Chapter 18

"Oof, my back!" came Spencer's muffled cry. The weight on his back shifted and he got up rubbing his back. "What do you eat? You're so heavy."

"Me heavy? Have you seen yourself?"

Spencer's eyes widened when he heard the voice. It was a woman! He turned towards her and his mouth opened a little.

She had long golden-brown hair that was moving in rhythm to the slight breeze but what caught Spencer's attention were her eyes. They were a light brown, sparkling as light fell on her face.

"I-I-I…" Spencer was as usual speechless.

"A bird had fallen from its nest and I was just helping it up," the girl explained, averting her eyes under Spencer's gaze.

"O-oh, I s-see," Spencer managed to stammer. She had nice lips, he noticed.

The girl looked at him as if he was weird, "Why are you stammering? When you told me I'm heavy, you weren't stammering at all."

Spencer tried, "I-Its…a-a-a-"

"We'll try this later," the girl patted his arm and walked away.

Spencer was left rooted to the spot, cursing his brain for making him stammer in front of a girl he finally liked. Why was it like this? What happened to his speaking powers? True, he was never a great speaker. He didn't like talking and disliked people who talked but right now he wished the mystery girl had talked to him.

He was so enamoured by her that he half-wished she was a devoted fangirl wanting his attention. He would have let it go in this case or maybe it was because she wasn't wanting his attention that he liked her.

Spencer roamed around for a couple of hours and tried his best to forget her but sadly enough every flower, every leaf, every plant reminded him of her beauty. He tried to convince himself that he was wrong in liking a girl only for her looks. He hadn't even talked to her but his stupid heart wouldn't stop going back to her slightly pink cheeks, her sparkling eyes and soft lips.

He decided to go back and face the music. Maybe everybody's jibes would make him forget her.

Everybody was waiting for him in the drawing room (minus Ricardo who had been apologised to and escorted out after a cup of tea). Spencer braced himself for all the remarks on his sexuality.

Nothing happened.

Okay, fine, Ian snickered, Tala laughed and then covered it up by coughing, Kai looked emotionless, Bryan had a half-smile on his face while Jennifer was steadfastly looking at a particular spot on the table cloth. Diana and Hina were looking at each other but not talking.

Then, Bryan got up and walked to Spencer, "Where have you been? We would have had to look for you again if you hadn't come back in time."

"In time for?" Spencer dared to ask.

Bryan put a hand round his shoulder and took him to the porch, "We are sorry for what the girls did to you. It was wrong."

"Hmm," Spencer said.

"So we are taking you to a great restaurant in town. A little far from here so that you can forget all the bad memories and we can have dinner together. Like old times?"

Spencer was impressed. His friends were trying to be mature about this? He nodded in agreement. They walked back together and Spencer was happy. No jibes, no remarks, this was better than expected.

He wouldn't have been so happy if he had seen Bryan's wicked smile that he bestowed on Kai. Yes, Bryan and Kai had decided to act fast. A bruised ego means a hurt heart and hurt hearts are the easiest to break into. They had already asked a girl to come to the restaurant (with a little help from Ian).

Spencer may have had dreams of having dinner like the old times but something totally new was going to happen. This time, according to Kai and Bryan, they were going to win. They were already irritated that all their hard work in bringing together Ian and Giselle had come to nothing because the girls' team had brought in Hina. Well, Spencer would get a girlfriend by tonight and they would be the ones to help him get her.

And that's that! Loads of matchmaking, drama and heartbreaks (?) happening in the next chapter so be ready for it.
