Спарта
I hope you've been enjoying this story I really haven't been keeping up to date on it I hope I will be able to, it is the lowest story on my list of priorities but I am trying to keep it interesting although I don't know how that is going. I will try and get another chapter out while I am at home for Christmas break but I don't know how successful I will be, Anyway was always I don't own Metro but I do own Spartak.
I felt a sharp pain in my arm as the darkness blurred into light; I looked left and right trying to look around but all I could see was blur. As everything came into focus I spotted a large man pulling blood from my veins, the red blood filled the ampule on the syringe as it did I looked at the man who had absolute focus on his face. He pulled the needle out and open my blood to the air he then tipped a powder into the blood turning it an almost bright yellow.
He then turned away from me and looked a man talking to Khan well more shouting at him, "Sorry to interrupt but these two are both clear, Sir!" As the man stood talking to the other I looked at his epaulette and saw an old helmet it looked strange the type of things I saw in my mother's books when I was younger.
"Good, search them for weapons!" The other man ordered to the man who held the ampule. He reached over to Svetlana as she relinquished Khan's Tokarev but as he reached over to search me I didn't want to give up my Makarov but the man took it from me and ejected the magazine, emptied it and gave me back the gun with an empty magazine.
"Spasibo," I told him as I took the pistol and tucked it back under my coat. I looked at Khan and the man who he was arguing with.
"The base line here Khan is why the hell are you taking children through these tunnels?" The man asked Khan as he looked over to us.
"They needed someone to guide them through the tunnels to Polis," Khan replied as he followed the man over to Svetlana and me.
"Why are you going to Polis?" The man asked me dragging me to my feet and then lifting me off them. I panicked and looked at Khan, "Well?" The man shouted into my face. I just looked back at his face which had deep lines running along the curvature of his face, as he looked at me almost piercing my soul with his vision, he blue eyes looked back at me as if he was searching for something.
"I was told there was sanctuary there for me and my sister," I said nervously back at the man causing him to drop me. I climbed to me feet and dropped my step and raised my pistol even though it had no ammo.
"You will learn boy, that battles are won through strength of spirit not use of violence," the man told me as he brushed my pistol from my hands and smashed his fist into my face causing blood to run from my nose down to my lips.
"Poshel na khuy!" I shouted at the man as I swept his legs out from underneath him and climbed on top of his body and rained blows down on his head, I saw blood roll from his brow as I saw his blood on my hands I then stopped from a second however in the split second that I stopped for the man had me on my back and his knife to my throat. I looked up and saw Khan and Svetlana looking down at me and I submitted to the man.
"You have a lot to learn boy but you have potential," The man said as he climbed off me, helped me up and passed me my pistol.
"Sir we're needed back at Polis," Another man told the man who pinned me.
"Okay, let's move, Khan we will discuss this at Polis!" The man told everyone as he ordered the three men to get in positions to escort us. As the man who injected me stood at the front with an obviously makeshift assault rifle, as he turned to lead us into the tunnel he had a single word written "Спарта".
"Hey mister!" I shouted to him, he looked over his shoulder as we started to walk through the tunnel, "What does Спарта mean?" I asked him as I looked across his clothes looking for any sign of what it could mean.
"Спарта was a place where warriors were forged in ancient Greece, their power was great and their skills legendary," The man said as he scoured the tunnel with his torch looking into every crack where something could ever hide even if the creatures did not know they could hide there.
"Why do you check those places which are too small for creatures to hide in?" I then asked him after he gave such a vague answer about Спарта.
"When you have been in these tunnels for as long as I young one you will realise that if something is out to kill you it will kill you by any means," He replied as I heard something scuttle from the light, as the sound of the scratching subsided the man turned and looked at me. I only glanced at him but I spotted a small creature moving around in the shadows like it was stalking the lone man.
"Look out!" I shouted at him as the creature lunged towards him, but as I did the older man who pinned me raised his rifle, of the same design as the one which the man who had injected me, and fired straight at the creature with deadly accuracy causing the creature to collapse just shy of the man.
"Spasibo майор," The injector man told the older man.
"Look out next time капра́л," He replied as the man kicked the creature out of the way and continued to lead us into the dark of the tunnel.
"Where are we going?" Svetlana asked as she broke her silence, which I came to expect from her.
"To the library station it's the next stop only about a twenty minute walk from here," The Major told her. We made our way into a large atrium which had a set of tracks running in every direction. As we made our way through the atrium I spotted lights off into the right tunnel from the direction of Ploshchad Revolyutsi.
"Look over there," I told the Major as he had also spotted the lights.
"I see them child," He told me as we ducked in behind a set of columns and he turned off all the lights that we had. "Финикс!" The Major shouted out into the tunnel as the lights at the end of the tunnel turned off.
