Author's Note

When I started writing the following chapter I realized that I needed to do some tweaking to earlier portrayals of Luke and Leia. I have gone back and revised so the children are aged seven or eight instead of being in early childhood.

The strange wrinkled creature that had been ordered into the nursery was dozing quietly underneath the massive window. Moonlight casting sinister shadows on his leathery skin. The dark haired girl also slept. She had spent most of the evening demanding that she be brought home on the grounds that she was royalty. He knew better than to give too much away. Back home, if you gave too much away there was nothing to stop some bandit for coming for your family or your droids. So he remained silent. Watching, studying and praying that his aunt and uncle would find him before it was too late.

The door to the nursery creaked open and Luke immediately pulled the blankets tightly around him to give the appearance of sleep. He heard the soft footsteps cross the room and opened one eye to see a beautiful woman with long dark hair, richly dressed in a white dressing gown tucking the blankets around the girl who slept soundly in the bed beside his. He watched, entranced, as the woman turned and floated over to him. He stared at her. He said nothing but continued to watch.

"I know you must be frightened. I was too when I was first brought here. But my husband is a very kind man. He wants to help and above all else we want you to be returned home. But until then, know that you can trust us, and you can always talk to me." She smiled sweetly and patted him lightly on the head before rising and making her exit. He kept the woman's words near to his heart. Perhaps she was kind after all. Perhaps she was the one who would help him get home.
