Once we arrived at Hogwarts, I immediately excited the train. I slung my backpack higher over my shoulder and went over to a huge man carrying a sign that said, "First Years Over Here!" I met the eyes of a boy who was also heading over to the sign and shrugged. He grinned at me almost laughingly. He must have known this would happen.

I ran over to the man who said, "Hello everyone! My name is Hagrid. Follow me." I looked around for Iyve, and seeing her behind me, I grabbed her hand and pulled her with me.

"Everyone get into a boat. No more than four to a boat, no less than two," Hagrid explained to us. Iyve and I climbed into the nearest boat, along with the boy I had earlier seen, and another girl.

We spent the trip in silence, all of us just staring at the horizen.

"Here is your first view of Hogwarts!" Hagrid exclaimed excitedly while pointing to a large castle. I gasped in surprise. Hogwarts was beautiful, and it looked like one of the old Celtic castles that I had loved as a child.

Not long after our first glimpse of Hogwarts, we reached the docks. Hagrid then led our large group to a pair of massive doors that opened when we neared. Inside was a young woman with bright red hair.

"Come on first years! Over here! My name is Professor Karson, and I teach transfiguration. You are about to become sorted into one of four houses by a sorting hat. Those houses are Ravenclaw, Gryffindor, Slytherin and Hufflepuff. You will be able to gain and loose points for your house. Triumphs will give you points, while failures and breaking of rules will loose you points. At the end of the school year, the house with the most points will win the house cup. Once you have gotten sorted, please make your way to your respective house table, the place where you will eat for tonight. Now follow me," our new transfiguration teacher started to walk after she finished her speach.

"That sounded rehearsed," I told Iyve as we started walking to a large archway where a few hundred people sat. Iyve nodded her head in agreement. As we entered the room, which we learned was called the Great Hall, I saw a tall stool with an old hat on it. Once all of us had entered the room, the hat started to sing.

"I am the sorting hat, oh yes, I am,

I read your mind and find out what's your kind

Place you in a house where you will fit in

So that everyone is just like your kin

Ravanclaw for those smart ones,

the quick witted and sharp un's

if you think that you are bright,

Ravenclaw will be just right

Gryffindor for the ones who are brave at heart,

those Gryffindors with their mighty paws

accepting themselves, even with their flaws

Slytherin, those cunning chaps,

will get you twisted in their traps

for they are the snakes who rise up in the night

Hufflepuff, those kind old gals,

they take the rest

but those Hufflepuffs, all unafraid

are the kindest which makes them the best

so now you think about which house you want to be in,

for I, the sorting hat will put you with your kin."

I stood there a little shocked, as a hat singing wasn't one of the things I had ever seen before.

"Your names will be called alphabetically. Once you hear your name called, walk up to the sorting hat and place in on your head," Professor Karson told us, "First up will be Max Albert!" A tall boy with bright blue eyes walked up and pulled the hat onto his head. After just a few seconds, the hat called out, "GRYFFINDOR!" The table farthest to the right cheered, and Max took the hat off and ran to them. A bunch of people went, until it was Iyve's turn. I turned to her and gave her a thumb up before she ran up to the stool, jammed the hat on her head, and sat there. We waited, and waited, until after a few minutes, the hat called out, "RAVENCLAW!" I shot Iyve a smile, then patiently waited until it was my turn.

Once professor Karson called my name, I slowly walked up to the sorting hat. I picked it up, and gently placed it on my head.

"Hello there, Emily. Hmm, very brave, but you wouldn't do in Gryffindor. You're to smart to go there. Slytherin would do nicely though. Oh, but you want to be with your best friend in Ravenclaw? You would do extremely well there. Actually, Ravenclaw seems to be the best choice for you to go," and the hat opened it's mouth and bellowed, "RAVENCLAW!"

I pulled the sorting hat off my head and sprinted over to the table where Iyve, along with the rest of my house was cheering. Iyve scooted over and patted the open area next to her. I sat down, and waited for the last few people to get sorted. As soon as the sorting finished, a tall woman wearing emerald green robes stood up.

"Hello everyone, and welcome to another year at Hogwarts. I am professor McGonagall, the headmistress here. No speech today, just eat," the woman said.

I looked at the table, and suddenly the empty platters of food became full of every food you could imagine. I dished up a little chicken and some sort of purple vegetable before I spotted shrimp dumplings (ha gao). I picked up 5 of those, and ate up. Soon, I was full. I turned to talk to Iyve about Hogwarts, but suddenly my plate was clean and the platters previously full of normal food were now filled with desert. I further stuffed myself with ice cream and pie. It was a wonder that I was still skinny.

Sorry for the short chapter, especially since I have been gone for such a long time. Hope you enjoyed the chapter!
