I had been deprived the use of a laptop *sobs* But no fear, hear I am and here's the new chapter!

Chapter 16

Kai had been staring at the dark ceiling for an hour. Raising his arm he saw that it was fine minutes to twelve. Time to go. He got up as quietly as he could. Within seconds the bedroom door closed behind him.

Diana opened her eyes sleepily. She turned around to find the bed empty. She looked up to see the door closing. Kai must have gone to the bathroom, she thought and closed her eyes.

"Did anyone see you?" a low voice enquired Kai as Kai stepped outside the cottage.

"Yes," Kai replied turning to his right and finding Tala leaning against a tree. "Stop modelling and let's go."

"You stop smirking and let me see the map," Tala said.

They consulted the map once and made off into the forest, their dark clothes mingling with the shadows. They walked fast and soon they had reached Scarlet Crossing. The trees cleared away and they saw the road which usually led people to Mr. Granger's site.

"Don't tell me we are going to walk. My feet aren't even insured," Tala whispered.

"Quit being a drama queen and get on," Kai was pulling out a glistening bike from among the trees.

Tala whistled, "Is that what I think it is? Where did you get it? Can I ride?"

"No," came the short reply.

Tala sighed and got behind Kai, "I'm not going to put my arms around you. I'm not Diana."

Kai speeded up the bike while Tala continued to mumble and groan till they finally reached Penjames Chemicals. It was small factory at a reasonable amount of distance. The walled boundary was topped with spikes and wires. The only easy way to enter was the guard post.

"Just one guard? Its like they are inviting us," Tala smiled and threw a small can towards the guard. The guard looked towards the sound and started coughing as smoke started spilling from the small can.

Kai counted, "3…2…1 and good night!"

Sure enough the guard was now out cold. The men entered through the gate and Kai dragged the guard to his chair.

"Like old times huh?" Tala was really happy now.

"Yeah," Kai replied with a smile. "Okay, I take the front, you take the back. Try not to-"

"Kill anyone?" Tala nodded. "I remember the old instructions, Kai. You're not the only one with a heart of gold. See you in fifteen minutes!"

Kai opened the electric box and quickly cut the alarm system. He approached the main door and tried the handle. Locked, of course. He took out his lock-picking needles and after a few jiggles the door swung open. With a torch to guide him, Kai set to work. He checked the entries in the register and then sat down in front of the computer. The screen asked for a password.

Kai sighed and looked around, his gloved fingers drumming on the table. What could be the password? What if it was in Portugese? Kai shrugged. Time to use the USB drive.

Kai took it out and plugged it in. A window opened and a number of letters and numbers flashed through.

'Password Search Complete. Possible letters and numbers-

eelvgL4cenuirlr'

Kai frowned. Just one number? 4…4…4… He smiled '4ever'? Okay, what more? 'irl' caught his attention. Has to be 'girl'. What else? Llcenu. He looked around and his eyes fell on the notepad where the receptionist seemed to take less of messages and make more of heart doodles. Edward and Macy were written around thousand times and so was Mrs. Cullen.

Kai quickly typed in 'cullengirl4ever'.

The computer accepted the password and soon Kai was searching the entire company's database for anything connected with a certain Judy Tate or Project Python or chemical formulae with branches of X3-Y2-. He found nothing related to Judy or the project. Since it was a chemical factory results were obvious. He took photos of the chemical chains from his phone's camera and sent them to Kenny. After that Kai looked through the files and the employee information.

As far as Kai was concerned the place was clean. No underhand, illegal activity. Nothing that the government or the people could fear.

Fifteen minutes later Kai and Tala were at the gate. They didn't compare notes. They knew from experience that leaving the place was more important.

It was 3:25 a.m. when they reached their rooms. Tala wouldn't hear of staying up for more than a second and they went to their separate rooms. Kai tiptoed inside his room, taking extreme care not to wake up Diana.

Unknown to Kai, Diana lay awake wondering exactly what Kai had been doing. After Kai had left Diana had waited for half an hour. When no Kai returned Diana searched their suite only to find the front door unlocked.

A quick search of the other suite resulted in the discovery of Tala's disappearance. These two were up to something. Nobody just decides to go out in the middle of night wearing totally black clothes.

The only other person who knew about Kai and Tala's little walk in the dark was Ian. Ian was, however, one step ahead of Diana. He had followed them to Penjames Chemicals. He had had enough sense to come back before them and now he lay in his bed wondering what his friends had been doing. Whatever it was, it reminded him of their past and it was freaking him out.
