Hello again readers! I just had to update this story again rather than one of my other ones first (its my favorite)
"Sango…I'm starting to worry, its been three months."
Sango looked down at Rin, "I know…me too but hey at least Inuyasha left his room after about a week….maybe they talked?"
Rin gave her a look that clearly stated she didn't believe that for a second, "Inuyasha hasn't been the same since…to be honest I'm kind of angry at Kagome."
Sango's lips formed a hard line, "He's fine, just a little more strict and a bit distant. We can't blame Kagome, if she was unhappy she deserved to leave Rin, the girl has already been through so much in life she deserved to be happy no matter what she's done and if her happiness wasn't with Inuyasha…"
She trailed off as her boss walked into the room with the rest of the top six, each of them taking a seat. Rin smiled, "Morning boss."
Inuyasha nodded, "morning Rin."
She frowned, hoping to get a smile out of him today, but he didn't do that anymore.
Not since Kagome.
She looked up at Sango who held her hand under the table, it was hard for both of them, Inuyasha had been a big part of their lives since they were very young, not only their boss but a brother and a friend. Miroku smiled weakly at the two girls as if noticing their distress, "sorry we all had to get up…Shippo says there was something important."
All eyes turned to a very nervous looking Shippo who cleared his throat, "Uh…I think the treaties been broken."
Inuyasha growled, "what?"
Rin gasped, "what did she do?"
Shippo shot Rin a look, "it wasn't her. It was us." He clicked his panel a few times and a video of war zone 66 showed up above the table, "this was taken last night..if Ka- uhm the leader of the Shikon rebels doesn't decide this is enough to break the treaty I worry it will be broken soon."
They all sat in silence watching the video of the still town until building began to explode and then there was screaming.
And then there was Kagome.
She was decked out in her rebel gear, carrying a child no more than five, a man beside her with a frail old woman in his arms.
Seconds later the mans throat was slit from behind, the Blood Hounds tattoo blaring against the attacker skin before being drenched in blood. Rage crossed Kagomes face as she attacked the Blood Hound and a battle broke out.
It seemed to go on forever, leaving a pile of bodies in its wake, along with some very angry rebels.
Shippo cleared his throat, "I cleaned up the video so we could get some sound.."
scratchy somewhat mechanical voices filled the room "Leader! it was the Blood Hounds."
Kagome kicked one of the bodies, "I know."
A woman tended to the old woman and child who Kagome had managed to protect through it all, "If you don't mind me saying leader…you have been here for a while now and we haven't gotten a word from the Blood Hounds. Is everything okay?"
Kagome nodded, "yeah."
The man from before looked at her shocked, "this is not okay! they broke the treaty leader! This means war."
The woman glared at him, "Our leader says everything is fine. they must have been acting on their own while attacking. Right leader?"
Kagome nodded, "yeah they were probably acting on their own."
The man quieted down, "why would they do that?"
After a stifling moment of silence Kagome shrugged, "I don't know…just don't attack any of them if you see them but be cautious."
He hesitated a moment before nodded, "Okay…leader maybe you should go back to the Blood Hound base, talk to em?"
Kagome visibly stiffened, "no."
The man looked at her confused, "but I've heard that you and the Blood Hound boss are…uhm cozy. Maybe if you talked to h-"
"I said no! We will deal with this as we always have. On our own."
The man and the woman glanced at one another before nodded, "of course leader."
The video cut off and Sango stared at Rin in shock.
No one there knew.
She glanced at Inuyasha who had stiffened in his chair, jaw ticking. It must of been hard for him to see her after all this time.
What had Kagome been telling her rebels? She lost herself in thought until the meeting ended. staying behind and grabbing Rins wrist before the other woman could leave. whispering to her harshly incase anyone was still nearby, "Rin. Start the helicopter"
Rin looked at her confused and shocked, "Why?"
"We're going to go see Kagome."
Rin didn't argue, she just nodded, "get my bag for me? I don't know how long we will need to be gone."
"Leader…Kagome, would you like to talk about why your here?"
Kagome looked up from her old beaten up desk and stopped playing with the small beaded bracelet in her hands, "no, Ayumi, Eri. I would not."
The girls looked at one another, "okay…but you haven't been yourself since you came back…your less energetic and people are starting to worry."
"They shouldn't worry. I'm heading out for today girls."
The looked at her like they wanted to say something more but kept quite as Kagome exited her office and the the school.
Making her way up to one of the rooftops the raven haired rebel looked over her home and back down to the bracelet she was still carrying, raising her arm to throw it away once and for all when someone caught onto her wrist, "Kagome! we have been looking everywhere for you!"
Slowly she turned, eyes widening at the sight of Sango and Rin, two heavy bags on their backs. Eyes narrowing she ripped her arm away and placed the bracelet in her pocket, "What? did he send you?"
They shook their heads, "no."
Rin smiled softly, "we missed you and wanted to see you! you're our best friend Kagome."
Kagome nodded slowly, "well you saw me. Go home."
They frowned, "no!"
She sighed, "what do you guys really want?"
Sango bit her lip, "well we do want to see you but we also heard you were attacked by some Blood Hounds…an attack that was never ordered so…we wanted to make sure everything was okay."
