Was Yesterday

Yo wuddup? I hope you've been enjoying this story so far I have enjoyed writing it, I should be posting a bit more frequently as I can't play sports at the moment because I'm an idiot and have broken my rib :/ but the good news is I can still continue to post on here . Anyways I hope you enjoy the chapter and as Always I don't own Metro but I do own my characters.

I looked back at Svetlana in pure shock, who kept her finger pointed straight at my face. I went to raise my arm to her but Millar snapped, "Soldier stand down!"

"Let the man greet his sister!" Khan snapped back at Millar who moved straight into my view.

"You bastard!" I shouted at Khan whilst lunging towards him however Levii held me back, I tried to draw my Makarov but I couldn't, Levii had already grabbed it from me. I looked down at my holster but it was empty, I looked up to see Levii pointing the gun straight at Khan's face.

"Explain yourself to this man!" Levii ordered to Khan who merely relaxed and looked calmly into the barrel of the gun, "Why did you lead him into becoming a Ranger? Against his will?"

"The boy who came here almost a year ago was just that a boy, arrogant, selfish and impatient, now look he's a man still just as impatient, just as arrogant and just as selfish clearly I was wrong about him," Khan replied causing Levii to cock my Makarov.

"You're wrong," I told him as he stood there while my legs crumpled beneath me.

"How? You still lung at the first chance and you are rash when under emotion," Khan patronised me.

"I can learn," I whispered to Khan under my breath.

"How? Child," He replied sounding intrigued.

"I can learn," I replied again, as I looked down at the concrete floor like a dog.

"How?" Khan asked again.

"I don't…. I don't know," I replied as I finally hit the floor.

"Get up you pathetic excuse for a Ranger," Millar shouted at me as he kicked me in the side causing me to roll over but I couldn't react I felt like I had been frozen.

"Leave the men with me," Khan told him as he stopped Millar from landing another blow on me. Levii lowered my pistol and picked me up off the ground, he then placed it into my own holster and continued standing at attention. I stood up trying to keep myself upright but Millar simply nodded towards Khan and Left the room. "Go to him," Khan nodded to Svetlana who flew across the room towards me. As she placed her hands around my neck I could smell the familiar smell of her jacket and the feeling of her hair felt exactly the same, it was a lot darker now however dark brown to be exact. She hugged me hard but I couldn't bring myself to return the hug, I was still in shock, but as the necklace that had come from my mother brushed my neck, I knew that she hadn't forgotten where we had come from.

"It's good to see you sister," I told her as I wrapped my arms around her back.

"It's good to see you to," She replied sounding as if she was welling up.

"Are you too finished?" Khan asked calmly.

"Yeah we're done," Svetlana replied as she let go of me and I did the same to her, my mother's gold necklace hung around her neck proudly.

"Anna, go back and see Millar, I think he'll have a job for you," Khan told her as he walked up to me and placed his hand on my shoulder, "Well done child," He told me as his grip tightened around my shoulder and forced me back into the attention position. Levii was still stood proudly although he'd breathed out now since Svetlana had left the room, Khan took three paces back from us and nodded us to stand at ease which he then did himself. "You have been selected for Spetsnaz, yes?" He asked us but Levii and I both remained silent, "Oh, permission to speak freely granted, I don't like that I even acknowledge myself as a ranger, let alone an officer," Khan chuckled to himself.

"Yes Khan, we have been selected for Spetsnaz training," I told him as Levii took a knee next to me.

"Good, maybe we can see if you truly have changed," Khan replied sounding rather over joyous that we had been chosen for yet more brutalisation.

"Excuse me, but what does the training involve?" Levii asked Khan as he corrected the knee pad he wore on his right knee.

"Absolutely none at all," Khan shot back ominously.

"How is that even possible?" I asked him as he walked over to the door and made sure no one was outside.

"Let me explain," He began as he pulled Millar's chair from under his desk and sat down, "There is no formal training, you will be put under the supervision of a superior who will guide you into the heart of running the more covert operations run by the Order needless to say these operations are very dangerous and will only be attempted by the best of the Rangers."

"So who's our supervisor?" Levii asked as he stood back up with his knee pad in his hand.

"I am," Khan told Levii and I just nodded in reply, "Do you have any questions?" Khan asked us as he passed me a Bastard and then passed a Kiparis to Levii.

"Why are you doing this?" I asked Khan as I brass checked the Bastard.

"Because you two have both been scorned by hate and I hope that I could enlighten you to what the naïve and the arrogant can't see," He replied mysteriously as Levii looked at the Kiparis and ejected the magazine to unveil that Khan had been busy with it and that it no longer fired a pistol round, he was now using the ranger standard 5.45mm.

"So what now?" I asked Khan as he walked towards the door.

"Go and spend the day with Anna from then on you two will be with me," he replied ominously as he opened the metal door, "Dismissed!" He ordered as Levii and I filed out into the organised chaos of the barracks at Polis. As we wandered down towards our billet, we walked through areas of the barracks that I had never seen before the officers' quarters I spotted Captain Denyamov eating alone in the mess with an AK rifle on the table. He looked up at me as I stood in the doorway.

