Chapter 30
Riker POV
Our argument had distracted me from driving. When I turned back to the road, I tried to slam on the breaks, but it was too late. I shut my eyes tight as we slammed into a car coming straight at us.
I slowly opened my eyes to see my shattered windshield, and the front of my car was smashed up against another. I was fine, but I looked over at Alex and realized she was unconscious. There was blood dripping down her face. I immediately took out my phone and dialed 911 with shaking hands. I could hear my voice trembling as I talked. My hands were still shaking as I tried to unbuckle my seat belt. A few seconds later, I heard sirens coming nearer and nearer.
Someone helped me get out of my car. My legs were shaking as I stood up, and tears were streaming down my face. I watched as Alex was loaded into the back of an ambulance. I was allowed to go with her, and we were taken to the nearest hospital.
They immediately took Alex into the emergency room. I was left to stay in the waiting room. A little while later, a police officer came in to talk to me. He told me the other person was ok, but they were drunk, and that's why they were driving on the wrong side of the road. I could barely concentrate on his words as he spoke. Even though the accident wasn't exactly my fault, a part of me felt like it was, because I didn't have my full attention on the road. And now, Alex was in the hospital.
Half an hour later, a nurse came out and asked if I wanted to see Alex. I immediately jumped up from my chair and followed her to Alex's room. She had needed stitches on her forehead, but other than that, she was fine.
"Alex!" I exclaimed, running over to her, and kneeling next to the bed.
"Riker!"
Alex grabbed my hands.
"I'm so sorry this happened," I said.
"Riker-"
"I should have been paying more attention."
"Riker-"
"Alex, I'm so sorry!"
"RIKER!"
"What?"
"They called my dad. He's coming here, now."
I got up, and sat on Alex's bed, holding her in my arms. We were both crying, and I only wished for time to freeze at that moment. There was no chance now, of her dad letting me see her anymore. I had gotten into an accident with his daughter! I couldn't understand how a man that could leave his daughter home alone for days, cared so much about what she did and who she dated.
We must have looked ridiculous to the nurses. My whole body was shaking, and I completely lost my breath. Alex had her arms around me so tight, and I could tell she had mentally given up on everything. When I looked at Alex, I could see her tears had made her makeup run down her face. I tried wiping it off, not very successful. Everything was just a mess.
10 minutes later, a nurse and Alex's dad came in the room. They looked at a bunch of papers and talked quietly on the other side of the room. Her dad kept looking up at us, but I couldn't tell what he was thinking. His face looked almost emotionless.
The nurse left, and he started walking over to us, which only made my heart race even faster.
"Are you Riker Lynch?" He asked.
"Yeah," I said as my voice cracked.
I must have looked incredibly pathetic to him.
"You're the one who's famous, right?" He asked.
"Yeah."
"I want to talk to you later. Alex, the nurse says we can leave now."
"Riker needs a ride home. He doesn't have a car anymore," said Alex.
"Fine."
Alex's dad walked in between Alex and me as we walked to his car. He had stuff in the front seat, so Alex and I sat in the back together. We got into the car, and started heading home. Alex looked over at me and wiped the tears that were still falling down my face. I saw something in her eyes that was different, but I didn't know what exactly. She almost looked like she wanted to kiss me, but I knew she wouldn't since her dad kept glancing at us in the mirror. She rested her head against my shoulder, and held onto one of my hands as we drove home in silence.
We eventually turned onto our road. My heart started racing as her dad parked the car. He got out, opened Alex's door, and walked her inside. I got out and ran back to my house, scared of what was yet to come. I ran upstairs, passing everyone in the living room, locked my door, and collapsed on my bed in tears.
"Woah, Riker, what's wrong!?" Ross asked.
I hadn't seen him when I came into the room. I turned to see him sitting up in bed staring at me intently, waiting for an answer.
"Riker…"
Ross got up, walked over to me, and forced me to sit up and give him a hug.
"I crashed my car today," I said, my voice shaking again.
"What!?"
"And Alex was with me. She had to get stitches."
"Is she ok?"
"Yeah, but after sneaking out, he dad texted her, and busted us. After we crashed, she was taken to the hospital, and they called her dad. He wants to talk to me tonight, and Alex knows he isn't going to let me see her again."
Someone knocked on my door. Rydel came in.
"Alex's dad is here. He wants you to come over to his house to talk."
I slowly got up and walked downstairs. Alex's dad and I silently walked over to his house. He led me out onto the porch and sat down. I knew it was coming now…
