Chapter Twenty-Four
Death Is Not The End
"When you're standing on the cross-roads
That you cannot comprehend
Just remember that death is not the end
And all your dreams have vanished
And you don't know what's up the bend
Just remember that death is not the end." - Bob Dylan
SEVEN YEARS LATER
"Okay buddy. A few more minutes then you can head up home and hit the hay, try and sleep off that sickness, okay champ?" A tiny head nodded against Harry's broad shoulder as Jamie tried to get himself comfortable. He had caught the flu and, as always, a sick Jamie was a clingy Jamie.
Harry chuckled and re-adjusted Jamie in his arms and tried to finish up his conversation with Ashlyn. Ashlyn was the nurse who had taken Jamie after he was born and washed him up. The Potter's and her were great friends and she was now his family doctor.
Her head came up to Jamie's head. "Get some rest, okay sweetie? You should feel better by tomorrow." The tiny head nodded against his neck and a hand came up and gripped his hair lightly.
"Yeah, yeah, I know sport." Ashlyn and him went there separate ways after saying goodbye. Harry contemplated using apparation but considering Jamie was sick, he went to the public flooed and flooed home.
As expected, no one was in the living room, all the lights were out and there wasn't anything in sight that shouldn't be there.
Harry stepped almost soundlessly up the stairs and walked into Jamie's room. Where it had once been a nursery, it was converted into a little boy's room, but still held the same colors to the flooring and walls. He laid Jamie on the bed and went to his closet to pick out his clothes.
So they went through another nightly routine, Jamie grouched while being awoke due to his father changing him into more comfortable clothes. Well, he could just spell them off of him and spell comfier ones on but he preferred to do it this way.
He slid Jamie into bed and tucked him in and kissed him on the forehead.
"I love you, champ." He laid another kiss on his forehead. He headed out of the room and went to the room across the hall. He opened the door and his eyes landed on his four year old daughter.
Her name was written over the west wall. Alexandria Marie Potter. It sparkled and glittered at the light hit it at the right angle. He checked to make sure she was tucked in and brushed her wild black curls from her head. Her chocolate brown eyes opened.
"Dada?" She had taken a habit of calling him, ever since she turned one.
"Yeah, sweetheart. Go back to sleep, I was just stopping to say goodnight." The four year old hummed.
"Mkay. G'night." She mumbled before tumbling back to sleep.
He chuckled and kissed her forehead like he did with James. He made his way quietly to their room and smiled fondly at the sight. Hermione had taken up most of the bed, with the covers twisted around her lightly.
He took off his jacket, shirt, jeans and slid into bed with just his boxers. His movements woke up Hermione. She slid over a bit and untangled herself from the covers and put some over Harry.
"S'rry." She mumbled. Her head snuggled deeper into the pillow beneath her head.
"It's fine, love."He said affectionately. His head trialled down and rubbed her stomach. It was rounded with their third and fourth child. Even though she was only five months along, her stomach bulged as if she was eight months pregnant.
Well, they were having twins. It was to be expected. They were both boys and they already decided on their names a month ago.
Their names would Zachariah Logan Potter and Emanuel Stephen Potter.
He still couldn't believe that it had been seven years since Jamie's birth and here he was, about to add two more people to the family.
He wouldn't trade these beautiful people for anything.
He kissed Hermione's forehead once more before settling down to sleep.
Ginny had her child about a month and a half after Hermione did.
It was a girl. They named her Heaven Roslyn Malfoy.
Ginny got married about six months after Hermione and Harry did.
Although, having leukemia had affected her, it was not passed onto her children.
Ginny had two more children, Kendall Leah Malfoy and Fred Gregory Malfoy before leukemia hit her again. This time, it was in her right arm, in the radius. They couldn't do a bone marrow transplant in enough time, and Ginny didn't make it. Neither did the child inside of her.
Draco was never the same. Sure, he had his children to help him get through everything but no other woman meant the same as Ginny did to him. He couldn't replace her and he wouldn't even try to.
He went to sleep, only after he had looked at Ginny and his wedding photo beside his bedside table and told her about his day. Sometimes, if he tried enough, it would feel as if Ginny had never left and was still with him. Sometimes, he could see her face behind his eyes. It gave him great peace. He slept without nightmares.
