Disclaimer: Me: *looks around carefully* *slips forward slowly*
Katie: GOT YOU! COME OUT INTO THE OPEN AND CONFESS!
Travis: DO IT! DO IT!
Me: NOOOOOOOO! NEVER!
Katie: *holds out sword menacingly* DO. IT. NOW.
Me: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! *gets trapped by Travis*
Travis: Got ya! You're not getting away now! You shall tell the whole world!
Me: I DON'T OWN PJO OR HOO, ALRIGHT? NOW LET ME GO!
About: Katie's sick and Travis has to take care of her. Oh, no.
Time: Sometime after the Titan War. Percy is still in camp and everything is okay(for now). Well, except that it's flu season. Poor Travis.
Travis' POV:
I hate sick people. I barely ever catch colds, so I'm lucky.
Katie isn't that lucky. She gets sick a lot, and being her boyfriend, she expects me to look after her.
I hate having to treat sick people. Always coughing and sneezing, getting germs everywhere! It's disgusting!
Katie lay beside me on her bed, coughing up a lung. I shied away as much as I could without making it obvious.
"Travis, can you-" Katie broke off again, coughing ridiculously. She waved her hand towards the Kleenex box.
I reached out carefully and snagged a tissue. I tossed it to Katie and quickly moved away as she sneezed. It was like she was taking advantage of my help and make me sick!
No, I'm not being a fool! I'm just saying!
"It's not my fault, Travis," she grumbled, as if reading my mind. "If I get sick, I get sick. You don't have to stay if you don't want to!"
I jolted back. Katie could be really cranky when she was sick. Even more so than usual, I mean.
"What's with that look?" Katie glared at me, her voice cracking from her cold.
I scrambled back even more. "Ehh? Nothing! I just don't want to get sick!"
"Well, then get out!" she yelled.
I shot to my feet as she started coughing again. Katie glared at me as I stood there awkwardly. I scrambled out the door, grabbing my jacket, not wanting to feel the wrath of a sick and cranky Katie Gardner.
The wind was cold outside, but the snow wasn't falling, Mr. D had let the ground be covered in snow, but he refused to do anymore.
He said it would become a nuisance with so many people falling ill. He was right.
I wandered about aimlessly for a while, ending up in the strawberry fields.
I felt bad about Katie, but I really wasn't about to take a position that would make be sick if someone else(the Apollo kids) could take it.
I brushed off some snow on a nearby rock and settled down. It was seasons like this that I needed to be extra careful that I wasn't in danger of coming down with something.
I sighed, looking around. Only the border of the strawberry fields had been touched with the snow. The plants themselves were kept intact for funding.
The berries were ripe and red, although not most of the Demeter cabin was out working. In fact, I was one of the only people outside.
"Hello, Stoll. How ya doing?"
I looked up at the sound of a new voice breaking through my thoughts. Mark Hill from the Apollo cabin walked up beside me.
The two of us didn't really get along. He was a scrawny boy from the Apollo cabin who had a crush on my girlfriend.
We weren't the best of friends. In fact, we weren't really friends at all.
"What is Hill? Katie's sick, so she won't want to see you."
Mark shot me a dirty look. "I've already seen her. There's nothing I can do, it's just a cold. But she told me what happened."
I sat silent for a while. "Is there something I can do for you?"
Mark huffed. "I think she wants to see you. You are her boyfriend after all, aren't you?" he hit the point right where it stung.
I winced, but turned away. "It's none of your business, Hill."
Mark sighed. "Katie's a nice girl. She really doesn't deserve someone as selfish as you." he jabbed at me as he walked away.
I didn't want to admit it, but he was right. I was being selfish.
Don't give me that 'I told you so' look!
I looked around the fields, spotting a new row of beautiful blue flowers. A thought flew into my head as I looked at all the strawberries that would be overly ripe soon and the bright blue petals.
~TIME LAPSE
"Katie?"
I peeked around the door that separated the cabin councilor's bed from the rest of their siblings.
Katie was lying strewn on her bed, fast asleep. She looked adorable, with her brown hair let loose, a sure sign she was trying to relax.
Katie looked so young when she was sleeping, all her stress lines vanished and her tough, stern act gone.
I stood beside her for a while, just watching.
No, I'm not being creepy!
The basket of 'I'm sorry' presents hung from my hands. I was sure Katie would love it.
I leaned over and kissed her forehead gently. It was hot and sweaty, but I didn't mind just then.
"Sleep tight, Katie," I murmured.
~FEW WEEKS LATER
Katie's POV:
"Travis!"
I stepped into the infirmary. All the sick had been moved there so no one else would catch their colds.
Travis, ironically, had gotten ill from me, even after all his careful ways.
I had found the basket of flowers and strawberries on my table a few weeks ago with a note from Travis.
I had wanted to share it with him, but Travis had gotten sick and we hadn't been allowed to see everyone that was moved with him.
I had the feeling Mr. D and Chiron were being too protective, but they said that there were too many people getting.
I doubted that Mr. D cared, and I had the feeling that Chiron was behind all this precaution.
"Travis?"
I had gotten permission to see Travis since he had gotten a little better and wasn't coughing as much.
I laughed as I saw him. Travis was sprawled upside down on his bed, groaning and twisting around every now and then.
"How could you do this to me, Katie?" he moaned dramatically. The effect was ruined from his voice cracking and the obvious case that his nose was plugged.
I burst into a fit of giggles as he groaned again and rolled over. I held out my hand and showed him the chocolates I was carrying.
Travis perked up immediately. "Is that chocolate! Gimme!"
I pulled the treats back. "But you're sick. Hmm. I don't think you should have any..." I teased.
"No!" Travis cried, sitting up. "I'm perfectly fine!"
I laughed, snuggling up next to him. "Here," I broke off a piece and handed it to him. "Teasing you is so much fun!"
Travis didn't answer, scarfing down the sweets instead. "Oh, yum!" he cried. "I haven't had real food in forever! Fhwank fuo Fafie!"
I sighed, exasperated. "You're welcome Travis," I said pointedly.
Travis grinned at me and kissed my temple gently. "You're amazing."
I smiled to myself. Getting sick wasn't that bad.
Ooookay! This took longer than I expected.
Anyway, here. Hope you enjoy!
