Chapter 20

Riker POV

I pulled Alex even tighter when I heard the crash, making Alex cough for a second. My heart started racing.

"What was that!?" Rydel shouted.

"I'll go look," said Ellington nervously.

"Let me go with you," said Rocky.

I watched as they both walked slowly and carefully to the kitchen. Rocky slowly opened the door. I watched as they disappeared inside.

"It's ok. It was just a plate," called Ellington.

A few minutes later, Rocky walked back into the living room.

"What happened?" Asked Ross.

"I don't know. There's a shattered plate on the ground. We don't know how it happened though. It probably just fell. There are dishes stacked all over the place. On boxes, bins, everywhere…

Ellington came back into the living room once he had cleaned up the broken plate. Ross unpaused the movie.

*Thud

"What was that!?" Yelled Rydel.

"Something's going on," said Ross, terrified.

Ellington and Rocky got up again and walked to the kitchen. After a few minutes, they came back.

"What was it?" Asked Rydel.

"I don't know. Nothing seemed weird or anything. We couldn't find anything wrong," said Rocky.

"Well I don't like this. Turn off the movie. I think we should head to bed, lock our doors, and wait for the sun to come up," said Rydel.

"Can someone walk me home?" Asked Alex.

"Uh…"

"What?" Asked Alex.

"I'm not sure if that's safe," said Ellington.

"Yeah, I don't even know if the house is safe right now," Rocky whispered.

"Alex, you should stay the night. I think that would be the safest right now," said Rydel.

"Ok," said Alex.

Everyone got up and walked as a group upstairs. Alex went with Rydel to sleep in her room. I got in bed and saw Rocky looking at me strangely.

"Dude, what is it?" I asked.

"Nothing."

"Obviously it's something! You've been doing that all day!"

"Riker, are you ok?"

"Am I ok? Uh, yeah. Why?"

"Just making sure."

"Whatever."

Rydel POV

Alex and I had just walked into my room. I turned all the lights on, checking in my closet and anywhere someone could be hiding.

"Scared much?" Asked Alex.

"I'm just making sure no one's here. Aren't you scared?" I asked Alex.

"A little bit. But I mean, who would want to break into your house? I don't think anyone knows R5 is living here, and it's a small house tucked away in the Adirondack Mountains. If I was a robber, I would go for somewhere more populated, like the city maybe. Not some small house in the mountains."

"Well, that's a good point."

"On a completely unrelated topic, I love your room so far! I knew you loved hello kitty, but I didn't know you loved it this much! Your room is pink, you have hello kitty sheets, blankets, and pillows... Everywhere I look, it's hello kitty or pinkness!"

"You want to know the crazy part?" I asked.

"What?"

"I'm not even done yet. There's still boxes of stuff downstairs that go to my room. There's more pink and hello kitty still yet to come!"

"Wow. That's crazy! So, where am I sleeping?"

"You can sleep in my bed with me. It's a full size, so it should be big enough. Back in Colorado, my friends and I would have sleepovers and all squeeze into my bed. It was crazy, but fun," I said.

"Wow, that's cool."

Alex and I got into my bed. We talked a little bit more, and eventually fell asleep.

Riker POV

I had a hard time falling asleep, wondering what had caused the weird noises. My parents were away in Virginia, so we were all alone. Rocky's snoring wasn't helping either.

All of a sudden, I heard my door slowly creaking open. My heart started racing faster and faster. My face felt hot, and I was extremely scared. I tried to lay completely still, shaking a little, staring at the dark figure walking closer and closer to me…