Finally the sorrow caught up to him, and he died in his sleep. He lasted a good two years without his love, and sorrow had managed to trap him in his sleep. He had awoken, to look down at his cold body and feel a hand on his shoulder. He looked up and saw Ginny, in a pure white dress and together, they went towards the light that promised a new beginning.
Astoria and Ron has still not adopted children by 2012, and when they had heard what happened to Draco, they rushed over immediately. When they had learned that they were going to put the children, the sobbing seven year old that was holding her distraught five year old sister and two year old brother, who barely understand what was going on. All he knew was that his father was not here anymore and that scared him.
Ron and Astoria immediately took the kids in, not just for themselves but for Ginny and Draco. They wouldn't have wanted their kids to grow up in an orphanage or away from another.
They ended up blood-adopting them, and with that came the changing process. Heaven still had her mother's red curly hair but her gray eyes went to a silvery-gray-blue color. Kendall's blonde hair took on a darker hue, almost brunette, but her bright blue eyes stayed. Fred's red, short hair turned into a strawberry blonde-ish color and freckled popped up over his nose. His eyes stayed silver though.
The three children came to know Ron and Astoria as 'Mama' and 'Papa', instead of 'Uncle Ronnie' and 'Aunt Tori'. They didn't call them Mommy and Daddy because their mommy and daddy were gone and no one would replace them.
It's been two years since that day, and today, Ron and Astoria came home with a baby in their arms. They had been told that that was their new brother. Tristan Michael Weasley. Their names weren't just Weasley though. Their names were Weasley-Malfoy.
On October 3rd, 2014 both Potters and Weasley's joined at Conterville's Park. Ever since that one day Hermione and Harry had brought them here to stop and rest, they wanted to come here for vacations or holidays.
The children ran off, except for the one year who stayed in his mother's eyes. His bright blue eyes took in everything and his dark, messy hair kept getting more and more ruffled on his head.
"I can't believe it's been two years."
"Yeah." They all muttered in agreement. There was no need for talked. Just silence. A little while later, after the adults had discussed what had been going on lately and scheduled a family dinner party for next month, called their children to them. Making sure that everyone was holding hands, Harry apparated them all to Malfoy Cemetery. All of them, even the children, stepped soundlessly besides their parents, holding their hand and their siblings too.
They stopped in front of the first headstone that came into view. Only two were in there right now.
Ginevra Molly "Ginny" Weasley-Malfoy
Born: August 11, 1981
Death: December 15th, 2010
A lover, fighter, daughter, mother, believer of true good. We will never forget you and your brave, heroic actions. May you find peace wherever you are.
We miss you.
A tear slid down Harry's face. True, Ginny and him had complications growing up but she was like his sister in the end and to see it marked so clearly that she was gone broke his heart. He didn't need to look up to know that everyone else was tearing up, he could just hear it. He moved on, and a footsteps echoed his.
Whoever followed him stopped exactly as he did. In front of the second tombstone.
Draconis Lucius 'Draco' Malfoy
Born: June 5, 1980
Death: October 3rd, 2012
He had the strength that he-who-shall-not-be-named didn't have. He made the right decisions, though people tried to turn him dark. He's a good man. A lover, fighter in the end, brother, father, son, master of true will. Your memory is forever with us. May you find peace and be with your beautiful wife.
We miss you.
An arm draped over his shoulder and he turned to look at Ron. He had tears in his eyes and he smiled a watery smile at him. They hugged for a moment before releasing each other. They slapped each others back, sniffled, then wiped their eyes. Jamie came forward.
"Daddy?" He asked quietly.
"Y-yeah sport?" Harry's voice cracked. Jamie held up a bouquet of wild flowers and Harry choked. They were the exact flowers that Ginny and Draco had at their wedding. Harry took the flowers and split them in half, laying half on Draco's grave then the other half on Ginny's.
He walked backwards and grasped Hermione's hand in his. They looked into each others eyes and smiled. He gripped her in a hug and looked up.
A gasp was muffled through his lips. About twenty yards ahead of him, he say a semi-transparent version of Ginny and Draco. They looked up at him and smiled before walking backwards and disappearing.
Harry's voice choked.
"Goodbye." He whispered into Hermione shoulder, a tear slipping out of his eye.
We miss you.
