabitha was recovered, sent to Naomi for "debriefing and re-education," but she had managed to defend New Orleans until after the storm passed. By the time the other angels had done Tabitha's job, several thousand humans had evacuated. It was because of this fondness for humanity that Theo was sure she'd be one of the few angels that would be told of Abby's identity before the others.
"Theo?"
Turning to the voice Theo found Muriel at his side, her eyes concerned. This was also a development he hadn't seen coming. The soft-spoken angel had decided to stay with Ruth for protection against Malachi until the threat could be dealt with. However he was still free, still searching for her and Castiel, so she had been forced to stay longer than she wanted to. Theo was sure her reluctance was because of him.
Castiel had forgiven Theo but Muriel still held her fear of Theo, a feeling he disliked. He had been lost and afraid when he'd fallen so he'd latched onto whatever familiarity he'd found. But by doing so he had singled himself out among his brothers and sisters, being avoided by those he called family. For someone like him, who experienced true bonds with Ruth and Gabriel, it was quite a blow.
The battle just the previous day had changed everything between him and the blonde angel. Theo, like all the other angels, had been trained in battle but he had received extra training from both Gabriel, an archangel, and Ruth, Michael's most advanced warrior. Thus his skill was much more advanced than the others of Ruth's garrison. He had developed a rhythm when fighting, taking out nearby demons with Enochian exorcisms while slashing and jabbing with his angel blade at the Daevas and hellhounds that were within reach.
It was during the second battle that things changed. He'd been doing fairly well but he'd spied a trio of demons and two hellhounds converging on Muriel. He'd reacted instantly, killing the two demons that were about to ambush her from behind. However, his assistance was enough of a distraction that Muriel took her eyes off the first demon and said demon managed to shove the large bowie knife into Theo's side. Muriel retaliated by piercing the demon with her angel blade, killing the creature.
With Theo injured and two hellhounds circling them, he knew that he wouldn't be able to cover Muriel if she choose to engage the demonic animals. So he used some of his last reservoirs to teleport Muriel next to Ezal who, on Ruth's command, was in the process of retreating with an unconscious Abby over his shoulder.
With one look from the larger angel, Ezal grabbed Muriel's arm, disappearing in a flutter of wings, leaving Theo to take on the two hellhounds as they barreled toward him. He wasn't sure if it was a good thing but before the hellhounds could reach him, a demon behind him used a banishing sigil, the large angel well within range of its effect.
Theo had never had the displeasure of being subjected to a banishing so it was quite the experience for him. He remembered the burning sensation from the blinding light and suddenly he was enveloped in salty water, blue open water all around him.
Being dumped into the ocean was a strange event, considering Theo didn't necessarily need oxygen, but none the less Theo used the time to try and heal but his depleted grace made it difficult.
He did remember the arrival of the large female Tiger Shark, gliding through the water, slowly making her way toward Theo.
As an angel, Theo knew all of his Father's creations and feeling the child-like, innocent curiosity of this female made him smile. She knew what he was and she was surprised to see him in the realm her creator designed for her and others of her type. She was simply mystified by him.
He'd managed to ask for a favor and so, in a trance-like state while he attempted to heal, Theo grabbed a hold of her dorsal fin and was whisked away to the closest human populated land that the shark knew of.
It was because he was attempting to heal himself by entering near comatose that Theo didn't notice the hours pass or how the female shark deposited him in the shallows of a beach. He was, however, able to vaguely tell that he was somewhere along Eastern Australia. That was right before a hand grabbed his shoulder, burning hot for a split second and then suddenly Theo was completely dry and leaning against the wall of the general store in the middle of Lebanon, Kansas.
Theo still wasn't sure how he had managed to be transported to exactly where he had needed to be, his only idea that one of the his new garrison-mates had found and sent him. But so far, the angels within the bunker denied involvement.
"Theo?"
Again Theo managed to space out, thinking back on his banishment and mysterious arrival to Kansas, forgetting he was here in the bunker with Muriel at his side. He looked over at the petite woman who had once been frightened of him but now hardly strayed more than ten feet away.
"I'm fine." He gave her a smile and she nodded, looking back down at the book of demons that she had retrieved from the book case.
