"How do we know this wasn't written by someone else?" She said
"Because" Lance replied "the handwriting matched the rest of the paperwork"
"Oh" Clorine muttered
Lance sighed "All evidence seems to point towards what everyone assumes"
"But it doesn't make sense!" Clorine exclaimed
"What doesn't? That she killed him?" he asked, looking over at her
She shook her head "No. That she didn't return, that no one returned"
"Maybe she set a trap?" Lance suggested
Clorine sent him a doubtful look "how does about 20 people go missing without a trace?"
"Simple" He said walking over to a map that was on a wall "according to the journal, they were headed for this kingdom"
"So?" She asked joining him at the map
"Look" He pointed the Kingdom and then France "there are multiple routes they could have taken. Since no one knows which way they went its impossible to tell where they disappeared at."
"So your saying the evidence is out there, just not found?" Clorine asked
Lance nodded "after they didn't return word came from the kingdom, saying they never arrived. Search party's were sent out, but there's no way to have looked everywhere."
"I see" She said "How do you know all This? You can't be much older than me and I was barely one when it happened"
He smiled "I'm nineteen and I know all this because I asked and eavesdropped when I was old enough."
It was silent for a moment when Clorine spoke up
"I wonder if there was a survivor" She said
"Wouldn't they have returned?" He asked
She shook her head "not if they are the reason it happened. Picture it, there's a plan to wipe out the travelers, but something goes wrong and you barely escape. You can't go back home someone might find out the truth."
He nodded slowly, "That kinda makes sense"
Clorine's eyebrows furrowed "You said you were nineteen?"
"Yeah"
"Then why haven't you been crowned king, yet?" she asked
"Because after my father got the throne, he changed the age when the heir gets the throne to, Twenty. Unless France is desperate for a ruler which they're not." Lance answered
"That reminds me of something I've been meaning to ask" She said
"What?"
Clorine looked up at him "Why did they let Phillip out of the dungeon? How did they know he wouldn't kill you?"
"He wouldn't hurt me because I'm his ticket out of the Dungeon." He said
She quirked and eyebrow "meaning?"
"When they released Phillip they told him that if anything was to happen to me he wouldn't be given the honor to return to the dungeon"
"What does that mean?" She asked
"It means he wouldn't be returning anywhere" Lance answered before he took his finger and ran it sideways across his throat
"Oh"
"Yeah."
"Well, I better get back cleaning since this place won't do it itself, sadly" Clorine said walking over to the door
"See ya" Lance said
Clorine sent him a small wave before leaving
The next day Clorine was sweeping the floor deep in thought about everything. When she felt a hand grab her shoulder, she spun around and hit the person behind in the stomach with the broom.
"Andrews!" She exclaimed, looking at the man that now had his arms wrapped around his stomach "I'm so sorry!"
"Yeah, me too" He groaned "Just be glad I wasn't the king"
"No kidding" Clorine replied "did you need something?"
"Yes," he said, handing, her an envelope "I found this sitting on one of the tables, it has your name one it"
"Thank you," she said
He nodded "you are welcome. Well, I must be off. See you later and watch who you swing that thing at"
She nodded "I'll try."
After he left, she opened the Envelope and read it
Thought of somewhere else you can look.
Come to attic
Lance
She folded the letter and stuck it in her pocket "its my brake anyway" she said to herself
"Hi Lance" Clorine Greeted as she walked into the Attic
"Hi" he answered back
"I got the letter" She said
He smiled "Good. So I was thinking that there might be some clue in my mothers office"
"Your mom had an Office?" She asked before slightly hitting her forehead "Duh, Clorine she's the queen why wouldn't she have one?"
Lance laughed slightly "Do often talk to yourself?"
She shrugged "it changes. Anyway, where do we go to get to the office?"
"Not we, You" he answered, "You have to go outside to get there"
"And you don't go outside, for the good of the people" She said dully
"Right. Anyway My mother had three friends who lived in the maids, house, if I remember correctly, someone once mentioned her making her part of the room a office." he said
"Great! How do I get there?" Clorine asked, jumping up and down a little
He pointed out the window, "it's that three story building"
Her mouth fell open "No way maids got to sleep in there?! It's so pretty!"
Lance nodded "and here's the key. I swiped it while Phillip was out of the Office"
She took the key "Great I'm going over there right away!"
She said before running out the door
Lance watched Clorine make her way to the maids house, from the Attic window, he turned to look away when something caught his eye it was a shadow.
He Rubbed his eyes "Probably just seeing things again," he said to himself
He looked again, but the shadow was gone. It appeared again by the door of the building a minuet after Clorine went it.
"Its probably just my eyes playing tricks on me" He murmured
After about ten minuets Lance couldn't shake the feeling that something was very wrong
Clorine made her way to the building that had once been the Queen and her friends living quarters.
She couldn't shake the feeling that someone was watching her, but when she looked around or listen there was nothing
"Probably Lance watching from the Attic" she thought
Looking around, she ran to the door of the building and slipped in and made her way to the 3rd floor. There was a long hallway with a door at the end. She went through the door into a large room that had three beds with desk at the end of them, in the part of the room without a bed there was a wall with another door.
"That must be what Lance was talking about" Clorine said, walking over and opened the door, inside was a nice sized little room that had a desk, bookcase and chest. The room had no windows so she lit the torch that was on the wall.
Walking over to the desk and through inspecting it, only to find nothing but extra ink and quills. Next she searched the bookcase it only had maps and history books. She looked in between them, but still found nothing. Opening the chest, she found a place to put three swards two were missing, but one was there, the rest of the chest had cleaning and care supplies for the weapon along with a first aid kit.
Clorine lifted the Sword out and turned around.
How the stuff in the room was arranged the desk was almost right in front of the wall with the bookcase on one end and the chest beside it. Leaving a strip of clear space perfect for practicing basic solo sward play.
Clorine tried to mimic some moves she saw once saw, but she tripped slightly and the sword fell out of her hands and stuck into the floor standing up. She reached for it and stopped when she saw that there was a cache in the floor that was open
"That wasn't there before." Clorine said to herself, she pulled the sword out of the floor and the cache closed. She stuck the sword back down in the same spot, the cache opened
"Clever." she mumbled to herself before yawning
Reaching down into the cache, she pulled out a book with a lock on it.
Yawning, she inspected the lock, before pulling a pin out of her hair. After a couple of seconds she had the lock open.
Clorine didn't bother to sit down, she just stood there and flipped the book open
property of Corrine E. D'artagnon, Royalette.
A bright smile crossed her face "finally maybe I'll finally get some answer's!"
flipping through the pages she read this and that, before stopping on a page
"So it's true." she said "The Queen was a Musketeer"
Clorine's eyelids fluttered as she stifled a yawn "I need to get more sleep tonight"
Resuming her reading she flipped through more pages, she giggled a little when she came to a sketch of a little boy that had the name Benjamin written below it.
Her vision blurred and her head nodded a little, she yawned again "must stay awake," she mumbled before she passed out.
