Chapter 6: Times Like These
"Wow! Welcome back!"
Ryou's voice could be heard and the drama club room as Nagisa walked through the door. "Thank you." Nagisa said as she smiled. "I'm so happy to see you again." Nagisa stated. "I'm so happy you're finally feeling better." Kotomi added. Nagisa smiled at her friends, "I'm sorry that I made you all worry." She said.
Nagisa looked behind Ryou to see Tomoya sitting with Sunohara and Kazuyoshi. "Okazaki!" She called out as she walked over to him. Tomoya looked at her and awaited her response, "Sorry I made you worry as well. Father told me that you called quite a few times to make sure I was okay." She said.
"It's alright! I'm just glad that you're okay." He stated as he stood up and scratched his head which made her smile. Youhei and Kazuyoshi looked at each other and smiled knowing that Nagisa was special to Tomoya. Nagisa looked at around the room as if she was trying to spot something, "What is it?" he asked. Nagisa stopped searching and looked at him, "Where's Kyou and-" she started until a voice cut her off.
"Let's go Kazuki! You know what you have to do."
Everyone turned to see Kyou walking into the room while holding Ryouta's sleeve and dragging him inside. She walked over to Tomoya and stopped when she was near him. "Tomoya, Ryouta has something to say to you… Go on and tell him!" She ordered Ryouta.
Ryouta groaned and then looked at Tomoya who raised an eyebrow. Ryouta sniffled a little and then put his hand out offering a handshake, "I'm sorry Tomoya." he said in a fake cry voice. Tomoya smiled and shook his hand knowing that he couldn't be mad with his closest friend, "It's alright don't worry about it. We both know it was a big misunderstanding. Besides, it seems like you were able to achieve what you've been trying to for a long time now." He said. Ryouta smiled and nodded knowing Tomoya was right.
"What happened?" Nagisa asked. Ryouta smiled at her, "Nothing! Just a misunderstanding." He informed. Tomoya nodded while Sunohara looked at him and smirked, "Looks like you're off the market now huh?" He asked. Ryouta gave him a smirk back before chuckling deciding not to answer.
The next day Ryouta and Tomoya were seen walking down the street heading to school. "Honestly man, when schools over for me I don't even know if I'll have the willpower to work. Sometimes I wonder if I'll even graduate, but I don't think that's going to happen." Tomoya said.
Ryouta smiled, "Well attending class without thinking about anything else is still convenient. Don't worry about it man you'll be fine." He stated. Tomoya sighed which made Ryouta look at him, "Listen, I know you're having family issues with your father but you can't let that bring you down. Especially when you're trying to help Nagisa with the drama club, you can't be a drop out and help her." He stated. This made Tomoya look at him with an annoyed look which Ryouta just smiled in return.
As they continued to walk they heard a sound coming from behind them. Ryouta knew that sound all too well and with a swift movement he grabbed Tomoya's shirt and pulled him to the right. As he did that a screeching sound could be heard and a familiar long haired girl passed by. "Tch!" Is all could be heard from the girl as if she was disappointed she missed.
"Damn it Kyou!" Ryouta exclaimed. Before Ryouta could say anything else all that could be heard was the sound of Kyou crashing into the person that was walking in front of them. The person flew into mid air and fell to the ground, "Kyou, are you serious!?" Ryouta asked.
Kyou turned to look at the person she hit, "Sorry!" She stated before driving off and continuing on her way which made Ryouta shake his head in shame. "Your girlfriend is a piece of work." Tomoya informed. Ryouta just sighed and walked over to the victim, "Hey are you okay?" He asked.
The boy did not say anything which made Ryouta a little nervous. "It'd be nice for someone familiar with the culprit to tell that person to turn themselves in" Tomoya teased. Ryouta glared, "And it'd be nice if we just shut up and not be a witness right now. There's no way I'm going to go tell Kyou to turn herself in, she'd kill me." Ryouta said which made Tomoya laugh.
"You know this could be good blackmail material. You could have Kyou do whatever you want with this evidence. She could clean your room, wash your clothes, do your homework. You'd be golden." Tomoya said. "I'm not going to blackmail her either." Ryouta replied.
Ryouta then tried to shake the victim, "Hey are you alright? Say something!" Ryouta called out. Ryouta shook the victims thin shoulder, 'Is it a girl' He thought to himself. The person started to twitch which made Tomoya and Ryouta sigh in relief, "Hey are you okay?" Tomoya asked.