It had been almost four hours since the disappearance of Abby and Castiel, with the group waiting on Ruth to make her way back to the hideout. His sister was one of the few possible leads they had on finding Abby. Once Ezal recovered enough, he was also a possible option.
Dark brown eyes turned to their original focus, before Theo had trailed off. Sam Winchester was good at faking but he could see right through the act. It was the little things that gave him away. The slight flinches, the gazing out into space, the subtle rubbing of his forehead or temple that indicated a headache. None of which was showing before the night the young hunter was sent into the future. If Dean hadn't been so worried about Abby and Castiel, he was sure the older brother would have noticed.
Theo was fairly sure of what was happening to the young man. Sam had been sent to a timeline that held a demonized Dean. Theo was also sure Sam had been told of what had occurred to make his brother a demon. His reaction that morning was a large give away.
He was remembering what he had experienced and was in pain from the event. Judging from the subtle bags under his eyes the younger Winchester was also having nightmares. Though Theo hadn't been an initial fan of Ruth's plot to get the brothers to make up, he still preferred it to the alternative.
Seeing Sam shake his head to rid himself of the dark thoughts that were surely plaguing him, he began studying the thick book in front of him. Theo thought things with Sam were settling when the hunter's eyebrows furrowed, like he was trying to figure a puzzle out. And from the suddenly enlightened look on Sam's face, the tall man had figured it out. The long-haired man was up and trying his hardest not to run at the shelves behind him. Apparently he found the book he need as he whipped it off the shelf and opened it, not even bothering to make it back to his table.
Tilting his head Theo read the title along the hardback's spine his own eyes widening before narrowing as he turned to the other angels near by. If what Sam held in his hands was a possibility then secrets were about to be revealed. He just hoped no one had to die because of those secrets.
~~~SPN~~~
Dean wasn't stupid. He had noticed the bags under Sam's eyes, the headaches and flinches. It had all started a few days after the failed attempt to get the First Blade and Sam's forgiveness. Dean was still waiting for the other shoe to drop on the latter topic.
All Sam had said was he took a trip in a DeLorean and had a similar experience that Dean had when Zachariah sent him to the future. He was just worried about what Sam had seen and experienced. Considering his brother didn't let him out of his sight for almost two weeks gave Dean a rough idea.
He didn't like for anyone to be messing with his family but Sam's trip to the future helped them make up after their fight. Dean was trying not to overcrowd Sam, giving options and letting him decide on what he wanted to do, while Sam would allow Dean to be concerned for him, knowing that he did it not because he saw him as weak but because he was family. And right now two other members of his family were missing and Dean was freaking out about it. Both Cas and Abby were walking billboards for trouble.
Cas was wanted by the angels for being an unknowing accomplice to the fall from heaven. Also because he was close to the Winchesters, Cas would be the perfect bait and leverage for any demon out there.
Abby, Dean was sure, could take care of herself unlike human Cas, but she was still at risk. According to Ezal, any angel worth their wings would kill Abby on sight for being a Cambion. He just wasn't sure that being taken alive by demons for their own purposes was any better. But he was confidant that she would be able to protect herself against other supernatural creatures. He just hoped they were traveling together so she could keep an eye on Cas.
A sharp intake from Sam had him looking over at his brother who sat a couple tables away. Dean knew the look on his brother's face meant he had figured something big out.
Sam was up, and with great restraint, turned around and calmly walked over to the shelves behind him. Dean could tell he wanted to run but his long legs ate up the space between chair and wall easily enough.
Tilting his head Dean attempted to read the spine of the book in his brother's hands but said brother snapped it shut and tucked it under his arm, marching toward Dean.
"Sam?"
"We got a problem Dean. A really big problem." Sam laid the book down, flipping to what looked like a random page, pointing out the letters on the top.
Dean read the words quickly, murmuring under his breath. He glanced up at Sam. "A binding spell?"
"Sorta. It binds a being to the caster, kinda like Death. But it gave me an idea. This is just one kind of binding spell that we know of. There are bound to be others we've never heard of before. We don't know if the demons have their own spell. But if they do? Abaddon has Jack, she could bind him to her and kill anybody that opposes her."
"But Abby's stronger, she might be able to kill Abaddon which, according to this chapter, will destroy the tie."
