Chapter 5

"Kai! Can I sit here, Diana, my dear?" Judy Tate shooed Diana out of the church bench and sat down uninvited.

The music started, announcing the entry of the bride, Emily, with her father and Diana had to squeeze in with Mariah, Ray and baby Ella who immediately began to wail.

Diana made an apologetic face and cooed to baby Ella, "Shush, baby. Come to Aunty Diana."

Mariah handed her daughter to Diana. "There, there, don't cry! See, what a beautiful dress Emily is wearing." She lifted Ella so that the eleven month girl could look at the beautiful bride.

Ella shrieked and scratched Diana's face. Diana cried, "Ow!"

Ella now proceeded to try and crawl out of Diana's hold and jump to the bench in front of her. Ella's parents seemed happily oblivious to their little brat's activities. Diana was the brunt of Ella's scratches and punches and could hardly see Emily ascend the altar.

With a shriek of delight Ella reached out and gathered a handful of slate-coloured haired and pulled. "Ouch!" Kai jumped and looked around. His scowl softened as he looked at Ella and Diana.

Without a word, Kai took Ella from Diana. Diana smiled. And Ella, who had been creating quite a noise became silent as she looked at Uncle Kai's eyes.

"Kai, I hope you are paying attention…" Judy said, severely.

Kai sighed, "Yes."

"Yeah, where was I? Project Python. My company has prepared an X3-Y2—branched serum which we wanted to test on someone who is capable of-"

"And why do you think I will agree to such a thing?" enquired Kai coldly.

"But we are sure that it can lend superhuman properties-"

"Will you please shut up and let me listen to my friend's wedding vows or do you think your stupid little project is more important than that?

That made Judy shut up already but the clever scientist's brain was still working on how she could rope in Kai to try the serum on. True, the serum had been banned by the government but she knew that if the experiment worked nothing in the world could stop her from making millions. She would be better than all the scientists, the one who would be the most sought after, the one who would always be in news-

Judy's thoughts were stopped by everybody clapping and cheering as Kenny and Emily were declared husband and wife.

Kai handed the sleeping Ella to Ray as everybody began to move about. Pushing through the crowd, he tried to catch up with Tala. He had seen Tala's expression and knew that Tala was not okay.

Kai wanted to console his friend but knew that, at the same time, his friend needed space.

"He looks pretty bad, huh?" Diana asked, suddenly appearing by his side.

"Yeah. I wish I could do something," Kai answered, looking concerned.

"Shouldn't you try to talk to him?"

Kai nodded, "I should even though I know he'll be really hard to talk to."

"Wait, Kai!" Judy's voice made them turn around.

Kai groaned, "Not her again."

Judy looked at Kai, "I have a proposal for your company. This project could be really…"

Kai whispered to Diana, "Could you take care of Tala?"

Diana showed a thumbs up.

Kai smiled, "I love you." He bent to kiss her cheek.

"Ahem! I believe this is a business meeting," Judy scolded.

"Yes, yes. I am listening." Kai didn't bother correcting her that it was not a business meeting but a marriage but for Max's sake he listened.

I think this was a fast update seeing how packed college is nowadays :P I have been battling against time.
