Chapter 6
As soon as Tala had heard the crowd clapping and hooting for Kenny and Emily, he had swiftly got up and walked to the park where some drinks and delicacies were laid for the guests in a tent.
Ever since he had come here he hated everyone and everything. The hushed whispers and pitiful looks as people relayed the news of his divorce were driving him crazy. Nobody apart from Kai knew the whole details and he had strictly told Kai not to tell anybody else but rumors had spread far and wide. Ian, Bryan and Spencer knew bits and even though they sympathised with him he didn't want to see or talk to anyone.
Tala took a glass of strong vodka and moved towards the desolate end of the park as happy people started spilling out of the church to claim the refreshments
He had drunk a few sips and thought over Anna a hundred times when someone interrupted his thoughts, "Um, Tala?"
It was Kai's wife, Diana. He studied her from head to toe without replying. Diana Greene Hiwatari. Short, brown haired, green eyed and easy to talk to, Tala had quite liked her but now her wide smile was irritating him. What did she want? Offer sympathies?
Tala scowled, "What!?"
Diana seemed unfazed by his cold tone. Probably a side-effect of being Kai's wife.
"Why are you all alone?" she asked, scratching at her net sleeve.
"Because my wife left me for another man," Tala nearly shouted. "There! Happy now? Go. Run and tell everyone else about this spicy news."
Diana sighed, "Gossip Mag beat you to this news."
"What!?"
"Gossip Mag is a high-profile celebrity stalking magazine. I think they gave out your 'news' a week ago." Diana looked at Tala as he digested this news. "I'm sorry, Tala."
"Shut up."
Diana didn't say anything for some time. When Tala lifted his glass to his lips Diana muttered, "Alcohol consumption is bad for health."
Tala emptied his glass on the ground. When he had first met Diana at Kai's house, she had said the same thing and he and Anne had laughed, finding it funny. Diana, however, was serious and had forced them to give up drinking in front of her. Anna...
Diana continued talking even though she looked a bit uncomfortable, "Kai was worried about you but Judy caught him and started talking about some high and mighty stuff and he sent me instead. Honestly, I was a bit scared of confronting you."
Tala found himself smiling, "Why? Because I am a cyborg, a semi robot or something."
"No, silly. That's the part that makes you cool. It was your eyes that scared me."
"What's wrong with them?"
"I don't know. Why are they so light blue?"
"Dumb, Diana, dumb!" Tala rolled his eyes.
Diana laughed happy to have made Tala momentarily forget his loss. Throughout the wedding Kai and her had been worried about him. He needed to take his mind off his divorce. Something new, someone new? An idea forming in her head, she said, "Kai was wondering if you could come to our house. Just a team get-together thingy for a few days. Spencer, Bryan and Ian are coming too. It will be fun."
Tala said, "I'll think about it."
Diana knew he was lying but before she could press the matter further, Kai appeared. A huge smile covered her face as he approached them.
Kai gave her a glance as if to ask if Tala was alright. Diana shook her head slightly. Kai nodded.
"Well, see ya later, fellas," Diana waved her hand, wanting to give the guys some space.
When she was out of earshot, Tala asked, quizzically, "What did that Judy want?"
Kai relayed what had happened.
-Two day later, Central Jail, U.K.
Inspector Jacobs opened the prison cell door and Countess Keira stepped out.
Inspector Jacobs closed the door before other occupant could come out.
"My lady!" Luna cried through the bars.
Countess Keira walked on with Inspector Jacobs following in her wake.
Luna's voice was now begging, "Please, Countess, you promised we would be released."
Keira didn't stop walking but replied in her cold, hard voice, "I promised I would be released."
Luna cursed and cussed but Keira was gone from the cells.
At the desk a blonde man wearing Armani suit stood up to great the Countess. "Finally you were where you belonged and now, you are out," the man spoke with an accent.
"Shut up," replied the Countess.
The man smiled, knowing he had hit a nerve.
The Countess walked with him to a Chevrolet parked outside the jail. When the car had moved a distance, Keira finally seemed at ease.
The man beside her asked, "So, what are you going to do now that you are free?"
"Geoffrey," the Countess's voice was cold as she answered, "all the time I was there I had only one thing in mind. The shame that I suffered, my anger, my inability to procure the release papers due to the pressure applied by Hiwatari and Kon and I developed a new feeling to sustain myself. Revenge. It helped me when not even you could do anything."
Geoffrey frowned, "But I wasn't needed in person for your release and I doubt I could be any use in your revenge so why call me from another continent for this?"
The Countess smiled, "There are things one can know before they even happen to the outside world even when one is living in jail. Look out for the news tomorrow."
Hey there!
Well, I did say things were going to really start...and they are starting! The Countess (with her necklace of teeth from her previous three husbands) is back!