Rin nodded, "and that you were okay after you and the boss…"
Kagome closed her eyes, shutting off the memories of everything to do with Inuyasha.
She had gotten used to sleeping alone again.
She had.
She needed to.
She gave the two a small smile, "Sometimes I still wake up and expect to be in his arms back in the city. Is that what you came all this way to hear?"
The two girls looked at Kagome as a single tear slid down the rebels cheek.
Rin realized with sudden guilt that Kagome would be messed up too after all this. Since Kagome had been the one to break it off Rin has never considered that the rebel might be just as broken up about it as Inuyasha if not more, "No…its not..but Kagome if you feel that way why did you break it off?"
Kagome looked at the short woman, "I was suffocating. I needed to leave before I did."
Sango shifted on her feet, "so you'll be back soon?"
"No…I won't be back. Ever."
"Why not?!"
"I'm better out here."
Rin huffed, "but your best with Inuyasha."
Kagome went really quite, it was the first time she had heard his name in months.
Realizing her mistake Rin covered her mouth with her hands, "Sorry…he's the same way you know? Cant stand hearing your name. I think it hurts him…does it hurt you?"
Kagome didn't respond, "its going to rain soon, you two need to find shelter."
She started to walk off but stopped when the two started following.
She sighed, "your not going to leave me alone are you?"
"nope!"
Nodding she lead the two back to her old apartment.
Sango and Rin looked around and the dusty destroyed place before glancing at one another. Sango smiled, "so this is where you used to live?"
"and where I live now."
Rin nodded, "cool."
Kagome rolled her eyes knowing full well the two would be decorating the place if she would allow it, even when things were shit they wanted it to look like a friggin diamond. "How long do you plan on staying?
Sango shrugged, "not long."
"Does he know your here?"
The two looked at her guiltily.
"So just long enough for him to haul his ass down here to get you?"
Rin shifted on her feet, "sorry Kagome…We just want the two of you happy again. You love him and he loves you."
"I don't love him, I don't know what that was but I don't love him."
Sango rolled her eyes, "now your being ridiculous. you know all he does now is drink and work like some robot? He trashed his apartment and never comes down to eat with anyone anymore, he only trains alone now too. And…according to miroku all of your stuff is exactly where you left it, like your just going to walk back in and pick up your knives from the coffee table and start sharpening away while watching your favorite channel. God kagome its like he barley knows how to breath anymore and just looking at you I can tell you're no better. how long has it been since you have gotten a full nights sleep?"
Kagome shrugged, "he'll be fine. I'm fine I don't need sleep."
Rin practically screamed, "Everyone needs sleep! and he won't be fine! he hasn't been fine in three months!"
"If he was really that bad he would drag my ass back there himself."
Sango sighed, "Kagome…have you ever thought that maybe he thought that if he let you go, you would come back? that you just needed some time and you would come back and knock on his door because you love him. God Kagome he was so convinced for a while that you would just show up he was always back to his apartment the usual time you would be. And when he realized you weren't just going to be there its like he couldn't stand the place. Kagome I've never seen him so broken up and it hurts to-"
"Shut up." Kagome's voice broke through the air, "just…shut up. He's fine he's back to being an asshole who blows up buildings because one of his dogs was bitten by a rabid dog. He's fine and I'm fine."
Rin watched Kagome pace around the room before glancing at Sango, "Kagome..even if he was fine that wouldn't mean you are too. And he's not fine. Neither are you."
Kagome glared at her, "I'm fine. He's fine. He can easily find another woman."
Sango snapped, "HE DOESNT WANT ANOTHER WOMAN KAGOME HE WANTS YOU!"
Kagome glared, "I WOULD HAVE JUST DIED ONE DAY ANYWAYS!" She took a deep breath, "or did you forget? One day we all die and Inuyasha is exactly the same. he would have had to lose me one way or another."
"Is that what this is about?"
Kagome shook her head, "no. but its another good reason now that I think about it."
"Is not."
"Is too."
"He could have made you his mate and you guys would be okay."
"I know. But he didn't."
The two women froze and stared at Kagome, "you knew?"
Kagome nodded.
Sangos brows furrowed, "how? I didn't know you knew that much about hanyos or demons."
Kagome shifted on her feet, "I over heard miroku and him talking about it one day."
"is that why?"
Kagome shrugged, "not really. It bit knowing I wasn't going to you know get bit. But I could deal with that…I loved him right?"
Rin felt like she was going to cry, "I think you were he was just too stupid to make up his mind and bite you."
Kagome gave a water laugh, "thanks Rin but it really wasn't why…I just felt suffocated."
"that was seriously it?" Sango looked shocked.
"Yeah."
"Did you ever tell him."
"would he have ever let me leave for long periods of time."
the room was silent.
"exactly besides the gang leader and rebel leader? not a good mix."
Rin shrugged, "I thought you two were a great mix."
"this is for the best."
Sango eyes her wearily, "you sure?"
"yeah."
"We'll leave in a few days."
"'kay."
"you can cry now."
"I don't want to."
"why not?"
"that makes it real."
