Chapter 4: The bigger gun

"Morning, Harvey", Alexandra Leeds set her purse and coat on the sofa, but refused to sit down: First rule, it is easier to run when you stand up.

"I need you to find something for me, Alexandra"

"It's 5 in the morning and you called me over to find something for you? I though I'm here to talk about Cameron"

"To be exact, I need you to dig something up for me."

"You mean...the evidence..."

"I don't know what it is but I know where it should be now."

"Why do you think I know what the evidence is?"

"Because it is the only thing you know in this case, isn't it? Oh, don't give me that look, Alexandra. Your client wants to remain anonymous. You don't have any evidence except for 'the fact' that it somehow involves my past cases and my mentor burying the evidence. How do you think you even get the court order? Cameron may be a jerk but he is not an idiot. This whole thing is a set-up."

"You know this from the start but you only tell me this now because...?"

"I need an answer, not a question"

"Then the first thing I will do tomorrow is hand this case over to someone else since after all, seems like Cameron just gets bored and sue himself.", she sat down on the sofa and crossed her legs. Harvey signed but he knows that this was the reason he asked her, but some brain-less lawyer.

"He has something that belong to me."

"Your cute associate got caught?", Harvey glared at Alexandra. The woman seemed to really enjoy herself, "C'mon, you know why I let him eat lunch with us the other day, don't you?"

"Yes, indeed"

Alexandra could recognize that voice anywhere.

"Donna, sweet-..."

"Don't you even try, Alex", Donna ignore the guest and walked straight to Harvey's desk. "The preparation is done."

Harvey nodded. He gave Donna the signal to go first then turned to Alexandra who looked quite excited. After all, seeing both Harvey and Donna this worried was not a scene you could see everyday. Harvey handed Alexandra a small piece of paper with a typed sentence.

"Dig this up and meet me in my office tomorrow at noon."

"What are you and Donna going to do?"

"Break in his house."

Cameron lived in one of the most secure building in New York. Even though haft of the people in New York City owned Harvey or Donna a favor, they could only find one guy who could hack into the security system of Cameron's building. However, they soon found out that they needed more than just a hacker. To get inside the building, the tenant only needed a ID, but to get inside the apartment, you needed a personal pass-code from the owner. Luckily, there were two way to get inside Cameron's apartment: steal the pass-code or get invited; and Harvey was invited.

As long as Cameron entered the pass-code to let Harvey in, their friend would prevent the door from locking for about an hour. Then Harvey would try to get Cameron out of the building so Donna could sneak in with a fake-tenant ID to free Mike.

Or at least, that was the plan.

Harvey wasn't sure which one was more terrifying: the fact that his current boyfriend was in his ex's house or the fact that Mike was holding a gun. When Harvey tried to get Cameron "escorted" him for a morning cup of coffee, he expected Donna to free Mike and left the apartment exactly as it had been before, not like this.

"So how is your coffee, Cameron?", Miked asked but his eyes were on Harvey

"It was bad until now", Cameron smiled. He put the coffee aside and sat down on the sofa in front of Mike "Haven't Harvey taught you anything? When someone pulled out a gun..."

"We pull out a bigger one. Yeah, yeah, I know this. So here is my bigger gun... sir"

Mike turned his arm inward and pointed the gun directly to his head. A chill ran down his spine when the coldness of the gun touched his temple by Mike ignored it. Instead, he looked at Harvey, who was about to run toward him, with a calm face and nodded. Harvey stepped back. This was not a time to panic. He helped Mike as much as he can and now, it was time for his little puppy had a showdown.

"You know Cameron, the more famous you are, the bigger tomorrow headline will be", Mike said mockingly, "Body of young body found in trusted D.A apartment during his case. Who is that boy? A client? A friend or a young lover..."

"And the moment the young boy put that gun down, I will call my old friend, a police, to make sure he will spend his youth in prison for breaking into my house? That will be the headline I want to read."

"Oh, scary! I told you Cameron, you want to have him? Over my dead body...But well, before you call the police and I pull the trigger, why don't we talk to an old acquainted?", Mike picked up the phone he had been leaving on the coffee table.

"Hello Cameron", a woman voice playfully pierced through the tension in the room

"Donna?"

"Sound like you did not miss me, huh? No hurt feeling though" Both Mike and Harvey chuckled, "Let's talk business, Cameron. I found your evidence."

"My what?"

"You knife. The one you buried and let the murderer walked away. In the backyard of your old house in New Jersey."

"Are you doing drug now Donna? The murder weapon, a knife if you must, was found a few blocked away from the victim's..."

"Yes, a knife with victim's blood but its size was not matched the wound. No other weapon was found so the investigation team assumed that the wound is bigger because the victim tried to fight back."

"I have never been to New Jersey..."

"No, you haven't but you ex-wife did. After your divorce, she went back to her old house in New Jersey and lived there. My guess is that you paid her to get rip of your stuffs and she did. She burned most of the thing but when she saw the knife with so much blood on it, that girl knew that this is her secure packet. She kept it in her backyard until Alexandra convinced her yesterday to dig it up. Oh, but you can hear all from her in court next week anyway."

"THIS IS A FUCKING LIE"

"It can be, Cameron", Mike put the phone down, "Maybe we are lying. Maybe you ex-wife hasn't agreed to be in court yet. But when she reads about me on the news tomorrow, do you think she will agree? After all, you had lived and lied to her for ten years, you know her better than I do, right?"

Cameron did not answered to any of the questions. He looked at Harvey but his eyes went beyond his ex-lover, beyond the room to a deep sadness.

"Mike..", Harvey suddenly spoke up, "Can I talk to him for a second?"

Mike did not seem to want to answer any question either but he stood up and gave the gun to Harvey. He did all he can. Now the decision belong to Harvey only.

"I will be in my apartment", Mike said and stepped outside. Harvey smiled. His puppy was truly no longer little.

Since they parted, Harvey did not believe that one day he would see Cameron again for personal business, and not in a million chance he though would be like this. Harvey walked toward Cameron but he decided to sit in front of him instead of next to.

"Why did you leave me?", Cameron asked. He looked like he had aged ten more years when he looked at Harvey now. All the confident were gone. What left now was just a man, a lonely man desperate for love.

"I follow you because of your skills but I fall in love with you because of you sense of justice. Whenever I look at you in court, I can feel you passion runs through me. I was lost in your fire, Cameron. But then I realize that fire not only burned me blind but it also burned you to death."

"So that is my punishment? Burned to death by my own fire?"

"No, by your own lies."

The conversation fell into silent. Harvey knew there was nothing he could say more so he stood up and walked toward the door.

"How about that boy?", Cameron asked, "What will you do if one day his sense of justice change? Leave him as well?"

" I seriously doubt that", Harvey smiled gently, "And no. I don't think I can anymore"

Harvey walked outside of the building when his watch clicked 7.00am. He suddenly remembered there was still one more thing he had to do: call Donna

"It's about time!", Donna's voice did not sound liek Harvey will have a good day

"I had something to catch up with."

"Of course you do. How does sleeping sound like? Take a day off. I will make sure the firm will not bankrupt when you're not here."

"Thanks, Donna. You're the best. And also thanks for going along with that act. Mike's idea, right?"

"Uh huh. He should just be in a Broadway crew with the talent of coming up lines like that...Hey, Harvey?"

"Yes?"

"You know, he maybe the one you are looking for"

"No Donna. After today, I'm pretty sure he is the one I'm looking for"