The person soon sat up quickly and collided with Ryouta's head. "AHH!" Ryouta and the person exclaimed in pain in union. "What the? What was that just now?" The person asked. The victim had light skin like Youhei. He also had light Brownish blonde hair. He wore a zipped up light blue jacket with dark blue pants and dark blue shoes. "All of a sudden I felt something like a thump followed by a roll, roll immediately a slide or something…" He complained.
"Um, you were hit by a bike." Tomoya said. The boy looked to the ground, "A bike hit me?" he asked. Tomoya looked at the boy up and down and could not figure if the person was a girl or a boy. The boy then hit his hand as if he had remembered something "Again!" He stated which confused Ryouta as he raised an eyebrow curiously. "Something like this happens every once in a while, If it were a car it would be a problem. But since it's a bike again it's better." the victim explained. "Better huh?" Ryouta asked. 'You flew into the sky! How is that better?' Tomoya thought to himself.
"Is your body okay?" Ryouta asked. The boy looked at him and smiled, "Eh? I don't think I'm hurt anywhere in particular?" he said. Ryouta sighed in relief, "I see… Then I guess you're fine." Tomoya said.
"Umm, by the way do you know the time?" The boy asked. Tomoya nodded, "It's about Ten o'clock." He responded. "Oh no! Not good, I'm going to be late for my job interview." The boy said before running off. "Ah, Hey!" Ryouta called out but the boy was now long gone and wasn't about to stop.
Ryouta then looked to the ground to see an envelope that had Resume written on it. "Looks like he dropped this." Ryouta said. Tomoya scratched his head, "Maybe you should hold onto it and hopefully you'll see him again today to give it back." he suggested. "Maybe you're right." Ryouta replied.
"Hey, wait a minute. Didn't he say he was going to an interview? If that's the case wouldn't he need that Resume? I think we should try to find him now." Tomoya said. Ryouta gave him an annoyed look, "That's just your excuse to get out of school and you know it. But you're right about him needing this. Maybe if we look it over it could give us some help" He said as he opened up the envelope to read the resume. When he and Tomoya looked through the Resume what they say was…
Name: Blank
Age: Blank
Address: Blank
Telephone Number: Blank
Academics: Blank
Work Experience: Blank
"There's nothing written here! Was that person really about to bring this to their interview?" Tomoya asked. "Wait hold on there's something written on the right." Ryouta stated.
Strongest subject: Lunch
Weakest Subject: Homeroom
Objective: I want money
Hobbies: Telling people stuff they don't know
Current Health: I'll sue you for sexual Harassment
"Based on this writing it makes me think that this is a guy." Ryouta said. "Well I don't know what he means by this, but even so the writing is garbage. The letter looks like it's all wrinkled up. Like an earthworm was crawling through it. No matter the reason we can't take this to any address can we?" Tomoya asked. Ryouta sighed and folded the paper and put it in his bag "We can't do anything about it now so I'll hold onto it and hopefully see him again." Ryouta said.
The bell ending second period had just rang and Ryouta and Tomoya had just come in. "Ah. Tomoya, Ryouta, how's that kid?" Kyou asked as she walked out of the classroom she was in and towards them. Tomoya raised an eyebrow, "Why are you asking with such a smug face?" He asked.
"Eh? Because nothing happened. Right?" She asked. Tomoya shook his head, "No, nothing happened. But what if something did happen?" He asked in return. "What do you mean nothing happened. She didn't just tap the guy she ran him over!" Ryouta stated. Kyou smiled, "Come on Ry Ry it wasn't that serious." She replied. Tomoya chuckled at the nickname which made Ryouta more annoyed, "Don't give me the nickname stuff, the guy flew in the air and to top it off you left him there." Ryouta said.
Kyou continued to smile and waved her hand, "Its fine, its fine. The reaction when my bike hit was different after all." She stated. Ryouta raised an eyebrow as he looked at her, "Reaction?" He asked. "Yeah. What should I call it. The feeling when the flesh gets crushed with the bone? None of that was there was it? I'm sure that my skill reduced the impact." She said.
'A person who knows the feeling of flesh getting crushed with bone couldn't be human right?' Tomoya thought to himself. "Even so the problem is that the person ran away from the scene." Ryouta stated. "If Tomoya wasn't there I would have stopped." She said. "Or rather, It was Tomoya I was aiming for." She added in a whisper. "What was that?" Ryouta asked meaning he clearly heard it. 'She just said something scary! Could this be about the incident yesterday regarding botan?' Tomoya thought to himself.