Sam sat down across from Dean, face in earnest. "Yeah, for this one. But regardless of the type of spell, think about it Dean. Why bind a watered down Cambion when you can have an actual Cambion?"
Dean's face cleared up. "Jack's been bait this whole time. As soon as Abby finds them, he'll become leverage."
Sam was nodding his agreement. "Like you said, she's a parent. There's nothing she wouldn't do, even at the risk of her own life."
"We gotta find her fast."
Sam titled his head at the angels on the other side of the room. "What about them?"
Dean paused, not sure how to go from here. Everyone needed to be on the same page so they could find Abby or even find Abaddon but he wasn't sure how their reaction to Abby and Jack would be. He wanted to save them, but some of the angels might want to kill Abby and Jack to get rid of the problem in general. Sad truth was, if Abaddon was successful, Abby or Jack would have to be killed. He couldn't let that happen.
Footsteps drew near causing Dean and Sam to get up out of their chairs as Theo wondered over. Theo, larger than even Sam, Theo. The two brothers glanced at each other. Dean raised an eyebrow before smiling at the angel in front of them.
"Hey Theo, me and Sam are gonna hit the store in town, see if we can buy us more salt. You want anything while we're out?"
Theo looked unimpressed at Dean's ploy, studying the two brothers for a moment. He glanced over his shoulder at the other angels, where Dean could see Muriel watching worriedly but the others remained oblivious. The larger man turned to them.
"What did you find out?"
Dean glanced over at Sam, whose face remained blank. Play it dumb then. "What are you talking about?"
Theo raised an eyebrow. "I'm an angel Dean. I have heightened senses, such as eyesight." He looked over at Sam. "And hearing."
The two brothers looked at each other, Dean's hand slowly making its way toward the inside of his jacket for the angel blade he had stashed. Movement from Sam let him know that his brother was thinking the same thing.
"Don't worry, there's an angel-proof dome roughly ten feet high and stretches about ten feet in radius around you." Theo glanced back over his shoulder, seeing Muriel's concerned face. He waved at her and she nodded back, looking down at the book in her arms again.
Dean and Sam took the distraction as a chance to take another step back from Theo. Dean had to admit he was a little confused by what Theo said but if it was true than Abby's secret was safe. Was it?
"Listen, this angel-proof dome thing? How does it work?"
Theo looked at Sam. "There are different ones. This particular one keeps supernatural creatures, such as angels, from hearing you. It can be activated by speaking an Enochian enchantment. Ezal and myself are the only angels present able to activate it. If you're talking about four hours ago when Dean spilled the beans, then you don't have to worry, I activated it right before anything was actually revealed."
Dean felt a weight come off his shoulders. But something was bugging him. Looking Theo over, Dean could see that the angel was calm. Too calm, especially how they had been talking about Abby's heritage. "How long have you know?"
"Dean…" Sam tried to warn.
"Look at him Sam. He knows, don't you? About what Abby is."
Theo nodded. "I've known for awhile."
"How long?"
Theo tossed a look at Sam. "Since I joined Ruth. Ezal and myself are the only other ones who know."
Dean quirked an eyebrow. "What about Jesse? I thought him and Ezal were Ruth's right hand guys?" If Dean was honest he was surprised that Theo knew and not Jesse.
"Jesse is a great solider, loyal to Ruth and the garrison but Ruth's afraid that Jesse still might be a bit obedient to Heaven. Obedient enough to try and hurt Abby. Ruth doesn't want to take that chance."
"What about you and Ezal?"
Theo sent a glance behind him at Mamoru, who was speaking with Tab, before answering Sam's question. "Considering Ezal's history and that he's been with Ruth for several centuries, it was a no brainer. As for me, well truth is, Ruth didn't want me to know."
Dean and Sam looked at each other. What the hell? Squinting his eyes at the large angel, Dean asked, "So how did you find out?"
"Abby was the one who told me."
The two Winchester glanced at each other again. What the hell?
"So, now that we all know, what did you find out Sam?"
Dean watched as Sam was still a bit unsure about the whole thing but he went into his explanation about the possible binding spell Abaddon could use on Jack and Abby, going so far as to show the book to Theo.
The scarred angel read over the spell quickly, his eyebrow furrowing deeper the more he read. With a quick movement the book snapped shut, Theo placing it back on the table. He looked as concerned as they had been a few minutes ago.
