Mask'Charade, Chapter 33 BPOV

"Oh God." I mutter through my hands, while I take a few seconds to settle my nerves, before calling Edward's phone for the third time. He doesn't answer; he's hurt, and rightfully so. The look on his face when his memory came flooding back had been a mixture of astonishment, joy, and finally heartbreak. I caused that. I should've told him about the pregnancy, the minute we had our first discussion alone.

"He's fine. He'll be okay. He just needs time to process all of this, and then he'll come back," I try desperately to convince myself. "He has to."

My pep talk is far from successful, as I place another desperate call; to Edward's aunt this time. I fill her in on what's happened, and she admits she's spoken to him and will come over right away.

I wait for her impatiently, practically wearing a hole in my floor. There's a knock on my door, and I frown, glancing at the clock. I realize she wasn't downplaying it when she said 'right away.' I hurry to the door, sensing that she must've been at her own brownstone, when I called. I'm obviously surprised when I open and it's not her.

"James? W-what are you doing here?"

"I came to check on you. I feel it's a husband's duty, especially with you being pregnant and all."

He steps inside.

"I appreciate that, but our divorce will be finalized soon, James. There's no longer any need for husbandly diligence."

"And the baby? Should I just stop caring about him or her as well, Bella?"

I inhale heavily and take a seat on the sofa, burying my face in my hands. With everything that's transpired, I feel I need to tell him the truth about the baby. I know he was hoping this baby is his, and even though we're ending our marriage, I still don't want to hurt him.

"James, about the baby…."

I become distracted by a piece of paper sticking out from beneath my sofa. I lean over and pick it up to read.

"What about the baby? Is everything alright?"

It's like I barely hear him, as I take in the contents on the paper. My mouth falls open in shock, as I realize what I'm reading.

Oh my God!

"Bella?"

I'm nearly palpitating with anger, as I look up at him.

"You son of bitch!"

He frowns at my outburst.

"What? What's wrong with you?"

"What's wrong with me? What's wrong with you? I cannot believe this." I shove the paper in his face, and he takes it from me. Recognition immediately settles on his face, but then he tries to mask it.

"Bella, I can explain-"

"That is a signed consent for a vasectomy. What's to explain? You've known all along that you weren't the father of my child!"

"Bella, please, if you'd just give me a minute. I can clear this up."

"Don't bother. This is your signature. This just makes what I have to say easier, hell, even satisfying. This baby is Edward's, and we are going to live a long a happy life together, once I'm finally rid of you. Now, you have absolutely no reason to check up on me. Get out my house!"

Anger sets in on his face.

"You're making a colossal mistake. Cullen is all-wrong for you. He's an opportunist, and homewrecker. How could you want to be with a man like that?"

"I'll take a man like him over a lying, cheating bastard like you any day. Get out!" I shove him toward the door.

"Fine! I'll leave, but only because you're getting all worked up, and it's not good for the b-"

I explode with rage and slap his face.

"Don't you dare mention my baby ever again, you pathetic excuse-"

"You be careful of how you speak to me, Bella. You're still my wife, and you just might need me more than you think. Keep that in mind." He says, rubbing his now red cheek, glaring at me, before finally leaving.

Liz walks up, just as he's storming off and notices my state.

"Are you alright?" She asks concerned.

"Yeah, finally, I think I will be, especially when Edward comes back."

"I understand his memory has resurfaced, and he remembered about the baby?"

"Yes. God, he was so upset." I shake my head in despair.

"Yes, unfortunately I've been on the receiving end of his ire."

"What did he say?" I ask worriedly.

"He blames me and has every right to," she says sadly.

"This is so terrible. I'm so sorry, Liz."

"Please, don't be. The upside to this; is that he doesn't blame you. Yes, he was shocked at first, but when I talked to him, he was adamant about his feelings for you, Bella. He loves you, and I think that love is the one thing that's allowing him to keep everything together. I originally thought that if he found out about the baby, with all he was dealing with, especially D.I.D, he wouldn't be able to handle it. I was wrong, and if him banishing me from his life is my punishment, I'll accept it; if in the end, he gets to be happy with you." she says sincerely, and I believe her.

"He won't banish you from his life. He's just hurting right now. We will help him through this; through everything."

I take her hand in mine and squeeze it affectionately. She smiles, as a single tear streams down her face.

"Oh my God…." She gasps. "I'm going to be a great aunt!"

"Yes, you are." I laugh, as she gives me a huge hug.

Liz leaves, and promises to get Edward to return my calls. In the meantime, I need a distraction to take my mind off things for a while. I go to the restaurant to review job applications. Jake's there, when I arrive.

"Hey, I wasn't expecting you here today."

"Yeah, it wasn't in my plans to be here, but this paperwork isn't going to get done by itself, and I need the distraction, so…" I huff.

"Hiring process. Yikes. Applicants better watch out." He laughs.

"Well, I hired you, didn't I? It didn't go so bad."

"True, and to show you just how appreciative I am, I'm going to make you a fabulous breakfast…um lunch…" He checks his watch to be sure.

"Mmm. Something with cheese? It's an indulgence of mine." I plead.

"You got it. Um, I don't mean to overstep, but are you okay? You seem a little down."

"Nothing something with cheese won't fix." I smile reassuringly, and he laughs and hurries off to the kitchen.

I exhale, and check my phone for missed calls. There aren't any, so I try and focus on what I have to do, and pray everything is alright with Edward, and that he calls soon.

This will be the last Bpov, as the story has one more chapter and a epilogue. Both will be in Edward's pov. Thanks for reading.