"Listen, come with me I'll make it up to you by buying you a smoothie." She said as she grabbed Ryouta's arm, trying to change the conversation. "Kyou, wait!" He stated as he was being dragged away by his girlfriend. Tomoya smiled as he watched them, "Love birds." He said to himself. Tomoya then walked inside his classroom and sat down. 'Seems like Sunohara hasn't made it here yet.' He thought to himself.
Later that day Ryouta, Kazuyoshi and Tomoya were sitting in their classroom talking until Youhei had finally appeared, "Yo!" he called out. "You're in a good mood today." Kazuyoshi said. Youhei smiled, "That's because I was sleeping until now." he cheerful announced. "Well? What're we going to do during sixth period?" He asked. "Just look around." Tomoya replied.
The girls had left the classroom leaving only the boys inside. Making it a changing room. "P.E huh? Well before that, have you forgotten about yesterday you guys?" Youhei asked. The boys raised an eyebrow, "What are you talking about?" Kazuyoshi asked. "I'm talking about Yusuke Yoshino listening to me play the guitar." Youhei stated. "Oh yeah, that." Tomoya said. Ryouta sighed, "You don't have a guitar though." He added.
Youhei smiled at his statement "That's alright because I borrowed a guitar from someone." He stated. Tomoya leaned over to Ryouta who looked at him, "I bet it's someone he doesn't know too well. I just can't help but feel sorry for that guy." Tomoya whispered which made Ryouta chuckle.
Once the day was over the school bell had rung and Youhei had shot out of his seat. "Finally, the time has come. Today I will defeat Sakagami and show her that she should be cooking instead of fighting." He stated. Ryouta laughed, "You better not ever let Kyou hear you say that sexist comment." He said. Youhei smiled "You know it's the truth. I been training for this day, I hung my legs on an iron rod and did sit-ups!" He explained.
'Oh, he's so strong now' Tomoya thought with sarcasm. "Finally. I can feel my body moving. I'm all riled up now. Come close and you guys will be in danger!" He said with confidence. 'She's' Ryouta started in thought. 'Going' Tomoya added in thought. 'To' Kazuyoshi also added in thought. 'Destroy him' they all finished in union while sighing. Youhei gritted his teeth and smirked "I'm all set. Let's go!" he exclaimed.
Ten minutes later the boys were standing behind Youhei who was waiting for Tomoyo to arrive. Tomoyo had finally appeared with Keiji standing next to her. "What do you want now? Why did you call me here?" She asked.
Ryouta cleared his throat and looked at her, "Well you see Sakagami. My friend here has a problem." He informed. "Please take a minute to listen to his story. He wants to tell you his true feelings." Tomoya added which made Kazuyoshi laugh.
"Don't make it seem like I'm confessing." Youhei complained. Tomoyo didn't say a word, she was willing to hear him out. Keiji just shook his head having an idea what this was all about. "You really got me last week." Youhei stated. Tomoyo shook his head "I didn't do anything. You started all of it." She replied.
Youhei shook his head, "That doesn't matter… what matters are the results!" He exclaimed. Tomoyo looked at Ryouta and raised an eyebrow "Is he an idiot?" She asked. Keiji closed his eyes and smirked as he crossed his arms, "I believe so." He answered. Tomoyo, Kazuyoshi and Ryouta nodded, "Yeah he is." they replied in union. Youhei glared at them, "Stop agreeing with each other!" He exclaimed.
"Calm down Sunohara. Breathe deeply." Kazuyoshi advised. Youhei took a deep breath before glaring at Kazuyoshi, "Hey stop trying to confuse me. Damn it now my lines are all messed up." He said. "But regardless, I underestimated you before. But this time it's different." Youhei said. Keiji shook his head and continued to keep his position "You don't get it do you? She's in a completely different league than you and she can show you that in no time. So I'm advising you to stop while you're still standing." Keiji informed.
"Tch, I'm being underestimated." He muttered. Kazuyoshi looked at Ryouta, "Isn't he being unreasonable? I mean didn't she beat him before?" He asked in a whisper. Ryouta sighed and nodded at his question.
