Chapter 24
"Answer my question," Ian said, his eyelids drooping slightly.
Diana rubbed her arm which had got caught by the corner of the table and winced, "Ian, I get that you're drunk but holding a knife to your throat is not funny."
"I'm dead serious, Diana," Ian looked at her. "Now, are you going to tell me the reason why you married Kai?"
Diana sighed, "Fine, just give me the knife."
"Was it because of the money? Or because he was good-looking? Did you like the house? Did you see a good future? Or was no one taking you? Or-?"
"Ian!" Diana cried. "Shut up!"
Ian smiled coldly, "Because I can't see any other reason why any girl would even think of marrying a broken guy like him."
"Kai's not broken," Diana said, angrily.
Ian pressed the knife closer to his throat, "Why?"
Diana stared at the drops of blood that appeared on his throat with worry and said, "I don't know why you need to know. It should be evident. I married him because I loved him. Still do and will always."
"How do you know that? How did you even know that you loved him? How do you know you love somebody?" Ian nearly screamed. "Does Kai love you?"
"Yeah!"
"How do you know that? How do you know that you didn't make a mistake in loving or for that matter, marrying him? How?"
"Ian, I didn't make a mistake. Kai's a good guy and we both love each other. We trust each other. Believe me, Ian, its alright to be confused. I didn't think there was such a thing as love before I met the guy. It took me sometime but I was proven wrong. Love does exist and when two people love each other, they know."
All this time Diana had been slowly walking towards Ian. Seeing that Ian's eyes were glazed over, she lightly took the knife from his grip. She had expected him to not let go but he didn't even realise.
"You should go to sleep, Ian," Diana whispered. "Hopefully, you'll be fine by morning." She was so going to ask Kai to keep an eye on the guy.
"Kai doesn't trust you."
He spoke in such a low voice that Diana nearly didn't hear it. Nearly but she did. She stopped in her tracks.
"Kai doesn't trust you," Ian repeated.
Diana turned around, "What made you think that?"
"If he did, he would have told why he and Tala need to sneak out now and then," Ian sat down beside the kitchen counter. "Doesn't that mean he doesn't really love you. He doesn't really care whether you worry about him or not. He doesn't trust you as much as he trusts Tala. What does-"
"Its okay," Diana lied.
"Let me finish!" Ian said.
Diana sat down unwillingly.
"See, that's what I am afraid of. Love. Its such a huge term and no amount of knowledge or money can tell you what it really means. Normal people, like you, they find out. They get to know what it means. Us? Kai, Tala, Bryan, Spencer and me? We can't. We've been told to never love. We've been taught to forget that such a word even exists. Love is for losers. Now, tell me, how can such guys love somebody? Tala's marriage is a great example of what's yours going to be or what's Bryan's going to be."
"What happened to Tala doesn't happen to everybody-" Diana tried but-
"I?" Ian smiled ignoring Diana's interruption, "I always knew this. So, I steered clear of it. I like a woman. I go out with her. I like variety because it doesn't bind me. Which was fine! Everything was fine until…until Giselle showed up. Now, she…she's different. Her face is imprinted in my memory. Her words ring in my head. I want to be with her. Not just once. Not just twice. But how do I know, how do I become sure that I won't stop lov-liking her? And that's why, I need to forget her. So that she forgets me. I can't just tell her that I love her today when I don't know if I will tomorrow. She doesn't deserve that."
Diana let out a breath and stared at the floor. God, Ian was one tangled mess. This was tough. She opened her mouth and then closed it.
Ian looked at her expectantly.
Diana looked at him and smiled, "But you do love her today."
Ian looked confused.
Diana continued to smile, "And I think if a guy can tell a girl, honestly, that he loves her today then that's great. Because unless you come to terms with the fact that you do love someone, even for a single day, how will you ever come to know if you do or do not tomorrow?"
Ian was still staring at Diana, open-mouthed now.
"I would say you take a chance. What do you have to lose?"
"My pride and self-love if she says she doesn't love me back," but Ian was laughing now, a kind of semi-crying-semi-laughing.
"Now, that you're not looking suicidal or insane, let's get your neck bandaged. You better get an anti-tetanus vaccination tomorrow."
"Oh, c'mon, Diana!"
After Ian's neck had been bandaged up (despite his protests) and he had been put to bed, Diana walked to the door but before she could touch the handle, it started twisting on its own.
The door swung open…
…and there stood Kai and Tala, dressed from head to toe in black.
This was so tough.
Why?
Because it was so emo.
Because my back is paining...all the time...as usual...
Because MY HORRIBLE END-SEMESTER EXAMS ARE COMING and I'm trying so hard to study. Should have studied the whole sem instead of at last :'(
The next update will be after 4th Dec...that's when my exams get over. Sorry sorry sorry! Because I have nothing more written. Even this was written right now so beware mistakes and errors must be many. Sorryyyyy!
However, I will update Talks and Texts (which by the way, is the Tala fic I promised but you all already knew that) :D Because I have a few chapters already typed.
I'm also very sorry if I'm not able to reply to pms/fb msgs. I love you all but because of my awful studies and the fact that this laptop is NOT just mine...I will get back to everyone asap!
