"Clorine? Clorine."
She groaned slightly before her eyes fluttered open
Lance sighed in relief "your ok."
Sitting up, she looked around "what happened?"
"You passed out." He said before pointing to the torch "from lack of Oxygen."
"How?" she asked
"Well the only opening in this room is the door. When you closed it it cut off the oxygen supply. And the torch zapped the remaining oxygen." Lance said
She shook her head "but I didn't close the door. I left it open"
"It was closed when I got here," he replied
"Odd" Clorine said "Where the book I was reading?"
He raised an eyebrow "book? There was no book."
"But There was one! It was your mothers journal, I was reading it before I passed out." She exclaimed, standing up and looking around the room.
After ten minutes of thoroughly scanning the room the Journal was no where to be found.
"Weird." Clorine muttered
Lance sighed "is it me or does anything having to do with my parents, more complicated than it should be?"
She nodded "That's one of the things that makes me want to know why."
"Well, I should probably get back to my room." Lance said walking towards the door.
Nodding' she followed him "and I better get back cleaning."
For the rest of the day the missing book plagued Clorine.
She was dusting vases when she heard voices. Quietly she tiptoed down the hall and put her ear against the door.
"What were you thinking hiring a maid?" a deep male voice asked
"I was thinking that when Someone comes to visit a castle they expect to find it clean." A voice replied, she recognized it to be King Phillip
"A valid point" The Deep voice responded "what if she snoops around?"
"Please she's nothing but a mere peasant girl. Besides, there's nothing to find if she does" Phillip replied
"Very well. How did the meeting go?"
"Very well. I think it will have a ring on it by the end of the mouth" Phillip said.
Clorine shuddered you could feel a devious smirk coming from the other side of the door.
"Good. Everything is going as planned" the deep voice chuckled, but then stopped abruptly "What about Lance?"
"The Lad is not a problem" The King said
"Very well, I have business to tend to." The voice said
"As do I," Phillip said
Hearing footsteps Clorine quickly hide behind some thick drapery's. She watched as Phillip exited the room, but no one else did.
Weres the man he was talking to?
After standing there for Fifteen minuets Clorine came out of her hiding spot and cautiously walked into the room where the king came from it was empty
"There's not even a another door." she muttered "where the other man go?"
"Lance can I ask you something?" Clorine asked the next day
"Sure"
"Are you positive Phillip wouldn't hurt you?" she asked
"Yeah. Why?" he asked
She glanced at him before looking away "well, I over heard a weird conversation between him and someone else and they mentioned you possibly being a problem to something."
He shrugged "He was probably talking to someone from the city council."
"ok. They mentioned putting a ring on something, do you know what that means?" she asked
"Probably something to do with the kingdom," he answered
"You Don't know much about what happens do you?" she asked duly
Lance shook his head "No after I started going crazy, I pretty much shut myself out from the world"
She sighed, he is not much help. "Ok, I got a really strange question."
"ok."
"IS there a way for someone to exit a room besides the door?" She asked.
"The window" Lance answered
Her eyebrows furred "Too high up any other way?"
He looked at her strangely "well, there is another way, but it's impossible."
"Tell me" Clorine said
"There used to be secret passageways through the castle, but they have all be sealed off" he replied
His eyes sparkled "Secret passageways?"
"Yes and like I said they have been closed off" He said, grabbing a book nearby and handing it to her "There's a list of all of them with sketches"
"None of these work?" she asked, slipping thought the pages
"None they were made for the Kings Protection but after being used to many times by people trying to kill the king. They were closed off never to be walked through again" Lance explained
"Bummer" She muttered
"I know."
She walked towards the door "well, see ya later I have things to do"
He waved
Clorine exited the Attic and walked down the hall not knowing that in the Shadows a man was watching with a grim look on his face