We waited for what seemed like hours but we only had to wait a few seconds for the sound of gunfire to shatter the silence, the rounds clattered all around us and voices echoed through the tunnels. "Major, we don't have the rounds for a sustained contact now," The third man in the group told us.
"Yebat'!" The Major swore at the top of his lungs which reverberated around the tunnel as the men stood around kicking off rounds towards the muzzle flashes, we didn't quite know the exact locations of the men that didn't stop the group I was with trying.
I heard the капра́л count through the last rounds in his clip as theMajor got on his shortwave walkie talkie and begin talking to someone at Polis, all I gathered from the short conversation was that there was no help on the way but they were trying to get onto nearby units for support.
"I'm out!" The капра́л told us all as the sound of gunfire slowly subsided, I started hearing footsteps coming closer and closer. I then heard a second bout of gunfire but this time it was over much faster.
"Финикс!" A voice rang out from the direction that the second bout of gunfire had come from.
"возвышенность!" The Major responded as he turned on the lights and started to walk towards the voice, I heard an electrical sound like a generator powering down and into the light emerged these two black clad goggle wearing men armed with silenced AK rifles like what was used in the old days by the great army, they didn't look like they were to be messed with the elite of this group of men.
"We heard you could use some assistance Major," The first man told the Major.
"Thank you, Старший лейтенант," He replied as the капра́л waked up to the second man and shook his hand hard, the two men stared at eachother for a second when they reached out and gave each other a massive bear hug.
"Brat, what are you doing here?" The капра́л asked.
"Saving your ass by the looks of it, what are you doing so close to Ploshchad Revolyutsi?" The other man replied.
"Escorting these children to Polis," The капра́л told them as the Major lead us off with the Старший лейтенант. I looked at the man who was the brother of the капра́л his black body armour and his goggles made him look like he was ready to go to war but his posture made him appear welcoming like he knew when to apply the violence of action a true warrior.
"So is this boy for selection?" The brother asked the Major.
"I do not know if he is ready for the order yet," He replied as we walked through the tunnels finally arriving at a military check point. Up until this point I had seen enough guards and soldiers to last me a life time but I no longer felt nervous, I felt I had matured across my time with Khan. I was no longer angry and full of hate the no more than two days it had taken for us to get to that point had changed me formed me into a man who I had wanted to become. As the guards let us past into what looked like a garrison of troops the men had a similar look to the Major and the капра́л.
"This place has not changed much since I left, Major, maybe you should consider redecorating?" Khan told the Major sarcastically as he was led off by the капра́л into an office where the Major was heading. The three other men led Svetlana and I off to a mess hall where there were about twenty soldiers all dressed in the same grey blue uniform like they were readied for war to come.
The man who I only knew as the third man in the group sat us down and collected food from the cook house, as he sat down next to us he smiled and took of his battered helmet and nodded the two other soldiers off. "So where have you come from?" He asked in a croaky voice as if he had had a sore throat for years, I looked over to Svetlana who was eating the bread the man had collected but as soon as he asked the question she held the bread to her mouth for a split second but then resumed eating, I then started eating too. "What are your names?" He then asked us obviously trying to get some information out of us but we both remained silent. "I'm not here to pressgang you into the order, that's not how it works anymore, we are just here to help you," He told us as he picked up a chunk of what looked like some sort of pork and took a mouthful.
"We are refugees," Svetlana told him as she placed the bread carefully down on the table.
"Refugees? From where?" He asked sounding puzzled.
"Novokuznetskaya," She then told him looking him straight in the eyes.
"That's impossible it's been underwater for months," he told us.
"It's still sinking and sealing all insides fates," I then added to the conversation.
"I must tell the Major," He then said as he stood up.
"I thought you weren't trying to get information from us?" Svetlana asked him sounding deadly serious.
"That was before I learned what you have told me," He replied as he walked out of the room towards the office, "You two come the Major will want to interview you."
"Yebat'," Svetlana whispered under her breathe as we followed the man into the hall again, I managed to scoop up the meat and bread as I left.
"Why did I open my big mouth?" Svetlana asked herself under her breath.
"Because you want people to know what happened to us, that we're not insignificant," I told her with a smile as I passed her some meat and bread, she smiled and ate it that smile gave me the first indication that I was getting my sister back.
As the door to the office creaked open the Major was talking to Khan not shouting anymore, "Major these children have important information."
"I know, мла́дший лейтена́нт, thank you," the Major looked at me and Svetlana, he walked slowly over to us and asked us, "Where will you stay now?"
"I don't know," I told him and Svetlana just shook her head.
"The boy can stay here as a recruit, the girl will be moved on to Hanza," the Major told the мла́дший лейтена́нт.
"da, ser," He replied as he lead me away my heart sank and my hearing dulled as I heard the blood curdling shouts and screams from Svetlana as I was led off like a man being given the death sentence. The screeching in my ears didn't stop as I was placed in a room with a set of bunk beds and two small desks. My world was once again torn asunder.
