The Final Fight Part 3

"What?" Murtagh asks.

You heard me, Finca growls. Tamli is sick and I'm responsible for it.

How did this occur? Thorn asks.

I . . . Our minds are linked unlike any other dragon and rider here and thus a surge of power has surged through me and passed into Tamli, a surge of power that only dragons can control, Finca sighs.

"I see," Murtagh says.

But not all is lost. I can attempt to recover the power surge but it may . . .

May what? Thorn questions.

It may harm Tamli. I could kill him because of this, Finca snarls angrily.

"Go head and try it," Murtagh commands.

And risk Tamli's death? Finca asks.

If it can be done to save him, then yes, Thorn says.

Fine, Finca grumbles as she closes her eyes and draws her head up beside Tamli's. Peace master, let me have your pain.

At first the pain is merely a gentle throb but as the minutes pass it turns into a searing, burning pain. After twenty minutes Finca breaks the connection and attempts to catch her breath.

"So? What happened?" Murtagh questions.

The pain . . . it tore through me like a fire, Finca stammers. I never knew his pain . . .

She suddenly pauses and Thorn and Murtagh look at her in worry.

I know what it is, she says after a moment. I know what causes his pain.

What is it? Thorn asks.

He was . . . is scared of fire, Finca says.

Thorn holds back a chuckle.

It's not funny! Finca roars. He has always had pyrophobia, or fear of fire. It now makes sense why he has been so quiet these last few days. He could have told me . . . he could have tried to explain his worries . . .

There was no time young dragon, Vanor's telepathic voice echoes out from the distance.

Good timing Vanor! Finca growls.

The male snorts in response.

I mean it! Finca snarls. You had to choose a time when I had just figured out why Tamli wasn't talking to me that much.

Pity I didn't choose sooner, Vanor hums as Finca growls in annoyance.

Murtagh, Thorn move Tamli out of the way. I am going to Uru'baen with or without Tamli! Finca growls as she addresses the two.

Of course, Thorn growls as he gently picks up Tamli and moves him farther away.

With that Finca closes her eyes.

Let this work, she thinks as a ring of Shadows rise up around her and spiral around her to give off the impression that she is not a white dragon but a gray dragon.