"Listen… It's as you say Tomoyo." Youhei said. Tomoyo looked at him, awaiting his words "What?" She asked. "I just haven't been in the mound for so long. Even the best pitcher will get hit!" He stated. Tomoya shook his head 'Sunohara…That's really a weird metaphor' he thought to himself. "Just like Enatsu in his glory days. He makes consecutive pitches in the Japan series… that's my fighting style!" He exclaimed.
Kazuyoshi shook his head 'Stop it… even I can't follow anymore' He thought to himself. "What does he want to tell me?" She asked Tomoya with a pained expression. "Sorry. But I don't know this guy." He replied. "Yes you do!" Youhei exclaimed. He then turned to look at Tomoyo, "Anyway don't look away when a person is talking to you." He ordered.
"You're just begging to get hurt. I'm telling you, leave while you can." Keiji said. Ryouta shook his head, "Don't bother, he's not going to listen." He replied. Tomoyo gave Youhei an uninterested look, "Your speech is too long. Just get to the point." She stated. Youhei closed his eyes "Tch…in short, it's just that I underestimated you before." He said. Tomoyo sighed. "Isn't that what you said a while ago?" She asked. "Huh? I'll say it whenever I want to say it." he replied.
"Sorry. I have seen many persistent people like you. But it'll end up the same. I won't talk trash about you, so stop it now. Or is it? You won't be satisfied until you're unable to go to school anymore?" she asked.
'I wonder if he can say anything in this situation' Ryouta thought. Youhei stayed silent for a moment before smirking, "I wonder which one of us will be the one… who can't come to
school." He said. Tomoya on replied with a, "That'll be you."
"Don't answer that!" Youhei ordered. Tomoyo then looked at the three boys behind Youhei, "Hey you. The outsiders. Don't defend him all right? This is legitimate self-defense." She said. The boys nodded, "Yeah! From now, until later on." Tomoya answered. Tomoyo smiled at them, "All right then." She paused and then looked at Youhei, "Now then. I'll be your opponent." She said.
Youhei laughed, "You sure have confidence." He said. Tomoyo prepared herself "How would you like to end this? Would you like to fly above ground for a while? That seems to be fun. I'm good with that so leave it to me." She said with a smile. Youhei started to get impatient as he looked at her, "As if you can do that. Stop nitpicking and let's do this." He ordered. She nodded "Fine." she said.
She then made a dash forward which made Youhei uneasy. He threw a jab which she quickly dodged. She stopped right in front of him and gathered her strength after her sprint. Once she did that she started kicking him simultaneously. She then kicked him towards Tomoya who stepped back and kicked him away. Youhei flew over to Ryouta who also gathered his strength and kicked him away. Kazuyoshi knew he was coming towards him so he quickly pulled out a huge dictionary and smacked Youhei away with it. Youhei then flew over to Keiji who focused his strength and punched Youhei hard enough to send him flying back to Tomoyo who continued to kick him.
"Fukohei, the dust chute!" She said. Keiji nodded and opened it as she kicked Youhei once more sending him flying into the dust chute and falling down it. Keiji shook his head, "I tried to warn him. That guy is pathetic." He stated. Tomoyo looked down with a sad expression, "This is bad. He might have died." She stated.
Kazuyoshi shook his head "No. If it's him he'll survive." he stated. She smiled, "I see. Then I'm relieved." She responded. Ryouta smiled. "We can't make any guarantees though." He added. Kazuyoshi, Tomoya, Tomoyo, and Ryouta laughed.
"Well he'll surely learn after this." Keiji said. Ryouta shook his head "I hate to disappoint you, but he's a guy who doesn't learn, even with this." He informed. Tomoyo sighed, "You're right about that. For the short time that I've known him he's never stopped. But I wish he would." Tomoyo sighed. "Say something to him. Isn't he your friend?" Keiji asked. "I wonder about that." Tomoya stated. "It would be easier if he listened to what we say." Ryouta added.
"So you're saying this will never stop?" Keiji asked. "Maybe if he gives up." Kazuyoshi replied. "Well if you have any conscience you would make him stop before he really can't come back to school on his own." Keiji stated. Ryouta sighed and waved his hand, "If I feel like it." He stated which made Tomoyo smile, "Well then I'll hope for that then." She stated as she and Keiji took their leave.
Later that day the boys were at Youhei's house waiting for him to show them the guitar. "Yes I'll be able to do that this week… Yes it's not a problem… Don't worry about it Mrs. Fujibayashi… I'm sorry I mean Karui… yup, sounds great… okay see you then." Ryouta said as he then hung up his cell phone.