"So Solovyov, I hear you're in Alpha now?" He asked as I still stood in the doorway.

"Yes sir, I am in training," I replied formally.

"Bah, cut the officer crap, you're Alpha boy, you don't talk to a fellow brother like that," He told me as he kicked a seat from out from under the table, as if to tell me to sit, "Eristov, leave us," Denyamov ordered to Levii who had taken my place in the doorway. Denyamov looked at me as I sat down, he placed his knife and fork in a parallel fashion before putting his hands together and elbows on the table as if to guard his food. "You hungry?" He asked me.

"No Sir..." I paused sighing as I had used the officer language again.

"Call me Mars," he told me as he rolled up his sleeves revealing a series of tattoos running the length of his forearms. The pictures depicted the story of Bodark, the men who became wolves. "So how are you finding Ranger life?" He then asked me with a grin on his face.

"It's good, well it's better than running from everything in the metro," I told him as he passed me a piece of paper across the table.

"Yes it is," He replied as I picked up the piece of paper it simply had a solid black eagle on it.

"What is this?" I asked him as I looked at the paper puzzled.

"That's your mark," He replied as he took his AK off the table and stood up.

"My mark?" I asked.

"Alpha doesn't use tags, we have the mark to ID each other that's yours," He replied as he walked out of the mess hall, "Go see Alexia in the market she'll get you sorted." As the door shut on the mess I looked at the paper and admired the craftsmanship on the mark. Eventually I left the room and went back into my billet where Levii was still waiting for me.

"Millar just stopped by," He told me as I dumped my Bastard on my bunk and then flopped down myself; I looked over to Levii who was holding onto a piece of paper which was exactly the same as mine.

"What's on yours?" I asked him as I pulled my piece of paper out of my trouser pocket.

He showed me his paper it had a bear on the front, "It's a bear I think but I can't really see," He said as I looked at the paper and the bear had a spear in its side which I couldn't really work out the meaning too.

"So you wanna go find Alexia?" I asked him as I stood up placing the Bastard's strap over my shoulder. Levii stood up nervously he followed just behind me I could hear the Kiparis banging off his chest rig.

We walked out into Polis station which was bristling with activity, Polis was a multi-storey station actually consisting of Biblioteka Imeni Lenina, Arbatskaya, Aleksandrovski Sad and Borovitskaya. It was a massive complex, our barracks were in Arbatskaya and the market was in Aleksandrovski Sad on the other side of the complex. It was poorly lit by light powered only by three steam powered generators the fires burnt in the vents so that the air within the stations would not become toxic but still the air was thick and very hard to breathe.

"How far is it to the market?" Levii asked as I looked around taking in the sights of the station it reminded me of Novokuznetskaya but it had very little crime as the Order cracked down on criminals very efficiently.

"The market is only about ten minutes from here," I told him as we continued walking through the station being offered tea and water by every woman in the station, I had no interest but Levii obviously wanted to stall as he kept excepting it all meaning the ten minute walk took about twenty minutes, when we eventually arrived at the market I didn't know who I was looking for so I just asked the woman behind the counter, "Where is Alexia?" She looked back at me with sharp eyes.

"Alpha?" She asked and then held out her hand but not to give us a hand shake. I nodded and just looked at her hand which was out stretched towards me, "Where are your marks?" She then asked sounding rather pissed off. I pulled out my piece of paper and showed her and then Levii did the same, "Solovyov and Eristov?" She asked us. We both nodded. "With me!" She ordered as a young girl took her place behind the counter and she led us away to a door just behind the counter but out of view from the street.

As we walked down a concrete set of stairs I heard buzzing sounds like something was vibrating, as we made it to the bottom of the stairs I spotted a large man in a chair who had no shirt on and had blood running from his side as a woman with a needle was etching in a pattern similar to the one I had been given on the paper.

When the woman had finished she wiped the blood away and left a black mark etched into the man, it was a set of swords crossed. As the man admired the woman's work in a mirror Levii sat in the blood stained chair. He then passed her the piece of paper and took off his chest rig and shirt exposing his well-formed body. The woman was obviously impressed. Pretty quickly the woman pressed the needle into Levii's check causing a mixture of black and red to ooze from his body, it took about two hours for the woman to complete the process by which time Levii had lost a lot of blood but he seemed okay as he looked at the mark in the mirror.

I then sat in the chair, I waited for the process to begin but first the woman changed the needle in the end of the tattoo gun. After the new needle was in place she placed it up against my skin and clicked it on, the feeling of the needle constantly puncturing my skin burned and I couldn't look down at the black oose that I knew would be seeping from my chest. The torture felt like it took days but it likely only took about the same amount of time as Levii's. As I peered into the mirror afterwards I could see how red my chest was and I turned to look at Levii while putting back on my shirt and chest rig.

"What now?" I asked him as we started to walk back up the stairs towards the market.

"I don't know, Khan said he would find us tomorrow, I suggest you go catch up with Svetlana," He told me as we made it out into the market, "We don't have long before ten so I'd find her fast." He told me as he wandered off into the market holding his chest.