"This is very bad. But the good news is that something like this takes time to pull off. Time we can use to track both Abby and Abaddon down."
Feeling like they might have something to go on Dean started fidgeting. Things were taking shape.
Sam, ever the prepared one of the Winchester duo, asked, "Good news?"
"Yeah. Considering who Abaddon wants to bind, she needs a very, very, specific spell. Very powerful with very specific items and conditions. All of which need time to prepare."
Dean didn't want to say it but it needed to be said. He knew there was a catch. "And the bad news?"
Theo shuffled his feet, seeming unwilling to continue. But he did. "Abaddon will find herself the most powerful spell for this to work but the more powerful the spell…" He trailed off, his hands fisting and teeth gritting. He looked up at the brothers, making direct eye contact. "The more permanent the effects."
Dean threw his hands in the air in frustration at the declaration. He knew what Theo was saying. "Meaning if we can't stop this, there's only one way to save Abby and Jack." He grew quiet, gripping the back of a chair till his knuckles were white. "We'll have to kill them."
"Wait, wait," stammered Sam. Dean knew his brother wasn't liking the way this conversation was heading. But with one look at Theo Dean knew the larger angel also agreed with him, as unfortunate as it was.
"Wait, listen, what if we found the spell? I mean, there has to be a way to stop it, right? I mean, this is a Knight of Hell binding a Cambion. Someone has to know. It might be here in the library."
Dean didn't notice the way Theo's eyes narrowed at Sam's words, his head tilting but he straighten when hearing the rest of Sam's words.
"I know someone who might be able to help us."
Dean's head snapped over to Theo, seeing Sam mirror him. "You do?"
Theo nodded. "You know them too."
Dean straightened up. They did? His eyes widened and he looked at his brother, their eyes making contact. Of course, who else would know about obscure demonic spells but the King of Hell.
"Let's go-"
"No."
Hearing his brother's protest, Dean looked over at his little brother, seeing his face firm and determined. "What do you mean no?"
"I mean, I'll go, you stay."
What the hell? "Sam-"
"No Dean." Dean almost flinched back from the stony look in Sam's eyes. "You're gonna stay here. I'm gonna go with Theo."
Dean opened his mouth to protest but stopped. Ever since Gadreel Dean had been trying to not to overcrowd Sam, let him make his own decisions. This was one of those times.
"Fine."
Sam's eyes blinked a couple times, apparently in shock. "Really? Just like that?"
Although he didn't want to, Dean nodded. "Yeah. I'll stay here and research while you and Theo go."
His little brother paused, no doubt waiting for the catch but Dean remained silent. "Okay, I'll call and let you know what we find out."
Dean nodded but he couldn't help feel like something was going to happen. Something big.
~~~SPN~~~
"Where are we?" asked Sam, looking around the dense forest he found himself in. He could hear the roar of waves on his left but other than that the trees were too thick for him to be able to see through. As soon as the bunker door closed behind them, Theo had reached out and placed two fingers on Sam's forehead. Which brought him to this location.
Theo started off in what seemed like a random direction but the confidant look on his face said otherwise. "Roughly ten miles north of Newport, Oregon."
Sam hurried after him, their long strides matching. "Oregon? Why would Crowley be in Oregon? Wouldn't it be easier to just use a summoning spell?"
Theo didn't stop walking but he looked back over his shoulder at Sam. "We're not here to meet Crowley."
"Wait, then who are we meeting?" Sam continued to follow, the trees on his left thinning out, enough that Sam could see the faint outline of the beach and waves that rushed forward along the sand. They were a bit high up so Sam figured they were a top a cliff of some sort.
"A demon expert."
"Okay, that doesn't tell me much. You said me and Dean knew him?"
Theo gave a shrug. "Yes, it's been a while but you know her. I actually shouldn't even be here. Both Ruth and Abby told me not to come. Crowley would love to get his hands on her."
"Wait, her? Who is she?"
Theo looked over his shoulder. "You'll see."
Sam knew by his tone of voice that that was the end of conversation. But for the life of him Sam couldn't figure out who Dean and him knew that was a "demon expert." It could be an old contact of theirs but he only knew other hunters, not anyone who specialized in one kind of supernatural creature. Expect for Gordon Walker but that was a long time ago.