"Fujibayashi's mother?" Kazuyoshi asked. Ryouta nodded, "Yeah, she wanted to know if I can help her and Kyou's dad move an entertainment center into their house." he explained. "Well that was nice of you." Kazuyoshi said. Tomoya smirked, "Yeah, really nice. Are you looking to win points with her family?" Tomoya teased. Ryouta only smirked at him, "I earned my points with them in my childhood days. I don't have anything to worry about." He stated.
"Check out this cool pose." Youhei said as he walked into the room posing with an electric guitar in his hand. It was red and black and it had a amplifier and strap to make it louder even outside. "But doesn't the fact of you not knowing how to play screw things up a bit?" Tomoya asked. Youhei shook his head, "Well the guy who owns it taught me some techniques. Even a beginner like me can do it no problem!" Youhei said.
"Hmmm, are you sure about that? Why don't you demonstrate then." Kazuyoshi said. "Yeah, hang on." Youhei said as he snapped the amplifier on to make sure the sound was working. "Here we go! Special guitar screech!" he exclaimed. He ran through the strings and made an unbearable sound. The boys held their ears trying to block their ears. "That's not playing, and also it's not a screech it's a scratch." Tomoya stated.
"If I showed you my skills now. You'll all start saying it." Youhei bragged. "Say what?" Ryouta asked. "You're so amazing Sunohara. But you should stop now and save some for your fans." Youhei replied. "What do you think? Truth is I'm really good. But you still see me as someone who can't play the guitar."
"It'd be nice if we did." Tomoya stated. 'Is it really okay to let him do this? I feel like he's going to get embarrassed.' Ryouta thought to himself. "Well then let's go!" Youhei exclaimed.
When they arrived at the spot to meet Yusuke Yoshino. Youhei played the guitar with his special Screech which made everyone's ears hurt once again. "Save the best for your fans!" Tomoya called out which made Ryouta laugh.
Yusuke had his eyes closed and shook his head "You guys… aren't really a band but a comedic duo, Huh? I'm sorry but I don't quite get the joke." Yusuke said, "Let me ask you something. You don't really know how to play do you?" He asked.
Tomoya smiled "Nope! This guy was bluffing the whole time" Tomoya stated. Yusuke sighed as he crossed his arms, "I figured that." He said. "Sorry about that I wanted to try." Youhei said. Yusuke sighed once more. "Let me see the guitar. As I promised yesterday, I'll play it for you" He stated.
Youhei's eyes sparkled as he handed him the guitar. Yusuke looked it over and then looked at Youhei. "Not that it matters. But this is a 20,000 yen mail-order guitar. Isn't it?" He asked. Youhei raised an eyebrow, "Not good enough?" He asked. Yusuke shook his head "No, it's fine." He stated.
He struck one string which echoed out "Huh? You're not really playing something are you? That didn't really sound like a song." Youhei informed. "Idiot! I'm tuning it." Yusuke said. Once he was finished he finally started playing a melody which made Ryouta nod his head. "I think I know what song he's playing." Ryouta stated. Tomoya smiled at Ryouta, "Give him a little sample Ryouta." He said. Yusuke raised an eyebrow wondering what he was getting ready to do. Ryouta then smiled and began singing.
I've been roaming around,
I was looking down at all I see
painted faces,
fill the places I can't reach
You know that I could use somebody...
you know that I could use somebody...
Someone like you
and all you know
and how you speak
countless lovers
undercover of the streets
You know that I could use somebody...
you know that I could use somebody...
Someone like you
As Yusuke stopped playing the guitar he looked at Ryouta and smiled, "Now that was talent. You have an amazing voice, so smooth and so relaxing." He stated. Kazuyoshi smiled in return, "Ryouta is the best in town from what I know so far." He stated.
"Thank you Mr. Yoshino, that's means a lot." He stated. Yusuke nodded and turned around as he was preparing to leave. "You should cherish that voice of yours, as I believe it will bring you to places you've never been before in the future. Keep up the good work." He said as he then began to walk away. "Thank you and I promise I'll keep at it." He said as she watched him leave. "Ryouta, how does it feel to get compliments from the legendary Yusuke Yoshino?" Youhei asked. Ryouta smiled as he kept his eyes on the former superstar, "Pretty damn good." He replied.