"So how are you flying around?"
Theo turned back at the question, surprise on his face. "What?"
It was something that had been bothering Sam. He knew that most of Ruth's garrison had already been on Earth when the fall happened so they hadn't got their wings burned and destroyed thus they were able to fly around. Theo and Muriel, however, had been dropped along with the others, thus they wouldn't be able to use their wings but twice Sam had witnessed Theo doing just that.
Once when Sam had come back from the future and Theo had flown him to Dean's location and then just right now, teleporting them to Oregon's coast.
"You fell so you shouldn't be able to fly but you've done it a few times already. I'm just curious how."
"Mostly because of Ezal."
"Ezal?"
"Yeah. Ezal's a Rit Zien, so his healing ability is far more potent than any other class of angel, even Ruth. He's been helping Muriel and me to get our wings back. But the fight from yesterday really did a number on my grace so I'm trying to take it easy. That's why we're in the middle of the forest and not on her porch."
Sam wanted to bring up this so called demon expert that he and Theo knew but he squashed the desire down. He'd meet her in a few minutes so he wasn't overly worried. He did have his gun and angel blade so he felt pretty prepared.
Finally Sam could see the trees thinning out in front of them and quickly they were out of the dense forest, on a cliff over looking the ocean. Edging toward the slope, Sam discovered the lack of sharp incline. It was more like a high hill. Anyone could maneuver their way down to the beach that lay below.
"Come on Sam."
Theo's voice had him turning around, seeing the large angel walk off to the right, staying on the rim of the cliff, following a faint trail. They had only walked for a couple minutes when the trail widened and Sam could make out the small wooden cottage nestled against the trees.
Wooden deck wrapped around the left side of the small house, a large porthole window tilted open to allow in the cool wind, Sam had to admit it was actually a really nice house. Definitely not a hunter's cabin. Who the hell were they suppose to be meeting at a place like this?
Theo forgo the white door under the porch and followed the deck around the corner of the house, Sam right behind him. They hadn't gotten more than three feet along the house when barking rang out. Ahead of them Sam watched as a small white dog rounded the opened glass patio door, galloping and barking at them.
With curiosity Sam watched as the dog halted, teeth bared and growling under his breath as its brown eyes drilled into Theo before flicking his gaze to Sam. Apparently seeing no threat in the two large strangers the dog stopped growling, turning and walking back the way he had come. Automatically Sam's brain supplied the breed, a Jack Russell, for the dog as he watched it go. Short docked tail, all white except for two black patches that stretched on both sides of his head, from his eyes to cover his entire ears, the dog continued until he disappeared into the small house again.
It wasn't two seconds after that that a woman whipped around the patio door, scowl on her face and angel blade at the ready. She didn't seem to notice Sam, only seeing Theo standing before her and that caused her to lower the blade.
"Theo?" Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "What are you doing here…" She trailed off, her eyes widening once Sam ducked out from behind Theo.
Sam knew his eyes were just as wide as he studied the woman before him. There was no way it was her but what else could he think? The dark hair. Dark eyes. Even the way she spoke. He knew it was her because of the recognition she showed him but there was just one problem. She was dead. Right?
"Sam?" Her voice was just as baffled as he felt. She took a step forward but he automatically took a step back. He hadn't thought of her for awhile but now here she was. Theo was right. Sam and Dean did know her. He was also right about her being a demon expert. Considering she was a demon.
But she couldn't be. No, this couldn't be her. Sam had been right there when the blade was shoved into her stomach, lighting up her body with flashes of light, that same body collapsing into a lifeless heap.
"Sam?"
The rough timbre of her voice caused the taller Winchester to blink a few times, trying to clear his head. Refocusing, he noticed Theo and her both watching him. Waiting to see his reaction no doubt. Especially with this kind of information.
"How…?" He was at a lost for words. He turned his sharp gaze to Theo. "How is she alive Theo?"
He turned to the small brunette, giving her the same look. "How the hell are you alive Meg?"
Yeah, I brought Meg back. I liked her. I was pretty bummed she was killed off but this is Supernatural we're talking about so who knows. She might really come back. Also I dropped some HUGE hints in regard to Abby. Did anyone notice? Until next time. Peace out! -Mez
